If their plans were as cheap as Tmobile or Sprint, then you could expect the same network coverage you get from both...which is virtually none.
When comparing plans to AT&T, they are virtually the same and both have data requirements.

If the balloons had our info printed on them, it would be different. They are plain balloons to get attention.
If someone comes in with kids, we have no problem giving them balloons or old dummy phones. It's the ones who just take it that tick me off.

I have one who is a doctor and he has been coming to the store for several years. He has NEVER purchased a phone.
He comes in when something is near end-of-life and wants it free without a rebate. Most of the phones still have rebates long after we stop carrying them here.

The thing that shoots down your theory is that every carrier offers the add-a-line option and every rep looking for activations will suggest it to a customer in similar situations. The carriers encourage adding lines any way that is even remotely legit. As long as the customer realizes what they are signing and paying for, its their decision and choice.

While I was selling a phone and had a bunch of accessories on the counter ready to go, my coworker just told her customer to go her her memory card, card reader, and car charger at RadioShack because its cheaper.
My customer looked at me and asked if that was true then decided not to get ANY accessories because she wanted to check the RS price. I even offered a discount but no go. I know ...

It really seems to me like it might be a hardware issue, but they would have to update you to V06 before they would consider a swap. Tell them what's wrong when you take it in. Get the update. If it doesn't fix it, take it back. The FRUs still have warranty and if they keep crapping out, get a Multi-FRU. The Versa seems cool so far...

Yeah. I have suggested many times that when a customer comes in for ANYTHING check the account to see if you can sell them a phone. Look for upgrades, add-a-line, etc, even if they come in asking for a charger, bill pay, etc. Some people don't know what they can get. If they come in for a bill pay, sell them a charger, etc. Look for any way to make money and still help ...

So I at least got some contracts on this morning, but my coworkers are botching EVERYTHING in the door.
Customer was eligible for an annual on an aircard. Lost his card. Had insurance. Could have gotten a new card for less than the deductible (after rebate) and the coworker walked them saying insurance was a better deal. Being 3rd party, we would have made a good amount on the deal.

I greatly prefer being busy. Day does go by faster. Even if most of the people coming in are there for problems, you might be able to sell them phones, accessories, or features. If nobody comes in, I don't have a chance to try.

I've been told by several reps that they can take the number in to the agent line system, but if you leave, you lose the number once they find out you don't work for the agent anymore. So, port in, but no port out. That's what I've been told anyhow. You never really know until you actually see it done.

There is or at least was a Motorola training site (mymotorola.com maybe?) that you could order dummy phones from. They were much cheaper than what VZW wanted us to pay. Some were only $5 compared to $35. Recently, my IDR has been able to get me phones. Did you ask your rep?
I agree that management sounds harsh, however, they should be going after the morons on the clock when that many dummy phones ...
