Hello to anyone that can help. I am noticing on Sprint's website that it says this phone has combined IM, MMS, and SMS messaging. Does this mean this phone finally offers true MO-SMS for text-only messages? Thanks!

Re: Sprint to potential sell off their iDEN network

Thank you, cellphonesaretools. It's about time someone got the facts straight. I was a Nextel customer for quite some time, but after Sprint came into the picture, I could could only watch my phone service and customer service drop for so long before I had to switch. It's a real shame that a "company" like Sprint got aholed of Nextel and ruined it in practically no time. I do hope Sprint sell's off the iDEN network, and I'd really ...

Nextel didn't do anything wrong. Things fell apart when Sprint (rhymes with another word I won't say here) took over.

Nice... The ic902 I had just said "Sprint". After having bad luck with Sprint's network (surprise), I got rid of the phone before I even thought to change the greeting banner. It's OK though, as now I'm back to a phone that just says "Nextel", all the time.

Traditional Nextel phones say Nextel both on the phone and the screen. The hybrid (PowerSource) phones say Nextel on the back of the phone, but say Sprint on the screen. Yes, traditional Nextel phones are still sold today, and these phones use iDEN for voice, as well as walkie-talkie (Direct Connect) and data services.

Yes, hybrid phones still have SIM cards, though they are not compatible with traditional Nextel phones. On the hybrids, iDEN is only for the walkie-talkie feature. On traditional Nextel phones, however, iDEN is used for everything - walkie-talkie feature, phone, and data.

Besides these issues, the main problem around here is not having 850MHz roaming, as Sprint's network is pretty skimpy in this rural area (whereas Nextel is solid). Having roaming, I could at least make use of the Alltel and Verizon CDMA networks, which blanket this area well also. So, I swapped back to my i880 for now, and I might either have the ic902 looked at, or just sell it and wait until the QChat phones come ...

ic902 Problems
Jan 19, 2008, 2:02 AM
in the Nextel forum

Hello all. I have been having major performance issues with my new ic902. I'm six miles from a Sprint tower and this area is flat terrain. I receive three or four bars of signal in my house out of a possible six. However, 90% of the time I cannot place a call, I cannot recieve a call, and I cannot send a text message. Very frustrating. Does anyone know if/how this can be resolved? Maybe a ...

This is my worry as well. I've been a Nextel customer for two years but am thinking of switching to a hybrid to get better text messaging and data. The thing is that these are 1900 only. I've heard some say this doesn't hurt anything, and others say it cuts coverage in half. If the PowerSource coverage maps on the S/N website hold true, I am covered. Does anyone know how accurate those maps ...

OK, so this guy I work with in southern Ohio says he received a letter from S/N saying that on November 10th, his Nextel service is going away, and from then on, will only be available in major markets (i.e. big cities). I have not heard or received anything about this whatsoever, and it seems totally ludacris to me (then again, it's Sprint we're dealing with, so I suppose nothings's a surprise). Does anybody know what's up? ...

I actually have an i580. I live near Tiro, OH (44887) on a high elevated area, and got a tower in Findlay, OH (45840). I searched the GPS coordinates provided in the GPS menu of trace mode. That's where it is. I'm not making it up. The signal was very weak, obviously, but I had it.

I have gotten towers as far as 60 miles away, when there are towers less than ten miles away, on clear nights. I'm in northern Ohio, where it's relatively flat topography, so maybe that's why. Pretty amazing stuff.

Yes, that's right, and I do believe the company can improve all the way around, in time. Merging companies wasn't the wrong thing to do, but they have handled it the wrong way so far. The future is very bright for the company if they can get their act together. I just think that so far, they have failed at one of the most important factors in business - keeping the customer happy. This is ...

On the network side: I have several friends that have had Sprint and ended up switching to Nextel, Verizon, or Alltel (the three that perform well here in the northern Ohio area). Sprint's network is spotty, at best, where others are solid. On the customer service side: Before the merger, it used to take me one call to reach a knowledgeable Nextel representative if I had a question, and my question was always answered. Now with Sprint Customer ...

While playing a song, simply push the speaker button on the top of the phone. It toggles the MP3 player between speaker and earpiece. (At least that's how it's done on the i870 and i880.)

Probably a silly question, but with what color is the keypad back-lit on the i580? Is it blue, or yellow like the i530? Also, what color is the outside monochrome screen? Just curious, as I am looking to purchase one. I upgraded from an i530 to an i880 recently, which turned out being a mistake. I tend to beat my phones up (not intentionally, it just happens), because I'm a farmer and also work at a steel mill. ...

It's not the Sprint customers that should be whining. Their service always has sucked, so nothing has changed there. It's the Nextel side who, up until the merger, always received quality service, and have now watched that quality disappear. I suppose we have a right to be somewhat frustrated.

Yes, do please check the maps, dexter21. In my area, Nextel puts Sprint to shame. That's why I have Nextel. Maybe it's the same in your area; you never know. It all depends on the area...so get the one that works better in yours.

Go into the memory card section of your Media Center, find your picture, press Menu, and choose Set as Wallpaper. It will automatically copy the picture to the phone and then set it as the wallpaper. There are also menu choices for Copy to Phone, as well as Move to Phone.

I agree. I've never had a single problem. I've always loved Nextel and their service, and in my opinion, Sprint is essentially ruining everything good that Nextel had going for them as a stand-alone company. I plan to stay on iDEN-only phones up until they actually boot me off (if that ever happens). I think iDEN is just fine, and in my area, Nextel outperforms every other carrier. It's just like the old saying, 'You can't ...

I can agree with you totally. I live in a rural area in northern Ohio. It used to be that Nextel was only good in nearby towns. They now have this entire area covered very well. Even in the farthest out, most rural area around here, I can get signal with my Nextel. i850 for sale
Dec 28, 2006, 12:54 AM

Is anyone interested in a four-month old i850 for Nextel? The phone looks slightly used, but is by no means in bad condition. Paint is somewhat wore off on the top and corners, from rubbing on the carry holster, but it's nothing some touch-up paint couldn't fix. Also, there are a few bumps and scratches on the phone, from normal use. Everything works fine on it...I am selling because I am upgrading to a newer ...
