The V3i has mp3 support as well. The V3i is close to coming out, the stores have demo units, there are production ads made, but it may have been delayed AGAIN until 10/1/2006!

No "Chocolate" Buttons on GSM KRZR???
I can't believe they didn't include the touch-sensitive buttons on the cover of the KRZR (Canary) for GSM... only CDMA... which is obviously aimed at Verizon as it also includes support for their turn-by-turn directions service.
A shame, as it looks to be a promising upgrade even to the V3i (m), although the build quality and form factor are probably not as good, would have to hold one to know.

As of yesterday, they still had the display phones at the mall here in Madison, WI, although he didn't have an exact sale date.
I would be surprised to hear they have a lot of probs with dropped calls, as I've been using a V3i on Cingular for months now and almost NEVER drop a call, in fact I drop less calls with this phone than any other phone I've ever owned on Cingular. NOw, who knows what firmware version ...

And, to answer yankessfan's actual question, YES you can put the DAP (digital audio player) java app on it, which is what Moto puts on the non-itunes version. It does require knowlege of "moto hacking" ie using p2kman, etc.
I'm sure someone will figure out a hack to disable the limit on the v3i eventually as well, they have on the rokr, slvr, etc.
ivanich's work-around does work, BUT, you cant access all of your music through the menus, it just ...

Cingular - V3i too similar to Samsung D807?
Cingular apparently just released (or is in the next day or so) the Samsung SGH-D807...
If you compare the two phones, theyre very similar in feature sets and size... price point as well.
I'm starting to wonder if these phones are too similar for Cingular to carry both (besides the different form factors), and they were deciding between one or the other? Hope this doesnt mean the V3i will mysteriously drop off their radar..

Re: iTunes doesn't recognize my phone
Make sure you have your USB Connection setting on the V3i set to 'memory card' and not 'data/fax connection'. Then open itunes, plug in the phone, and it should recognize (takes about 30 secs or so).

This compared to V3i on Cingular
Cingular is apparently also releasing the Motorola V3i (updated RAZR) in the next week or two...
The specs on these two phones are very similar, in terms of features and size. Plus I think they're a pretty similar price point. The V3i does have iTunes, and a few more features (hey, it's Moto so everything and the kitchen sink ;), but otherwise these are similar phones.
Just wondering if people think they are too similar, and maybe they had to ...

No, Cingular doesn't have exclusive rights for iTunes, Motorola does though. This V3i that I bought is an unlocked phone which was sold in the Singapore market months ago.
Verizon systematically cripples every feature from every good phone they get. Remember the V710? No OBEX for BT??? WTF?

I agree, the original RAZR V3 (the ones currently out in the US) do suck donkey cajones.

Also, it is tri-band, so it does not support the 850Mhz band. Make sure you dont need 850 before buying the V3x! (Cingular mostly uses it, but not in all parts of the US)

Just go on ebay or the hundreds or online retail websites and just buy one! It's going to cost about what you pay for the unlocked version to get this phone with Cingular WITH a 2-year contract! Without, it will be about double the cost from them. Sheesh!

Why no A2DP on the Walkman W710?
So the main differences between the W710 and V710 are that the walkman does not have A2DP, and the non-walkman one does...
Way to go SE! You get an award for making absolutely no sense while at the same time deliberately stripping features from the user.

I'm with Cingular, and have had a number of different unlocked non-Cingular-supported phones. I can tell you, with Cingular - you're on your own. They don't support the phones, or offer much help for setting them up. Luckily there is a huge support community for this on the internet.
T-Mobile, from what I hear, is much more willing to help. They will give WAP and SMS settings, etc, and I think will even do it for you if they can.

There is no song limit for the phones without iTunes, because you're using the Motorola music player built in. You are only limited by the storage space.
In fact I think you dont even have the limit on the iTunes-enabled phones if you're playing music using the Motorola player instead of iTunes (I think they have both). But I could be wrong. And I'm sure if I am someone will point it out ;)

I believe it was originally end of Feb, then I heard end of March, then I heard end of April. So, I'd give it about a 50/50 chance of either April 27, or being pushed back to end of May!
I'd just buy it already and if need be you can flash to the Cingular flex (dont know why you'd want to though) :)

Dude, go look on ebay or wherever you like, this phone IS released, it's just not available THROUGH Cingular yet. You can buy it and use it on their network to your heart's content.

Also, the V3x is 3G, V3i does not support the 3G (which is rolled out by Cingular in major cities in the US recently).
