Re: does cingular really have more towers?

I personally have Cingular, actually. I've got a few friends who have Verizon. I honestly haven't seen a significant difference between the two. I live in northern Arizona (fairly rural area), and I travel to Phoenix, Las Vegas, San Francisco, San Jose, Anaheim, and Los Angeles semi-regularly and have had no problems in any of those places or on the way there. I've also gone to conventions with tons of electronics and tens of thousands ...

It isn't a matter of how many towers either provider has (though it's possible that Cingular has more towers, I'm not sure). If you look at the population in the areas covered by both companies, Cingular has coverage in areas that have more people. A recent report shows Cingular covering 296 million, Verizon covering 256 million, Sprint covering 275 million, T-Mobile covering 239 million, and Alltell covering 77 million. Cingular also has more customers by about 1.5 million.

They say all the plans and promotions are regional, but I don't think there's much variance in text packages. Here's our current list (note all packages include picture, video, text, and IM): $4.99 - 200 messages $9.99 - 400 messages, 1MB of internet $14.99 - 1000 messages, 5MB of internet $19.99 - 3000 messages $19.99 - 200 messages, unlimited internet and video $29.99 - 1000 messages, unlimited internet and video $39.99 - 3000 messages, unlimited internet and video You can also add 1MB of internet to ...

People do this all the time. No matter where you are or what direction you're facing, they'll go to the far end of the kiosk behind your back and then try to get your attention in a rude way. I've watched people walk directly by me, make eye contact, and then wait behind me tapping on the glass to get my attention. I usually just stare at them until they catch on and walk back to ...

To be fair, it's not just Cingular that has a crappy call center for customer service. I used to sell Alltell and T-Mobile, and I personally had T-Mobile for four years and the call center for those two companies was crappy too. So is the call center for just about every credit card or bank I've ever gone with, and every company I've ever shopped with and needed to call in for something. It's the call ...

Honestly, I wouldn't worry. A job is a job. All you have to do is show up and do what you're told. It'll probably be different from what you're used to, but I don't think I'd say it'll be worse. I'm content with my job and my wife is content with her job. They're different and both have their own pros and cons, but neither are unbearable.

Our computers are quite restricted as well. We can get on Phone Scoop, the official websites for the various carriers or manufacturers, or our human resources site. We were able to bring in books or magazines to read, and also allowed to play DS, GBA, PSP, etc. We used to even bring in our own laptops so we could actually do useful things in our downtime, or bring in an iPod/Zune to listen to music, but ...

I wasn't referring to those types of guidelines. I mean that at corporate you can't read, play games, etc. Here we used to be able to with no problem. That's changed recently because of some specific events here, but for the first six months with this company it was not a problem to play a DS or read while it was slow. But yeah, I have had issues with corporate and indirect, and with different stores within ...

Re: hello

I think the indirects are a lot more focused on quotas because the corporate stores have so many customer service things that they deal with on top of sales. The corporate stores have quotas still, but it's just a lot easier to make them because they're a lot busier. To make up for that, the corporate stores are a lot more strict with guidelines and such for the most part.

Wow....an unbiased post about corporate vs indirect...didn't think such a thing existed @_@ I just expected to see some long rant about how every indirect is in business solely to rob people and screw them over, or that every corporate store has nothing but a-holes working for them... That's a pretty good summary though. I work at an indirect and my wife works at a corporate store (same carrier), so I've had plenty of experience with both. Assuming you're talking about ...

I have no brand loyalty. This is a job, and my service with Cingular is a result of being able to get a good price on a phone and getting a phone that I liked (I don't really like any of the phones I've seen on Verizon). I changed over to Cingular from T-Mobile because they don't work at all in the area I live now. When I move, if T-Mobile works there I'll probably change ...

The lady in my situation was being crazy. The store was packed, it was a Sunday afternoon, I had a line of 10 people in my tiny store waiting to purchase things from my one working register. She gets to the counter, has a wallet full of like 10 credit cards, and had bags of unrolled pennies and nickels that she wanted to pay with to "teach her son a lesson about money". I told her ...

He actually did go to a corp store. People like you that act like corp is so much better than indirect are ridiculous. Indirect and corporate are only as good as the people that work at the specific location you go to. You'll get just as many idiots, a-holes, and scammers at a corporate location as you will at an indirect.

At our store (not T-Mobile), we charge an activation fee which is not refundable either. It doesn't matter if we bundle it or not, the only thing people get a refund on when returning prepaid phones is the phone itself.

Even if a customer is being calm and not yelling or swearing, if they refuse to accept the answer that's being given, and even refuse to move out of the way for an employee to help the next person in line, then they are fully justified in calling the cops. I've had to do that as a manager before when a customer refused to accept the policy and refused to leave. It was a disruption to our ...

So on an upgrade, your first line would've paid out decent enough for them to give you maybe $50 off of one phone. Upgrading the added lines pays crap, and at my particular location (granted, it's Cingular, but I can't imagine there's much of a difference) we actually break even when upgrading family talk lines and selling the phones at the marked price. You don't get paid out on features with an upgrade either. So your entire five-line ...

It is expected that at pretty much any job you can give friends or good customers some sort of leniency or discount. However, to use your position to coerce a company into giving you your way is an entirely different story. On one hand, you have one party that is the employee willingly giving or offering, for example, a RAZR for $50 less than the normal price. It doesn't actually lose the company money (they still profit from the sale). ...

Customer (while walking in circles around our kiosk): You guys got any case holders? Me (after pausing a moment to compose myself and avoid laughing at the guy): For which phone? C: Cingular. M: Yeah. We have a lot of phones. He showed me his phone at that point so I showed him the appropriate cases. I get this all the time too. A week or so ago, I had a guy ask where a specific jewelery story was in the mall. That sounds like a horrible experience and I'd be pretty upset by it too. I've dealt with CS with Cingular, Alltell, and T-Mobile and they're all the same way. Maybe you got lucky with another carrier before, but generally with any company you have to assume that reps (in store or in the call center) may not know what they're talking about. That was definitely the most reasonable thing I've ever seen you post in our debates. I still disagree with your views on both economics and racism, but at least you didn't resort to name-calling and irrelevant insults (aside from the last sentence which I will dismiss as humor). Yeah, it's pretty amazing how lenient they are. You can bring in an item without the box or manuals, and oftentimes even missing small parts and they'll take it back. Half the time they don't even check it.

That's true. The local Basha's has stuff cheaper than Walmart when it's on sale too. Either way, I'd rather pay less money to get the same product. If it's cheaper at Walmart, I'll buy it there. If it's cheaper elsewhere I'll buy it elsewhere.
