De-Googling
I don't understand why the Chinese ever wanted phones for their De-Googling Androids. They shouldn't be calling other Androids, who knows what they would get up to?
Re: Looks nice but ...
I've heard that argument, mostly from retail salespeople. Look at the Nokia E71 vs. the Nokia 6650. Same OS, same apps, same browser, etc. Yet I would have a $30 plan for 1 and $10 for the other, just because there's a keyboard.
If I pay for unlimited data, I should get it no matter what device I use.
Re: Looks nice but ...
Radio signals are received from the satellites. You don't need to connect to the cell tower unless the phone needs A-GPS (E71x is standalone). E71x has the same hardware as E71, but Feature Pack 3 S60 (not 2) and AT&T mods. Nokia Maps doesn't work, but Google Maps should.

Re: Looks nice but ...
Sorry that was just impulse, but with all that Number 1, Number 2, A, B, C stuff, you seem to be setting yourself up as a bit of an expert.
For Standalone GPS on AT&T you have Nokia E71 and LG Xenon, which come locked. (there may be others)
I agree that the $10 is a good deal, but I don't understand how they can $30 just because there is a keyboard.
Re: Looks nice but ...
The E71 carried by AT&T is such a phone. Of course, a data connection is used, but it is handset-to-sat, not handset-to-celltower, so no need to buy a data plan. Just like you don't need a data plan to use wifi.
Re: Looks nice but ...
Hey Einstein -
Number 1: you don't need a data plan for standalone GPS like in the E71 & N95, you connect directly to the satellites, not the cell network. For A-GPS, you do need a data plan.
Number 2: Many people spend a lot of time at A, B, C, D and their office where wifi is available. If not, I can generally find free wifi without much problem.
Re: Looks nice but ...
Check out the Nokia E71 has standalone (free) GPS, 3+ MP Camera, WiFi and price point is close.
Maybe you can cancel the data plan after you get the rebate, but then no internet. If you have WiFi you can always find a hotspot.
Looks nice but ...
:?
I really like the form factor, but no wi-fi, poor camera resolution, no standalone GPS and data plan requirement makes this a no-sale.
AT&T?
So, the E72 will be in the US in the 3rd Qtr? Does that mean it will be at AT&T or just in the Nokia Stores?
Re: Issues with this idea
I'm not quite as trusting with the police as you are. There are many cases where private information has been unlawfully accessed by law enforcement for personal benefit. For instance, I could see a cop jamming his ex-wife's cell phone.
Perhaps if states/cities were held financially liable if 911 calls don't get through due to police jamming, it would promote some responsibility.
Re: At what price?
Clearly you don't understand either the technology or free markets.
Let me try to help. Carriers will profit more by not charging an additional monthly fee for this service. Why? Because they can get new customers and retain existing customers without building new cell towers. Also, their costs are even lower because traffic is carried over IP.
Lower costs, more customers, better service = more $
PS - Hitler is generally considered to be a conservative, so if you want to ...
At what price?
Femtocells are a great idea, but why do carriers think they can charge a monthly premium for them?
1 - If carriers provided adequate tower coverage, femtocells wouldn't be necessary. So they should provide them for free to get new customers.
2 - Femtocells use the customer's own already-paid-for Broadband IP service, so carriers have lower costs because they don't have to carry traffic on their own network.
Makes sense
This is a step in the right direction. Smartphones are not just for business anymore. What is really needed is a flat rate data/internet family plan.
What's the frequency, Kenneth?
Typically, Nokia first releases new devices with european 2100 3G frequency which is useless in the US.
1700??
T-Mobile 3G is great, but why can't they use 1900 for 3G like all the other US carriers. This way I can't use my unlocked AT&T phone on their network.
Re: fair practice
It is a good idea, unless you're an existing customer. Seems like this means no ETF for existing customer even when it's time for renewal.
This is reallllly BAD!
Openweb transcoding replaces the user agent with it's own version. The user agent is the only way for wap sites to identify a particular phone. This means the wrong ringtones and wallpaper will be sent to your phone.
Sprint has imposed this on users with no opt out! There has already been reported problems at Rumkin.com and FunForMobile.com
Bad Joke
So the whole thing is just a rumor?
Re: Where to get it??
Try Nokiausa.com or the Nokia flagship stores in New York and Chicago
TV-Out & WiFi
Just a couple things on that video; He calls the 3.5mm jack a headphone jack, and doesn't mention it's used for TV-out (super-cool feature of this phone)
Also, when he is web surfing I don't see the 3G logo, and it seems I saw the wifi icon there once. If that's the case, it wouldn't be a good measure of the AT&T network. He should have mentioned the wifi capabilities.
Re: Smartphone or not?
I don't think they consider it a smartphone. If you shop on their site under pda / smartphone, it's not listed.
Also they have a premium data plan called smartphone connect and I'm guess the N75 is not inlcuded in that.
Re: Video Share with N75?
Get the pocketcaster app from www.comvu.com
It is free. Does the same thing, except it's phone to web, not phone to phone.
Re: Lame 3G
UMTS is 3G. Yes, HSDPA is faster, but that doesn't mean UMTS is not "true" 3G. It handles streaming quite well and makes an pretty good modem. If all you want is HSDPA get a Motorola or LG with their simple OS.
Re: Lame Review
Try to stream 150K video with EDGE - it fails miserably. UMTS - No problem. It's not HSDPA, but way way better than EDGE.
Eric missed the point on 3G/S60 - he says:
"With so many capabilities, it could be hard to settle on the N75's defining feature. And that's just the problem, there isn't one."
There is indeed one. This is the only phone in the US that has both 3G and S60 OS. That is a huge deal.
Re: Lame Review
Cingular has several other S60 phones - what makes this phone unique is the combination of S60 + 3G - that is not mentioned.
Lame Review
This is the first and currently only 3G Nokia Symbian phone in the US. That alone makes it compelling. Why no mention of that in the review. There's a bit that talks about a slow browsing experience, but that doesn't mean anything.
How about video streaming? This is the only symbian phone that can do decent streaming and it's not even discussed. What about using it as a tethered modem?
Until the N95 supports WCDMA 1900, this is the best Cingular ...

Re: N81 & N82 make N75 look like a Fool! Sorry but you should have waited!
Unless you live in Europe or Asia, these phones will be much slower than the N75. per the Specs they don't support 3G in the US (2100 spectrum only)
Video
Great video. It did not mention the most important shortcoming of this phone - no 3G (2100 only) in the US
Re: N75 FOR PURCHASE
How do you know it's not pre-order? Did you buy one? Also $599 seems a bit high.
Re: Date to watch: April 6th
It seems to me, AT&T/Cingular would make some kind of announcement about a release date a week or so beforehand, rather than having phones magically appear in the stores.
