I have been there and made that choice. I had the Tytn (8525) and it is powerful includes WIFI etc. I switched in a heartbeat to the TREO 750. The form factor can not be beat. Ever try to dial a number one handed from the portrait screen on the 8525 (it either fingers or stylus. Also I could not handle opening and closing the slide out keyboard. I need my keys man. Try the following 01. Right Ket [Menu] -> Preferences -> Phone Settings 02. Services -> Band Selection 03. Change network type from Auto to GSM. See if this stops the dropped calls. I am happy to give up the UMTS until there is a firmware update with the HSPDA enables officially. This device is that good. I use it on GSM for now and have no problems. If I need to do heavy browsing I reenable the auto band selection. Then go back to ...

I have also noticed the dropped calls. It only happens when UMTS is engaged. I have set the band to GSM instead of auto. I have not had one call drop while on GSM. I hope that the update for HSPDA will correct this. You should test furthur selecting between the GSM and UMTS band. As the Treo 750 is one of the best devices I have ever used. You know I was very happy with the Q. I also did lots of research on the q prior to purchasing and I had a clear understanding that it was not a ppc and did not have touch screen, etc. When compared to smart phones the Q rocks. After 2 software updates the Q really rocks. With the last software update the battery life have improved a lot. Also there are old and new hardware versions. I pay close attention ...

Please see my review upon switching from the Verizon 7250BB to the Motorola Q. https://www.phonescoop.com/phones/p_for um.php?fm=m&ff=856&fi=652554 To add to this, I only see the quality and selection of the Windows Mobile software increasing. I am waiting for the Moto/Verizon update that enables the true push and maybe some minor bug fixes as well. I purchased the Desk Docking station from Moto at 20% discount and two extended batterys on special at verizon for 19.99 each. Hope that helps Regards

I use a 3rd party software SmartPhone Find, works very good. Made by Syncdata, the same people that make SmartPhone Notes which is great. This allows you to search all info (contacts, calendar, etc) or one type like contacts only. Regards Graylion

Nop and yes. The Q comes with a viewer only. When you open the excel file it is like looking at a graphic or pdf. you can zoom in or out, move left or right. Now there is a 3rd party software on Handango that may do what you want. I hope this helps. Regards Graylion

Re: Upcoming appointments

I suggest you use Papyrus and Facade. Papyrus give your great functionality for appointments and tasks, like outlook. Custom reminders, etc Facade allows you to identify the content of your home screen like a set custom bar at the top instead of recently used. Schedule and task can appear on your screen for a set number of days out. These two products rock I also use power tasks. Regards Graylion

Does your palm sync with outlook if so it syncs with the Q. If you are using outlook express export your contacts to a csv and import into outlook. Now outlook sync to the q. The is also software, may handango that allows express to sync. I am sure I have seen it. Regards

The start menu icons do not appear in the center screen ...

* Motorola Q2 - What would you do?
Jun 8, 2006, 5:19 PM
in the Motorola Q forum

Not if there will be a Q2 but when, hmm.... What would you change. I personally think that with some straight forward basic tweaks. The Q or Q2 if you will, could be one of the best devices on the market! Blackberry Streamlining - Double spaces equal period. - Autotext - Distribution groups or lists - Text selection - A little work on the keyboard layout - Hard delete key Anyway that my quick two cents, lets run with it. Regards Graylion

Here are the software choices/trials I am currently considering: PDANET - usb/bluetooth connect your notebook - works great Smartphone Notes - note function works with active sync - Easy to use and context functions for calling and emailing - Need one that will sync wirelessly - Need one that filter the note list whe you type Powertasks - unlocks many of the outlook features - Very nice program - I have selected this in place of oxios todo list (the insert contact functions much better) Power Calendar - will be ready ...

Re: Virtually unlimited address book??? I can not figure this one out.

I have 1400 contacts in my address book that sync between my exchange (2 desktops, 2 notebooks ), 1 blackberry and 1 Q. The Q accepted these without problem. In addition I do not think that addresses take up more memory than say attachments, multimedia. This is not based on specs, just my use and observation. Regards Graylion

Contact Messaging, Did you know?
Jun 6, 2006, 6:55 PM
in the Motorola Q forum

Interesting Observation I have 1400 contacts I when composing a new email message it goes like this: 01. type 3-4 letter of the first or last name as I know it in my contact list. 02. Type subject 03. Type the body. 04. Click send It now prompts me with a match selection of names for the 3-4 letters I typed. After selecting the correct contact it sends. This is better than I first thought, however not yet blackberry easy. Regards Graylion

WOW Great Review

Wow what a great review and I concur with 98% of what was said. The only thing that seems to miss slightly is the following: "Typing a name into the address field does not accomplish anything, it is not matched with the contact list." I have 1400 contacts and when I type a name about 3-4 letters, type the message and hit send, it prompts me with a list of match selections. This is better than nothing, but far from blackberry ...
