...when these upgrade announcements come out they never mention the tri-state area (NY,NJ,CT). Isn't the Tri-state area one of the most densely populated areas in the US? Charlotte is pretty sparse compared to the other cities mentioned. I guess my question is: Why Charlotte? and not Phoenix, or Philadelphia which have higher populations?

I disagree with you. Using Apple as an example, (I don't feel like looking up the numbers for RIM but they're out there,) According to Businessweek, It costs $178.96 to build the iPhone 3GS, while the iPhone 3G costs $174.33. Assuming a (generous) profit margin of 60% that's $286.336 and $278.928 for the 3GS and 3G respectively. The $800 and $1000 price you're suggesting is gouging the customer. Competition between the Device makers would keep costs ...

By the time the Xperia X1 ships: 1. Android will be generally availble. 2. iPhone will have (likely) sold 10 million units. 3. Microsoft will start to take the wraps off of WM7. (A free upgrade for the Xperia might not happen, so don't get your hopes up.) The Panel UI is just a shell on top of WM6.1 Despite what SE wants everyone to believe, it's not a platform onto itself. But this is just "Bursting" with lawsuit goodness. At least they are upfront about it and mention it in their Contract terms. Yet, despite the suppossed "technical" reason, they still are descriminating against a paticular application of they network. This arguement will fall flat when it's proven that there are other "sanctioned" apps that have a similar usage pattern.

I agree with you, but unfortunately with the exception of the BB 8830, all those great phones you mentioned are GSM only. What are us Sprint users stuck with, the tired old Treo, 2 year old BB phones, and the biggest POS smart phone to ever hit the market, the Moto Q. There's your problem. Stop complaining and ditch your current provider for one that uses GSM.

Absolutely. Sprint and Verizon has to since they are the largest customers. Although if Broadcom's stay is granted, then they will have look at other Technologies if they want to stay in business. I would buy the unlocked/unbranded version if it supports Cingular's 3G frequencies. If I'm stuck on EDGE, well.. I'll have to try it first... We probably won't see Those EDGE Enhancements from Sony Ericsson for another 1-2 years at least. and even then, i think it requires an update to the phone.

If it's missing wifi, then there's no compelling reason to buy it from Cingular. I would hope that Nokia has this sense to not allow another exclusivity agreement like the one for the N75 and sell an unbranded/unlocked/wifi enabled version.

Um, this phone doesn't compare with the Sync or RAZR. The N75 is a smartphone which would allow you to install and run S60v3 Apps. The Sync or RAZR could not do that last time I checked. Given that the phone is late (was due Q4 last year) they should sell it for $150. but I doubt it will happen. $250 is iPhone territory to you? Are you serious?
