Re: Can/how to "silent" the E815 on power up?

in the Motorola E815 / E816 Hollywood forum

Use bitpim and overwrite the startup sound with an empty mp3 file. That's what I did. Check www.howardforums.com for the exact details, I don't remember the name of the file off the top of my head and don't have my serial cable handy at the moment to check. Or, I believe that if you have the ring type set to silent, there will not be a sound upon startup.

Re: Getting phone in a VZW store VS getting phone at CC?
Jan 23, 2006, 12:23 PM
in the Verizon forum

Cool thanks for the replies. There's a CC and a VZW Store at the mall near my job, but the VZW store is always crowded and tiny, figure I can get helped quicker at the CC. I did see the Nokia 6256i, and I really thought about getting it, but I don't like that you can't just use voice dialing for any entry in the phone book, and that you can't do number dialing either. Those ...

Getting phone in a VZW store VS getting phone at CC?
Jan 23, 2006, 12:05 PM
in the Verizon forum

Just wondering if there's any difference between getting a phone in a Verizon Store VS getting it at Circuit City (which is a Verizon store I know) My concern is that if the phone is bad, tech support, etc. if I get it a CC and the VZW store won't help me because it wasn't bought at a VZW store. I have the feeling it doesn't matter, but I just want to be sure.

Re: Can't order a new phone online for 6 months!

So VZW was useless. I spoke to the Internet Sales department and the woman was very rude. She transferred me to a nice CS rep who also couldn't help me. To me this practice is BS. It's like buying a coat at a store, then returning it because it doesn't fit, and when you want to get a new one they say "sorry sir, you can't shop here again for another year" The CS ...

Yeah I spoke to a supervisor, I may call during tomorrow, odds are I'll get someone else and hopefully they can be more helpful. I think it's lame that they make up these rules and don't tell you *anywhere* nor can they reset it anywhere either.

Thanks pete1660, I appreciate it! I've heard nothing but good things about the E815, I should have just gotten it *before* the V325, and when it was still $99 - then it would been free with my NE2!

Yeah I am not holding my breath. I filed a complaint with the BBB but that's useless as well I am sure. I will just have to suck it up and go to a store and spend the $50 extra plus sales tax and then wait forever for the refund check I'm afraid.

Can't order a new phone online for 6 months!
Jan 21, 2006, 8:51 PM
in the Verizon forum

So I got the V325 back in December, and it sucked, so I returned it. Now I want to order the E815 online and they are telling me that you have to wait 6 months before getting another phone online! I don't have the time to get to the stores, plus I want the $50 instant online rebate. So they tell me that they don't state that anywhere on their web site, but it's the "system" ...

I live just north of NYC. Also, I will probably just disable EVDO via the info found on howardforums.com. I think the LG8100 has been pulled from the Verizon web site temporarily until they can do a firmware upgrade to allow playing songs from their online music store, not sure about the Samsung tho.

I don't care about being able to watch videos or play music on my phone, that's what I have a mp3 player for or a TV @ home :) But I've been reading mixed reviews on the 6256i anyways, that the UI is clunky, ergonomics aren't so great, etc. I may just hold out another week until the 17th, hopefully the E815 will drop to $99 and by then my NE2 date will be reset.

I would have except that there were no other phones that I wanted at the time. I may get the E815 in a few weeks when it drops down below $100 again (I read on howardforums that it will be dropping back to $99 on Jan 17th) or going to Circuit City and checking out the Nokia 6256i and using my NE2 there. I just need to call the CC's around here and see if they have ...

How long for warehouse to notify that you're returned a phone?
Jan 9, 2006, 10:53 AM
in the Verizon forum

So I had the Motorola V325 under my NE2 and I returned it. It was received on December 30th according to the FEDEX tracking number. I called last week to make sure it was received and that my NE2 was reset and my contract expiration date was reset. The woman who answered said that she did show via the tracking number that it was received, but that it takes the warehouse up to two weeks! to ...

That's too bad, b/c I would have gotten the 6256i for sure if I could under my NE2. Now I'm going to get the Moto V325 instead, comes out tomorrow or Wednesday online, who knows when in the stores. It's already up on testman.verizonwireless.com

One of the VZW stores near me (White Plains, NY on Central Avenue) is horrible. You get there and sign in, and then supposedly they call your name. Everytime I have been there it's been a bad experience. Their customer service is terrible, and there is always a very long line and only one or two techs. The parking lot is always jammed, and no one helps you in any meaningful way. Luckily normally ...

lorna - I hate to say it but you are probably out of luck. Most companies that make software only care about Windows and Internet Explorer. I don't use either Windows or MacOSX, and don't use Internet Explorer to surf the web, you'd be surprised at how many web sites *only* work with Internet Explorer. I used to use a Mac, and I think once you hook up your bluetooth adapter, it should just "see" ...

No I am probably not getting the RAZR. I wanted to get the Nokia 6256i using my NE2, but since it doesn't look like it's going to be a Verizon Wireless stores anytime soon (if ever) I may get the Motorola V325 instead, looks like a nice rugged phone. I just wish it had Bluetooth so I could use the wireless headset in the car - dealing with the wired one is a pain.

Probably. At the moment I don't have any bluetooth capable computers (Yes I know I can get a an adapter) but I can also just get a cable to sync up the address book/etc. All I want is good call quality and good reception, and a bluetooth headset (and a partridge in a pear tree.....)

I've read on howardforums.com that the mp3 player doesn't work (and odds are neither does the FM radio) but I don't care about those features, that's why I have a mp3 player.... I just want a good stable phone with good reception and clear call quality.
