Re: I thought sprint had Sprint Mobile Email...
Like GPS-enabled Google Maps? Or Buddy Beacon? Or MySpace Mobile? Or GPS-tagging uploaded pictures and videos? Or upload to YouTube and Flickr, period? Etc.
All of these are things Helio had before anyone else, including Sprint. Many remain Helio exclusive.
Nice try, though :)
Re: I thought sprint had Sprint Mobile Email...
Same service? /;| The slashphone article in the parent describes a simple email client made by SEVEN and offered by sprint, which has the ability to handle multiple email accounts. There's absolutely nothing "push" about that.
Helio's Ultimate Inbox now offers push on all POP/IMAP email accounts and Gmail, Yahoo!, AOL and Windows Live/Hotmail accounts. Not pull, timed or otherwise, but actual push.
BlackBerry offers a similar service, but you have to use RIM's middleware servers (and pay additional service fees ...
Re: re
Oh lord. When are all the armchair analysts going to stop with the amp'd comparisons? Amp'd didn't have a parent company willing to throw down $5 Billion dollars to invest in Sprint, for starters. Helio isn't expected to turn a profit for a few years yet and, with a deep-pocketed parent intent on building a presence in the US market, Helio doesn't have to.

Series 40 is not based on Symbian OS. It is based on a closed operating system that is proprietary to Nokia (which they call ISA or "Intelligent Software Architecture"). Nokia licenses Series 40 to a couple of specialty manufacturers (Mobiado, etc.), but no volume manufacturer besides Nokia uses Series 40.
Re: S60, 3rd edition
The N80 was developed for Cingular, and should be available from them in February/March. There's been speculation that Cingular recently decided to drop the N80 from its lineup because it lacks HSDPA (i.e. faster WCDMA), but that's unconfirmed.
Re: what the heck is UIQ?
UIQ is a user interface that runs on top of Symbian OS.
UIQ stands for User Interface Quartz, and was created by Symbian as one of the three original UI reference designs (Quartz for pen-based PDAs, Pearl for one-handed smartphones, and Crystal for communicators with keyboards). The other two reference designs never made it into a production device.
Nokia has created its own user interfaces that run on top of Symbian OS, including Series 60 (recently re-named S60), Series 80 ...
