Yeah it's like an airline merger- it'll take forever but they'll get there!

Makes sense. Am I right to think that regardless of whether Sprint chooses LTE on it's own, that the merged company will eventually be all LTE (or whatever TMo chooses), rather than a hybrid of the two networks?

What's the scoop on the Sprint merger rumors?

Just seeing if anyone here has anything they can comment on, whether this is just posturing or if the merger talk is serious ot in advanced stages.

Wouldn't it best/easiest to check with your employer on this? Forgive me for sounding like an a** but I'd think that they would know better than TMo CSR's would. As in, you go to the benefits people and they say "yes, we have a special deal for people who want to use T-Mobile. Go this site xxx and do this". Or they may have a special number to call at TMo to get things set up, but a generic ...

I'd say that's a pretty telling endorsement of TMo! (Inasfar as someone who works for VzW probably has the scoop on any particular advantages Vz might offer)

Question about breaking off from family plan
Feb 5, 2010, 12:09 PM
in the T-Mobile forum

Here's my situation: the last couple years, the rents have been on a family plan to allow unlimited calling between the 3 of us. However, neither of them thinks they get good service at home, and my Mom says she also doesn't get service at her office. Long story short, the reason they switched to Tmo was that it was either that or Verizon where I went to college. Anyway, that is no longer an issue, but I have ...

Exactly! That's the one reason I'm hesitant to jump ship yet, because Tmo service and plans, not to mention customer service, are pretty good.

Yeah, I'm considering going to AT&T so I can take advantage of more Nseries phones with 3G

Ugh. Thanks for the info! I've always used Nokias since I really like them, but TMo hasn't had a decent one since the 6263 came out (which I still use), and now I'm definitely looking to step up to a smartphone (hence NSeries), so now I'm in a quandary.

Is the Nokia N900 coming or no?

Haven't seen any new buzz in a while on this...I'm hoping for this one (unless Tmo has another Nokia with legit 3g). Obviously I know i can get unlocked for $500, but figured I'd see if they may actually bring it on at some point.

Fear the Cubans is right; they will want to verify their own network. If they don't find anything wrong with your local tower(s) then you may be SOL. But perhaps you'll luck out and there will be a problem they will find and fix.

Re: Which one would you prefer
Nov 1, 2009, 2:38 PM
in the T-Mobile forum

I would say that is this essentially a personal decision - do you prefer having a cheaper plan, or would you like to take advantage of cheap phones? For instance, if you want to use a hot new unlocked phone that TMo doesn't carry, then you might want to go with the cheaper plan option, whereas if you just want a phone that works and don't care then the discounted phone might work well for you. It just all ...

Sounds like that could be a coverage issue. The way you describe it, it sounds like everything has been controlled for -- the phone, SIM, etc., so it could well be that you're using it in an area with weak TMo service.

Re: Not Sure???

I think it's so that they prevent consumers from being fickle about their plans, changing every couple months or so. In the past I want to say I've read on here stuff to the effect that it's more an issue of not wanting you to decrease your plan -- as in they're obviously not complaining if you upgrade to a bigger plan, but they want to keep you from downgrading if possible.

Your guess is as good as mine

AFAIK from the brief article I read, I would imagine this would be like the other N-series models, which is to say that TMo (or any other US carrier for that matter) will likely not carry it, and we will just have to use it unlocked. This is just fine with me since all we need to do is sign up for internet and get the settings and we are good to go.

Will the Nokia N900 (Q4'09) be 3g on Tmo?
Sep 8, 2009, 12:24 PM

According to the specs of the phone, it does offer WCDMA 1700/2100, so does this mean that I can finally get an N-series that will be 3g on Tmo?

Broken charger port
Jul 28, 2009, 9:37 AM
in the LG VX-8500 Chocolate forum

So my GF got in a fight with her sis and her sis grabbed the phone and threw it, in the process ripping the charger out (it was plugged in at the time). She found the male connecter embedded into the phone's charger port, and after getting that out she cannot get the phone to charge anymore (leading us to the assumption that somehow the pins or something were damaged). Is there a way to fix this? The only ...

Any AWS Nokia phones in the pipeline?
Jul 1, 2009, 6:08 PM

I'm pretty much resigned to waiting until the cows come home for Nokia to release Nseries with AWS compatibily, so any news on the rumored "Qwerty Nokia AWS phone" I heard about on here a while back, or any others in the pipeline?

Any word on the "upcoming QWERTY Nokia"?
May 31, 2009, 1:43 PM
in the T-Mobile forum

I saw this phone mentioned a while back as soon to come to Tmo; seeing if anyone knows which one it is at this point. I know there is the 5730 I think it is that has the twin in the E75(?) and that looks nice, but not sure if that is the one which Tmo will carry.

3g on Nokia 6263
May 12, 2009, 8:55 PM
in the T-Mobile forum

I just remembered that my trusty old 6263 is 3g capable, which means I will finally be able to take advantage of it this summer while in DC and this fall once they turn on the Columbus 3g network. However, it occurred to me that there doesn't seem to be much point in offering 3g speeds for a device that can only do the stripped down, mobile internet. The way I see it, having 3g on this thing, even ...

How long before we will see Nseries w/ 1700
Apr 20, 2009, 1:41 PM
in the T-Mobile forum

Since right now it seems that the handful of AWS phones are mid-range (I have a 6263 that has been a good soldier for a year and a half now, but I want to jump up to a 5800 or Nseries device).

Is it worth waiting out T-Mobile?
Apr 17, 2009, 9:49 AM
in the T-Mobile forum

Evence once TMo continues to roll out 3g coverage, are there many phones able to support AWS/1700Mhz? From what I can tell from trying to check out upcoming phones, there really does not seem to be much out there (and there are of course only a handful available now). Given that the 1700 spectrum is, AFAIK, unique in the world, is it worth "hoping and praying" for more phones that support AWS or should I just bite the bullet ...

Clarification on how 3g works
Apr 15, 2009, 5:03 PM
in the T-Mobile forum

I've seen a couple forum posts saying things to the effect that a phone needs both 3g bands to function --- is this true? The reason I ask is that I am waiting for the Nokia N97, but it only runs 900/1900/2100, so no dice if both bands are required. Or is it just that Tmo runs 1700 in some areas and 2100 and others? If the latter is the case, I spend my time between DC, Columbus, and ...

Apr 12, 2009, 10:06 AM

I couldn't have put it better myself. Although, I might add as well the Nokia N Series example (and if other manufacturers have similar lines) where they produce mainstream phones for the masses (available at the coveted subsidized, sometimes "free", price) and then make very high performance and feature-packed phones (the N models) available unlocked, bypassing the network carriers. The whiners just want to get cheap/free phones, hence why the carriers won't provide "nice/cool" phones (eg, it would be stupid ...

Can data plans be used for multiple devices?
Apr 1, 2009, 9:36 PM
in the T-Mobile forum

Specifically, can I use both the upcoming Tmo 3g modem (for my laptop) and a Nokia N-series (which would be the original device on the data plan)? From reading the info on the 3g modem, I can't tell whether they require a separate plan just for the modem itself.

I believe not....but don't quote me on that
Mar 26, 2009, 12:17 AM
in the T-Mobile forum

As I recall, when I looked into this same possibility with my Nokia, the answer was no. However, I do remember in legacy Nokia PC Suite versions the ability to do what you're describing, although I never tried it out. Also, there may be operator-imposed restrictions somehow on this. Even though it would set you back some more cash, there is the new Tmo 3g modem available, which you could conceivably use on 2g Tmo networks as well.

Me neither

Can't complain about the new loyalty discount rate plans either

And anecdotally, even though I've only been with them for 4 years, I have to say that I don't have any of the problems that all my friends with VzW and Sprint have. AT&T seems pretty good, but I always hear something weird coming from Vzw customers.

Although it wont be 3g

Tmo uses 1700/2100 I believe for WCDMA 3g coverage, so if thats true then the 5800 won't be 3g on Tmo.

Which 3g spectrum is Tmo really on?
Mar 6, 2009, 1:07 PM
in the T-Mobile forum

I've seen stuff that says Tmo uses 1700 only, both 1700 and 2100, and that it is 1700 but somehow there is "a little extra" around 2100? Trying to figure out which it is...

Great, thanks for the info!

Internet plan w/ unlocked smartphone
Feb 28, 2009, 12:12 PM
in the T-Mobile forum

I'm a little confused regarding TMo's internet plans -- if I get an unlocked smartphone (likely some member of the Nokia Nseries family) do I sign up for the "smartphone" or just the plain ol' internet plan they list on their site? I realize I may still have to enter settings and such since it is not a TMo-native phone, but just want to make sure I'm looking at the right plan.

With all due respect, if I were an expert like you guys I wouldn't have asked the question

I was referring to the "techie nerd" aspect of being in to stuff that isn't necessarily bread and butter, critical functionality (eg, 3G is nice but is ultimately a bonus not a necessity)

Is it a money issue or is that just their market strategy - to stay 2G?
