Re: Will WiMax make it to markets that have not yet gotten Rev A?
Aug 5, 2010, 10:50 AM

It appears that El Paso has DOrA as QChat works there. Clicking the DC tab on Sprint is a quick way to tell where DOrA has been deployed. If you are not seeing rev A in that area may want to have you devices checked. Anyway, if Clearwire offers service there it will be upgraded to the newest WiMax by the end of the year. At least that is the last that Clear released about the old ...

I would say that the other networks have a picocells or some other system in the airport. Clear probably doesn't have systems like those in place yet. Being a new network they are probably going for broad coverage first then doing the fine tuning and fill in work over time. It is going to be a bit before everything matures to the level of what all the other networks currently have. 4G is a completely ...

But I suppose the 700mhz will be good & snappy with the great bldg penetration. Clear is going to be testing 4X2 MIMO antennas later this year with WiMax Release 2. That release should boost speeds to 24 mbps using 20 Mhz channels.

Verizon spent 743 million for it. If Sprint were to outbid Verizon the price would have probably gone close to or above 1 billion. I don't think this sponsorship was worth that much to Sprint. Those that leave won't be a big loss since Sprint will not be spending that large sum of money. I used the NFL app once in the 5 years I have been with Sprint. That was just when I ...

If you call CS and ask about it they may be able to find one. A 3G EVDO version is on the way which I can only guess the production of 1xrtt versions was stopped to use up the stock. My guess is they were counting on the EVDO version being out by now since they are very low on the 1xrtt version.

Depending on your area you may experience fewer dropped calls. If you give your location that would help determine if Sprint works good where you live. Data will be faster much of the time and overall you will see more 3G EVDO. Before porting a number over I would get a phone and try out the service. If it works well then port the number. That saves the hassle of porting again if the ...

You are incorrect as I was well within 15 miles of a tower and even had Sprint coverage yet the airave didn't work. The issue is that Sprint maintains a database and adds the zip codes manually. With large zip codes they have issues as part of a zip code can be covered, and fairly well, but other parts have no coverage. In that case Sprint seems to blackout an entire zip code. I have ...

The info on the airave is incorrect. Sprint has to have your area in its database otherwise it won't work. I lived less than 10 miles from a tower and the airave wouldn't work. The reason is that I was in a different zip code and the GPS was preventing it from working. Kicker of it was I even had signal from the Sprint tower and could use it but the airave didn't work. ...

Verizon doesn't boot people for roaming. I know that and I have been with Sprint for almost 5 years now. I recently had Verizon trying to sell me service in an area where they roam so they obviously don't care. Right now it seems like all V cares about is the number of subs, even if they lose money on a few.

It requires a new channel card at the tower. It should be fairly inexpensive to implement on the tower end. One good reason to upgrade is that those with dumb phones really don't need the speed LTE offers. EVDO many times is limited by the processor speed in those phones and generally less data intensive apps are run. Verizon has stated the first thing they are going to try to move to LTE is the ...

So far off the mark on the ISP route it isn't even funny. There are no agreements with ISPs to give them priority. Many of the problems started before the merger. The culprit of many of the network problems that were experienced can be placed squarely on boost taking off. I don't live out there but speeds are very tower dependent. Usage is mainly to blame but most of the time the Sprint data network is faster than the Verizon network. I'm a sprint customer and yes the network needs to be built out more. Major interstates still have no sprint coverage and barely any roaming. I80 through Wyoming and Nebraska is one such road. Soon everything will be data based. So yes data is the key to everything and why wimax is so important. The capacity and latency of that system will allow voip in the future. Rev A has low latency but I think sprint is sick of paying huge royalties to qualcomm for everything they do.
