Re: Warning to Potential New Verizon Customers
Got news, I work in Nevada. I have Verizon. Guess who doesn't have a tower near my work area.
Where is Cingular now?
I moved to Idaho. I can't find a Cingular store anywhere so I'll have to let my contract die. Funny thing is that Cingular runs adds in Idaho every day- but where are they?
Okay, what's up?
:D, On the Cingular forum there is a surprising number of folks boasting about the wonders of VZW. Often they try to take over and change the forum into another VZW base. I do not see those users listed here. What is up with that? Is this not the post to boast about VZW in? :?
Re: Merger or IPO
Thanks for the link, but what does this have to do with the merger? I realize all VZW reps believe that their company is the best- hands down- and they have a few good points they bring across. But GSM is a different type of service than CDMA and has a few features that they can boast of as well.
As a CDMA provider VZW may be the best, but what does that claim have to do with ...
Re: T-MOBILE?
Yes, any GSM outfit claims it can hook up with anyone else- so what? If they don't have an agreement with the GSM provider in that area than either no hook up occurs or you pay up the hilt.
In the past T-Mobile has been generous about unlocking their cell phones, for their customers. AT&T has never been that user friendly. So you can, technically speaking, put the competitor's sim chip in your phone and it will ...
Re: Attn:dasiygirl2267
Only the long run will show us any results. If we are to go by the first day's activities I would have to say that Verizon and Nextel are the winners with T-Mobile playing second fiddle and AT&T left eating dust with Cingular.
This is like watching a horse race. I do not think that anyone has any questions about Verizon being favored to win. GSM was prematurely forced on the public.
There is ...
Re: Merger?
Yep, mergers are not monopolies. Both Cingular and AT&T stand to loose ground over LNP issues but there would be a strong untied front possible. There is, however, one question.
What if the merger is actually in reverse? For Cingular customers to suddenly be saddled with AT&T finance policies would really suck. Cingular's contract renewal gave it an edge over AT&T. If they become AT&T then they will loose customers.
Re: SHOULD I BELIEVE THEM
This depends on if the area you are in is prepared to even utilize that version of search technology. CDMA is better at being being found, with GSM running in second place. TDMA comes with a disclaimer that it's not always going to work.
On the 405 loop I have no problems, though sometimes the 911 operator will ask for descriptions of the area I am near, this helps them clarify the placement. GPS is ...
Re: Attn: ATTWS Employees, MUST READ!
Yeah, but this a nightmare. LNP will demand a very high number of CSR workers. This is the wrong time for AT&T to be cutting back- it's suicidal, unless that's the plan.
Re: Cingular Merger
Funny, no one is saying anything about the fact that AT&T is downsizing. In the face of LNP they are firing thousands of employees. While it may give them a temporary profit margin increase they are going all those employees to make LNP a smooth for the expected six percent increase they may see. My math seems a bit bad here. Let's see, a ten percent cutback of employees in the face of a six percent ...
Re: which is better? Verizon, ATT or Cingular, also number portability
Wow! This seems have turned into a spat of Verizon versus Sprint. While both sides of this battle continue to claim supremacy I will opt to sit it out and wait. VZW might end up with more customers through portable numbers but the size of the population being served is not a valid measure of which is literally the best- only which is the most popular.
PS. Not too long ago customers were stating that Verizon ...
Re: Stop Limiting LNP on Nov.24th to Cell Phones
Something like this is the current buzz on Cable TV news channels. On the positive side, people may soon be able to use just one phone number for both land line and wireless phones.
Some land line providers are fighting this concept. They see it as a major loss of funding and are threatening legal action to try and prevent it. Yet this is a good answer to the growing problem of wireless carriers running out ...
How is the spectrum split up?
We have a lot of carriers out there with a lot of licenses. So how do they keep it all sorted out? What's the ins and outs of this swath stuff?
In an interesting article in rcrnews.com Nextel tried to claim, among other things, that Cingular was not in compliance in Maryland over the Public Safety issues. I thought GSM and iDEM were two different balls of wax. So what is the real story ...
Re: 850 downfall
Indeed, AT&T announced EDGE before Cingular did. The problem is that EDGE is not yet sufficiently launched for GSM phones. From my understanding of EDGE- AT&T first launched EDGE for their TDMA phones.
Before getting excited, or annoyed, regarding EDGE would it not be better to wait until EDGE is fully launched on all GSM systems? Until then folks who want EDGE will just keep getting annoyed about their phone performances.
Re: Number Portability....Not what it seems...
CDMA isn't everywhere, but like GSM it is still growing in coverage. The problem for GSM is that CDMA is in far more places than GSM is. TDMA is currently in second place to CDMA.
Today I had a chance to compare three phones. I had a Nextel, Cingular and AT&T phone. The iDEM did not get any better reception than the GSM phone, yet the TDMA got full strength in an enclosed area. ...
Re: Number portability
Hi Vzw girl. I got my information from an article on rcrnews.com. The contention is not so much that VZW is not ready for LPN but that it is currently only about 50 percent ready (which is far more ready than a few other outfits) for all that LPN entails. It was an article. I posted this when the article was on top of the rcr news bundle. You will need to read their article ...
Re: 850 downfall
Interesting fuss with Nextel, considering that PS used Nextel almost exclusively until just recently, for their cell phone carrier. But they tried to slap the frequency restriction on all the cell phone companies- not just Nextel. This ploy failed.
I will beg to differ. The 800-850 issue is not simply a swath of spectrum but are very specifically assigned frequencies within a given band. Those specific frequencies are assigned to specific users. My knowledge ...
Re: 850 downfall
Equal in quality, just different band widths and spectrum issues. On one hand it is too bad that that 800 and 900 are not useful as a continuous spread, it would save a lot of money for international travelers.
On the other hand, in Urban America, businesses are largely in the 900 spectrum and they pay to keep it that way. They don't want the public running possible interference with business calls and transmissions. ...
Re: Cingular and GSM
Not exactly. The 800 starts at. The 850 starts around 845 and up. Both are in a small band range which miss each other. Some of the earlier confusion was due to postings of the 850 as a 900- which it is not. Comes close to it but just not the same.
Recently Police outfits started crying foul. With celluar now going into the 850 range we are coming closer to public safety ranges, ...
Re: Number portability
Now the bad news. From rcrnews.com comes the rumor that although Verizon expects to reap the largest number of increases from LPN, the reality is that they are 50 % ready. NO ONE IS READY!
Why are so many GSM providers loosing customers to VZW?
All the VZW adds running every day create an image of being able to work absolutely every where (Something a lot of customers don't agree with), and people are willing to buy ...
Re: Number portability
LNP is being fought tooth and nail. Lots of outfits want to either delay it or deny it. They are scared of the turn over costs.
Will T-Mobile satisfy your needs? Bo they actually have coverage and agreements where you travel? Give them a test drive before switching.
I don't know anything about the phone you want but most carriers only activate phones they carry. New contracts usually qualify for free or reduced priced ...
Re: 850 downfall
While I can agree that many people want more features what does that have to do with 850? So what if it's not good for international roaming- most cell phone users here don't go past American borders. Isn't 850 another feature- an option that many carries do not provide? This is hardly a downfall or short coming.
I would like to see reasonably price quad phones as a standard product. 850/900-1800/1900 but the problem ...
Re: Cingular GSM coverage map....its growing!!!
Looks great. Does this relate to reality? There are still a lot of areas that have TDMA but not GSM coverage- areas I travel in.
Re: Cingular and GSM
As I understand it there were plans to make the 850 into the voice channel and the 1900 into the data channel. It seems that data stands a better transmission at the 1.9 MHz. I haven't kept track of that idea so I can't provide a link. In some of the central eastern areas only 850 MHZ licenses were available so those areas will not be useful for 1900 MHz.
A lot of people are ...
Re: Will Cingular ever have free nights and weekends??
I have not run out of time yet and I have three people talking, one rather into the wee hours. Do you see a need for this for this to happen?
Re: Offical Nokia 6385 Forum
Official according Nokia? Or do you want to have a thread over this phone?
Re: Is GAIT being used much?
There are more GAIT phones being used in the Eastern states than anywhere else, this is because of the prevalence of mom and pop outfits that run on TDMA.
There are certainly more GAIT and TDMA phones in use in the mid-west. While GSM may have their own turf covered better in metropolitan areas by 2004, the fact remains that large tracks of land will not be covered by GSM for some time yet. Shall the ...
World class phone
In the near future Verizon will be making a true world class phone available. The SCH A790 will have the capacity to utilize the CDMA 800/1900 and the GSM 900/1800 bands.
Earlier this year this was just a rumor (rcrnews) but it appears that this myth is about to become a reality. Has anyone heard of a potential release date?
Re: Cingular SIM cards
Tom Z is right, this can be done, and there are hazards.
GAIT phones are designed to run as a native GSM phones. They have all the features of a standard GSM phone. If you live an a native GSM area then that's what your going to get- all the GSM services which are available in your area. I live in a native GSM area.
Some folks claim there is a problem associated with ...
Now it's Nextel's Turn
From rcrnews.com comes word that California is suing Nextel for the same reasons they sued Cingular.
In all fairness it is not the state itself but a self appointed watch-dog outfit that is behind this unfair billing practice issue. It is an outfit called the 'Foundation for Tax-payer and Consumer Rights', which is based Santa Monica. The connection between the Cingular case and the Nextel case is rather clear cut.
This group cites "deregulation" as the cause ...
Re: AT&T, Cingular, T-Mobile merger
The last time I heard this one it had to do with T-Mobile and AT&T. Perhaps all this merger talk is because T-Mobile is an outsider. Or perhaps this is really going to happen. This is one of those wait and see things.
Re: T62U *777*
You are correct. This is a user issue. Nokia choose not to allow people to be able to manipulate their GAIT phone in this manner. Cingular is aware of the issue and post a comment that if you are not on their system for at least half your calls they will end your contract.
Neither Cingular nor AT&T have any obligation to support any problems you develop for manipulating the software. But it is not ...
T62U *777*
An old tip in a new place. :D
The Sony Ericsson GAIT phone, the T62U, can be adjusted a little by the user. Enter *777* and reboot your cell phone. When it comes back on it will show a letter for the system you are using (G=GSM, T=TDMA, A=AMPS).
You can now go to the menu>settings>networks and then change things like your Protocol Stack (for if you want your cell phone to seek ...
Re: Attn All: If You Had A Choice, in what order?
Seattle area. I use both AT&T and Cingular. Cingular for myself and AT&T for my job. Cingular seems to have better GSM while AT&T can't be beat with their TDMA.
I stayed with Cingular because their new phone per renewal plan, and their roll-over plans, fits my needs. I use a T62U.
Re: Awesome!! (relaunch)
No problem at all. I like the idea. No more pretenses.
Re: Welcome to the new forums!
Thank you. We all need a fresh start. While I am not a long time user here I have come to enjoy the learning process and the exchanges of ideas.
Wind storm?
Last night's North West wind storm knocked out a lot of power. Did anyone have problems with their cell phone service?
