External display stays on?

Hi. I was thinking about picking one of these up. Csn anyone tell me if the external screen stays on when the phone is closed? Like to show the time, or if there's a missed call or VM? Thanks...

Nope. When open, the external buttons all have functions. The screens kinda glows a bit, but not so you'd notice. It's almost like it's "on", but is showing black color. Weird.
