Slightly faster than TD-LTE and TDA-LTE but not quite true 4G like LTE-Advanced.

Benchmarks the same as Charge on 2.3... Quad band LTE is better for roaming, sure, doesn't mean much otherwise. And less than 600mb extra internal available to user, and Charge came with 32gb card pre-installed.

Because no VZW/ATT LTE devices have said toggle, you have to go into wireless settings and switch fro mixed cdma/lte or gsm/lte to just cdma or just GSM... Compared to those phones, this is much more easily adjusted. I believe that is what they meant to say. If this can be toggled by pulldown switch or a widget then it is MUCH easier to adjust.

in the Article: Review: HTC Amaze 4G forum

In fact the Amaze uses the same "special sim" as the Galaxy S II to achieve a newer, smoother wifi calling experience, so you must use the SIM in the retail box if you want wifi calling. (Apparently most live demos and review units are using a standard 4G sim though, which seems odd.)

Actually that is a fairly accurate range, I work at a Sam's club kiosk in Witchita, Kansas. Not exactly a bastion of techno-savvy consumers, and my worst part timers make $15, and I make $30+, in December my lowest rep averaged $21/hr. Not only are Sam's customers loyal, but Radio Shack training is top in the industry. I left the corporate store because Sam's had all the traffic in my area. Also, there will be no loss of jobs, and even ...

Huh? The GPS hardware is not impingent on the software. If a standard GPS chip with satellite locking is available google nav uses it, and has since my q9c on windows mobile 6. On my Samsung epix it was accurate to within 10 feet within 30 seconds, and down to 3ft given a couple minutes to lock, and tracked better than any AT&T nav phone I've ever seen. Actually AT&T/Navigon software only uses AGPS/cell towers on the majority of feature ...

in the Article: RadioShack Expanding to Target Stores with Kiosks forum

Yup, I am a manager at one of the test sites in Grapevine, TX. This is a great thing because with our training and experience we are seeing not only an increase over when Target sold contract phones themselves, but and increase in the overall satisfaction in the electronics department as a whole. For those who don't know how Radio Shack remains competitive it is services like their Kiosk devisions (Sprint mall kiosks, Sam's Club Kiosks, K-Mart Kiosks) where they are ...

AT&T has both non-contract options, either go month to month (simply use a GO phone sim) or get a contract (pay $25 for a regular ATT sim). As mentioned above the smartphone data plan is not available without a contract, period. This is due to the overage model not being compatible with prepaid or pay as you go models. ATT experimented briefly with a metered data model, but it resulted in too many accounts ending up with uncollectable balances... Anyhow, thats ...

in the Article: AT&T CFO Sees Tiered Pricing Future for Carriers forum

Ah, but you just hit on one of the other fallacies of american wireless, that there is a cost per minute. There in fact isn't, though there is a minuscule (1/10th or less of a penny) cost in connecting the call, it actually doesn't cost any different if you talk 5 minutes or 5 hours, same as on a land-line. (And on LTE based systems where calls are routed as VOIP it is even less). That is if net neutrality ...

Re: Actually 4G makes this argument an even bigger lie
Apr 22, 2010, 12:16 AM
in the Article: AT&T CFO Sees Tiered Pricing Future for Carriers forum

Well that actually runs into the secondary issue of the cost of broadband and fiber backhaul in the US, which is also out of proportion, providing more bandwidth on the datacom side is also similarly cost effective, but people like AT&T and Verizon enjoy overcharging each other for the use of their fiber networks in between, so we get this spiraling price issue. Essentially the lack of regulation on what these things should cost vs what the end user is ...

Actually 4G makes this argument an even bigger lie
Apr 21, 2010, 5:38 PM
in the Article: AT&T CFO Sees Tiered Pricing Future for Carriers forum

Considering LTE offers as many as 10x the data sessions per 10mhz of bandwidth versus hsdpa this argument is actually moot. As we move towards true IP based WWAN networks, IPv6 not withstanding, these arguments hold less and less water. It would be more accurate to say that the corporate CFO is betting we'll pay more just because he says so. Unfortunately americans have thus far told the big 4 wireless providers in the US that it is OK to ...

MetroPCS should be getting this in next 6 weeks. Pretty slick, especially if you're a big google/gmail/picasa user as they're highly integrated with the phone. Also as tilt detection for landscape/portrait mode switching. Supposed to be about $50 less than the Samsung that launched today.

MPCS - ZTE C88
Dec 20, 2007, 12:27 PM
in the Article: ZTE to Start Selling Mobile Phones in the US forum

MetroPCS is looking at the ZTE C88. It is a 1st gen RAZR clone, unimpressive camera, bluetooth 1.1 w/headset and OBEX/FTP confirmed. Not confirmed whether you can use your own files as ringtones. Does have fully USB 2.0 compliant mini-usb charging port/data port so it can even use RAZR chargers. The main thing that stuck out in the specs was that it has a total message capacity of 1000 messages because of its massive 64mb internal memory. No word on how ...

Upd to 7 days standy, sustainted 3 hours call with bars to spare (3 hr is the single call limit on MPCS btw, the only hard limit built into our system, but you can just hang up and call again). Re: Why do people complain
Feb 4, 2007, 2:50 AM

Whiney americans. In europe we've been spending $200 - $800 on phones for years. Our companies provide only the SIM card and service. True, MetroPCS doesn't have SIM cards, allowing you to take an unlocked phone anywhere in the world. If you want to gripe about that go ahead, but the concept of paying a resonable price for the phone you want is nothing new, you've just been pampered by bloated companies who spend too much time on proprietary ...

True. Most Li-ion batteries have 100k cycles though so it'll take 203 years to blow out under normal use.
