Unlocked Version
I think the unlocked version purchasable from HTC direct only works on AT&T and T-Mobile, so, GSM only.
Unfortunately, it seems like if we want the Verizon version, we're stuck with bloatware.
Re: Hope the M7 is coming
Yes, but my hope is that Verizon will push that update out. :?
Hope the M7 is coming
The M7 just came out from Verizon 19 months ago. Hopefully we'll get an update soon...
Oh sure...
Sure, let's release the rules on Friday.
More stall tactics. Rule it a utility already so the pouting and foot stomping can commence while the rest of us get on with our lives.
Re: Totally ridiculous...
Well, that's total nonsense. If you're under contract, then you are under a contract to pay for service for a given amount of time (including the part of the service bill which is paying back the cost of the phone). Why should I have to wait 24 months to use my phone with a different SIM when I'm on vacation in another country if I'm STILL PAYING MY BILL in my home country? If ...
Oh please...
"Verizon says this is to better help people understand when they are eligible for new device discounts."
Honestly ... what an absolutely gigantic load of crap.
Let me fix that:
Verizon says this is to better help people pay us for an extra four months to subsidize the same crappy phone.
I really wish Verizon didn't have the best signal where I live.
Re: Thanks.
Your analogy doesn't make any sense at all and if anything argues the idea that prepaid plans are better than monthly plans at dealing with overages.
Your car is essentially a prepaid plan letting you buy enough to last you a rough number of miles. You don't drive 3000 miles and then pull into the gas station to pay for the miles you just drove.
This idea is LONG overdue. It would be nice if ...
How about for the Blackberry?
Wasn't there something about Skype for the Blackberry coming out, oh, I don't know, like 7 months ago....? All kinds of great promises...

Not sure I get this ...
While I'm all for some oversight of some of the nonsense that wireless providers like to pull out of their butts to rack up more charges on their customers, I have to say I don't really see the problem with an increased ETF on a higher priced phone. What they *should* do, in my opinion (for what's its worth), is prorate the ETF based on the markdown provided on the phone for going under contract.
So, for the ...
Re: IMHO the US wireless industry..
Sure they can handle that. The subsidizing made sense when the wireless industry was in its infancy. Got people out there to try it and get hooked on having a cell phone. Now anyone who would want a cell phone has one. The subsidizing really isn't necessary anymore. Just stick to the business of selling service.
Re: So, with the update ... is it better?
Thanks. The information is appreciated. I'll keep an eye on crackberry.com too to see how it's doing in the coming weeks.
So, with the update ... is it better?
I came here hoping to read the answer to that question, but managed to only find 30+ posts of a pissing contest over "they should never have released it" / "serves you right for not waiting" / "my cell phone company is better than your cell phone company".
So, not really caring about any of all that whining and dirt kicking ... can someone say what the fix provided? Is the phone better now? Are there ...
Re: Does this mean an end to Google SMS?
Google SMS lets you make Google queries via text messaging. You send a text message to 46645 (GOOGL) ... something like "Pizza, Boston, MA" and it sends you back an SMS with places that sell pizza in Boston. You can also use it for white page/yellow page lookup and other types of searches ...
Details here:

But, yes, I would think then that Google will get charged to respond to these requests, which would really suck if ...
Re: If in-flight calling is outlawed...
Courage doesn't matter. If you get some a-hole who sits there and ignores you (which they will), what good is turning around and telling the guy to stop being so loud.
For me, they can't pass this law through quick enough. There are too many self-important a-holes out there that think they deserve to do what they want, where they want, and couldn't care less about the people around them.
Re: Good to know
True, but once it comes out I'm sure it won't be too long before you could get the GSM side unlocked and then use a local overseas SIM card which would provide much better rates.
Re: CINGULAR JUST PLAIN SUCKS
Okay ... deep breath ... this is about 4th thread from years ago that some jackass decided to pull to the top of the list today. Time to starting checking those dates before replying.
