Re: No incentive
I still see a big benefit.
The best benefit is that you get to keep the phone. Why should someone who turns in a scratch and dent get the same value as someone who keeps their phone in mint condition? If you get a higher end phone, it will hold up for quite awhile.
Edge works well for those who get reimbursed from their employers. If I am on a two year contract, my employer still requires me ...
Re: People also forget that the carriers get screwed by fraud/non-bill pays
If a company needs 3 years of continued service to make a profit, they have a failing business model (aka sprint).
Considering a customer can get a new subsidized phone at 20 months, it wouldn't make sense to start pulling a profit a year later in the middle of that second subsidy.
Prepaid vs Postpaid - Oversimplification, but correct
The article does over simplify the phone subsidy argument, but it certainly is more complicated than slapping a $20.00 value on a phone subsidy. Quite frankly, I think its closer to $30.00.
While comparing prepaid prices to post paid prices seems like a good standard, there is a bigger picture. Prepaid simply does not have the same overhead and risk postpaid plans have. They typically do not have expensive retail stores to maintain, call centers ...
Re: This got a lot more complicated
It isn't about alternatives and business.
Its more like being in a crowded bar and the two ugliest chicks hitting on you. They believe the best chance they have of going home with someone is you. That is a real boost of self esteem.
Sprint buys a company or idea and runs it into the ground.
Dish buys a company and sucks every bit of life from it and its employees.
Both companies are maggots seeking out dying opportunities.
Re: Federal Child Care
There is a gray area that both sides tend to ignore. I am anti-big gov as the next guy, but the carriers also must step up and share the responsibility. Between mis-information and ignorant users, there is a huge gap that is left unfilled. I do not feel the FCC should regulate it, but if the carriers refuse, then they get what is coming for them.
We all know a system like this isn't implemented because it would ...
Frantic Steve Jobs Stays Up All Night Designing Apple Tablet
http://www.theonion.com/content/news_briefs/f rantic_steve_jobs_stays_up
CUPERTINO, CA—Claiming that he completely forgot about the much-hyped electronic device until the last minute, a frantic Steve Jobs reportedly stayed up all night Tuesday in a desperate effort to design Apple's new tablet computer. "Come on, Steve, just think—think, dammit—you're running out of time," the exhausted CEO said as he glued nine separate iPhones to the back of a plastic cafeteria tray. "Okay, yeah, this will work. This will definitely work. Just need to write 'tablet' on this ...
iPass
Another industry shattering device. This makes me want to go buy a segway, run around town with my iPad trying to chase an AT&T 3G signal.
iPass on this.
Re: Everyone just now noticed?
Although I knew authorized agents had their own contract, it had really just now dawned on me that many of these carriers tout that they only do contracts if you subsidize a new phone. Im curious at what the exact verbiage might be.
I do agree that if its all out in the open, its a fair practice, however, Big Brother will step in eventually and start regulating the industry further.
I completely understand a business wanting to recoup losses ...
Re: Four words....
Bingo!
I wonder if the agreement included VZW not using this data in their commercials. That alone would be much more effective than any of their other campaigns.
Re: V this AT&T that .....
way to go! Pin a CDMA deficiency on the carrier. Why not point out that VZW does not have sim chips.
What will be the excuse once VZW rolls out their LTE? In a year, VZW will likely have better LTE coverage than ATT's 3G coverage. Now that is laughable.
Re: why not sprint which is data roaming with verizon and 2nd largest
Actually, Mrcool is a bit more accurate than you are.
First, lets skip all the PRL editing/hacking or any other tricks that are beyond the average customers abilities. Its not supported by the carrier, so therefore its not a carrier option to tout.
Forcing roam does not override the PRL. MrCool misused the term native coverage, as that is a bit of an unfair assumption. The phone searches for all signals, and uses whichever one is the highest ...
Re: Will the FCC remove all bandwidth restrictions?
As I tell all the other political people when they like to compare the states to Europe .... we are NOT europe. We are not japan.
Go research the land mass and ratio of people and perhaps you will understand why Japan has higher internet speeds.
Re: Data caps
What ISP's have caps?
Years ago, people complained about downloading MP3's and the bandwidth it ate up. Now its movies and video streaming ... and its crappy quality. Netflix and such are talking about streaming true HD. The fact remains video streaming is here to stay and it will get much bigger. My ISP offers me a product; X amount of $$$ for unlimited use at xxx speeds. Thats like someone complaining you are ...
Data caps
Im curious by how much they will increase the allowed cap on LTE. I understand they can not offer unlimited, but they do need to allow different tiers.
Re: Very Disturbing
This is very interesting. I suspect that the stock holders have come to a conclusion that they can no longer compete and want out of the market.
Alltel and USC pretty much had the same phones, and now that Alltel is gone, the price of their equipment will rise. There is now no competition in roaming. Also with VZW implementing Friends and Family plan, that puts a dagger into any real impact free incoming has. And ...
Re: Domino Effect
I completely agree. Carriers should have left it at .10 outgoing and .02 incoming. Now they will have to sink thousands to create systems for their pay per usage.
I personally would love to see a CAL that requires carriers to give free incoming texts.
Re: Out of control!
Perhaps you should work on your reading comprehension skills before your critique my math skills.
If i choose to send 10 messages a month, then it is a fair assumption i will receive on average 10 messages back. That is $4. This doesn't include the messages that I do not want to receive ... such a text message alerts from my voice mail and mass forwarding of text message jokes/happy holiday messages or just general messages ...
Re: Out of control!
I have a problem paying for text messages I do not want to receive. As a very casual text messenger, I find it ridiculous to pay $6+ for 10 or so text messages a month. If they would offer a 1.99 or 2.99 package a month, i wouldn't complain.
The per usage charge is quickly becoming comparable to overage charges.
Re: Coverage of What verizon is purchasing.
Competition is limited to RamCell, VZW, Sprint, and AT&Turd. The coverage in NC is very spotty, so I do not foresee them allowing VZW to take both sides of the 800. Alltel has some 1900, but they do not have an active network open. Alltel loves their 800, so I wouldn't be surprised if they did pick it up.
I foresee USCC picking it up since they already have much of NC already and they do not ...
misunderstand of request
Right now, carriers prohibit users from using skype from any of their devices, including cellphones and computers. I believe skype wants customer's to be allowed to use skype while using high speed.
