Unlocking a phone
I have an iPhone 3GS on AT&T. I go to Europe every summer for a month to spend time with relatives. I have a prepaid Vodafone account there just for calls and texts. I was wondering what I would need to do in order to unlock my iPhone. I want to pop my Vodafone sim card in it. Is this even possible? Thanks in advance for all your help.

AT&T's network is not that bad as everyone claims it to be. The iPhone does get a lot of dropped calls. However, before I had this phone, my service was great (Detroit, MI/Tampa, FL). It honestly depends on where you live and what phone you are using. All my previous phones on AT&T (Motorola V3i, L7, V3, K1, SE W580i, Blackberry Pearl) worked great with data and voice. matte or shiny?
is it a matte finish or shiny like 3G? i want to get it in white but i am afraid if it is matte the phone will get really dirty.

i got an iphone in december 07. then i got an iphone 3g in december 08. my contract was not up until december 09 but since i bought the 3g it just extended my contract to december 2010. so if it isn't true, how did it work for me?

you can buy an iphone at anytime during your contract. the purchase will just extend your contract from that day. any other phone you would have to wait for eligibility.

it probably costs a lot more for someone to use it on the t-mobile network. they have to buy the phone, cancel the at&t contract, unlock it, and sign up with t-mobile. so he probably has more money than you do.

Service Down
I live in the suburbs of Detroit, MI. Service has been down since 10:00 this morning. I called AT&T and they told service is down in six other states besides Michigan as well. How ridiculous is this?! Service still has not been restored. This situation needs to be fixed soon.

if you can't trust your kid enough and have to get this device to prohibit them from talking/texting in the car, maybe you shouldn't let them drive at all. tell the kids not to talk/text and if they respect you enough, they won't. no need for this device if you and your kids communicate well. just a thought.

does the merger mean verizon is going to sell phones that alltel has now, like the muziq, scoop, and glimmer? is verizon going to change the UI on all these phones if they do keep them?

my mom has a 580 right now and she likes it. we saw the shine at the mall yesterday and she thought it was beautiful. she is still in her 30 day return policy. does the shine have advantages over the 580? or just the looks? what should she do?

was going to get an iphone. read on phonescoop about the 3g version in 2008. i don't know if i should get the iphone now or wait for the new one. if i wait, it probably won't come out until next fall with my luck, but if i get it, it will come out in february. what should i do? i was thinking about getting a shine to hold me over. is it a good phone?

service completely stopped in my area
i live in grosse pointe, mi outside of detroit and my family is on a plan with at&t. this morning everything was fine. we were getting 4-5 bars like we always do. then all of a sudden, we all get no service. i called a few friends with at&t in the area and they also have no service. this is the second time this has happened in this area. has anyone heard of something like this or know anything ...

i have a 4 bought ringtones on my krazr, but i want to transfer them to my razr. i put them on my memory card and put the memory card in my razr. the ringtones showed up, but when i went to play them a message said "only allowed on originating device". is there a way to get around this? i'm really annoyed. i paid $2.49 for the ringtones and i can't use them on whatever phone i want. ...

FYI the issue is all fixed. And I apologize for making it seem like the town that i live in is a big area. It actually only covers 3-5 miles of land. But I went to best buy on Gratiot, I wouldn't think Roseville was effected, my phone worked there.

i have cingular in metro detroit. GP to be exact. my service was fine this morning 3/5/07. then i didn't have any service, nethier did anyone with cingular at my high school. then i came home to find my family without service also. i called cingular to see whats up. they have no idea. well apparently the tower in my local area fell and the result...no service. has this ever happened to anyone else?
