I'm sorry, after seeing that right at the start I couldn't take any of this seriously in the slightest.
Half-baked phone.
I think the hardware portion of this review shows it the best.
The design is the same as last year, clearly without improvements and even tweaking it just so that people have to buy new cases.
The headphone jack being removed only makes some sense for headphones, and has significant unaddressed disadvantages.
The stereo speakers are neat, but only half work due to the disparity in volumes.
Your description of the screen literally matches my year-old Droid turbo 2, but with the ...
Re: I swear, if people complain about this one...
Ironic. But yeah. Regardless of people being stupid and calling them horrible regardless, it's a good move for literally everyone - their customers *and* them.
Re: I swear, if people complain about this one...
Called it. "Oh no, how dare they implement something that's better for people. They're actually charging it."
How is this a bad thing? The fact that it is a whole $5 (oh, mercy me, FIVE DOLLARS for this) means that it's not far and away worth it for people who get overages? (vs people using too much paying far more for more data?)
Re: I swear, if people complain about this one...
Then... don't?
I swear, if people complain about this one...
I don't care if it takes from other companies. This is a good thing for the consumer, and it's basically taking the good things from other carriers and saying "okay, fine, they were right. Here. Have all of the things that work."
Another poorly thought out promotion
Don't they know what people want? Come on, they want faster data and better speeds and more consistency and most of all, LOWER PRICES. With increasing technology and quality of content should come lower prices, not higher. Not even equal. Lower.
Don't they know how the economy works? And now they try to give away pizza for free as if it's going to fix their horrible customer service for overly expensive prices??? This is sheer robbery. How dare they.
...oh wait. ...
Just like sprint itself
There have CLEARLY been nay-sayers going on about how blackberry is out of the market, but they keep making good phones like this and more people are buying them. Right? Right?
As much as Apple sucks...
They did good with this. We need more smaller-sized, high-end phones. People who prefer a smaller form factor are already routinely crapped on by manufacturers who only make large or phablet-sized phones as their high-end ones, leaving low-quality hardware for the smaller phones.
Now if only people would notice Sony more... or if other manufacturers would follow suit.
Re: Waste Of Money/Resources
Congratulations. You have declared yourself the "victor" of an argument. In that case, I agree - you 'win' the argument, as you have chosen to be obstinate and petty enough to care about 'winning' an internet argument.
May you continue playing with your ego and lack of reading comprehension in peace.
Just. You know. Kindly don't bother the people who are here to talk about the content. Thanks.
Re: Waste Of Money/Resources
Not at all. I do, however, consider saying that someone needs to type in complete sentences (when most are) and use proper punctuation (when most of it is), to be rather poor criticism - not really worth the point and the lazy "tl;dr" statement. Just saying "TL;DR" isn't saying "the post is too long", if you've kept up with the internet within the last 12-13 years, that term has practically turned into shorthand for "I'm lazy and don't want ...
Re: Waste Of Money/Resources
No, but you certainly were acting like the other half of the idiot internet when you just said "Tl;dr" without contributing. You're also being a bit of a pot calling the kettle black, making a large (if not quite *as* large) rant about how he 'epitomizes everything wrong with people today', despite that nobody is forcing you to read it, while personally attacking him for not spelling everything perfectly and calling him a buffoon.
I defend people who get stupid ...
Re: Oh my god.
That's true. But those plans aren't good for everyone (read: most people), and in those cases contracts just aren't better.
If those plans are better for people and they can keep them, great! 100% support for that. But at the same time, it would be better to leave it open as an option for the people who it will actually benefit - *most consumers* get confused if they have more than 2-3 options, it seems. (and I've seen it from ...
Re: Oh my god.
Oh well. I guess if Sprint wants to pick up all of the people who don't do math and want to end up paying just as much (maybe $10-15 less than other carriers) for crappy service, then... more power to them for finding that many gullible people who don't do research or apparently even watch TV.
Re: Waste Of Money/Resources
Except he did..? It's not perfect, but it's way more readable than a lot of the drivel you see on the internet.
Re: And Apple will still be putting out entry level 8GB/16GB iPhones
Um... anyone who takes many pictures at all or who wants to keep music and other media on their phone *without* paying hundreds (plural) of dollars extra will need the extra storage space. When the OS takes up at least 50% of the storage space, you tend to have a problem with the space. Not to mention, the total cost of increasing the storage space is what, maybe $2-3 per phone? That's certainly a big deal for a company ...
Re: Oh my god.
The tax is certainly true in a lot of cases (but not in California or Oregon). While I will agree that it is cheaper in some cases, in many cases the cost of taxes does not even come close to outweighing the cost of the subsidized phone and increased prices to make up for that cost.
As for your corporate discount and changing plans... this is a non-issue for a large amount of people who either need more data, can ...
Re: Oh Please...
"Oh no, how dare they comply with the law in every reasonable way. Clearly they just want to jump on Apple's bandwagon of 'we won't deliberately make extra tools to compromise security' to look good, not because it would entirely compromise local storage in addition to already-compromised cloud storage. Nuance and the specifics of the situation aren't important."
Oh my god.
That isn't bringing it back with any extra "catch". That's the same damn "catch" it had in the first place! It's the same "catch" it ALWAYS had. As far as I know, that even holds true for all of the carriers.
Don't get me wrong, I'm glad that people are finally doing the math and explaining it to people, but holy crap it took long enough. Maybe now if people pay any attention, they won't beat up customer service ...
Re: Nice prices.
It's an even greater shame that people like you post things after assuming we haven't. Sprint's network isn't on par with verizon, any roaming agreements they have with AT&T and T-mobile require phones that are compatible with GSM *and* CDMA. While that is becoming more common with the shutdown of whatever CDMA there was in most of the world, it's still not that common yet.
Further, according to Sprint's very own legal terms and conditions, if you use over 800 ...
Nice prices.
It's a shame that their prices apparently don't even support their network, considering what they're doing.
GG Sprint. Have another go when you get enough funding to make a network that has more than the "net" part.
Re: Interesting Take
Sadly, this kind of thing is dramatically complicated.
If Apple willingly does it, it sets a precedent and makes them look bad. If the government forces them, it makes the government look bad. At the same time, when would it stop? If the government can force Apple to unlock this phone, they might try to do more with that power due to corruption.
Meanwhile, terrorists and criminals can indeed take advantage of this seclusion - so it's a trade off between ...
Re: Oh good
Oh, no. I doubt they will, too. Sarcasm doesn't translate too well through text. :P
Oh good
Apple stopped screwing over third party repairs of iPhones quite as much. Glorious.
Maybe next they'll stop gluing components together in order to do the same kind of thing.
This is neat.
My only question is whether or not smartphone speakers are currently capable of producing ultrasound waves (and whether the microphone is capable of picking them up). Like. How does it work? Normally specialized equipment is needed. Does this mean we can also start to do normal ultrasound scans using a phone?
As far as I'm aware, normal smartphone mics and speakers have limited frequency output and input (based on my own tests as an audiophile and musician), so... How does ...
To paraphrase...
FCC: "Let's make it possible for people with hearing problems to have the same phones as people without these problems. You know, equality of opportunity."
Apple: "How dare you require us to make our products properly available to everyone. We want to only have our specific types of (likely overpriced) hearing aid which locks people into our ecosystem or massively inconveniences them."
I mean come on. I'm sure they'd complain just as bitterly if they were required to have compatible chargers ...
Re: Personally, a good deal
>even if it appeals only to a select few
A great point. I think it would be great if this were made its own independent plan, and if Verizon made a similar plan of its own, even if it's contingent on fios (but most likely not).
*most* people genuinely don't need unlimited data.
Regarding yesteryear's unlimited data, I think that perhaps providers should put their plans where they say it and adjust them to be 3g only, if that's what they were ...
Re: what a scam
While I agree that's a catch, it should also be noted that t-mobile and sprint do the same with their "unlimited" data and nobody says much of anything. Most people don't use over that 22GB amount either. (most. Not all.)
