You're comparing the iPhone to a Blackberry? The Blackberry is a business tool, the iPhone is a toy. There is no comparison.

You get $100 off a PDA if you sign up for the unlimited data plan, right? Well, I want to upgrade one line, but then move the PDA to another line. So the data plan/phone wouldn't be on that line more than about a day. It would even be on a different account, although still my name. Would I still get the $100 off?

The iPhone is set up for Edge, I hate to point out that Edge is SLOW. Fine for a standard phone, but extremely disappointing for smartphones or advance devices. I guess it's because Cingular's 3g network is so small. It's a good thing it has WiFi, it's going to need it. But then again, if you can't download apps over the air, I guess WiFi will only be good for browsing. I'm not sure I agree on ...

I like LG better

I have had the LG6100, LG8100, LG 9800 (V), Mot E815 and Samsung 950. I upgraded my daughter's 6100 to the Samsung 950 and she hated and demanded her 6200 back, it so I tried it out. I have to say, the LG6100 gets a phenomanally better signal than the Samsung does. I hated the E815, nice signal but I found it to be unreasonably complex. My V gets a better signal than the LG8100, but ...

I have always been impressed by salespeople who are giving more than just a pitch why I should choose one product over another. Have passion, have a testimony, you need to truly believe in the product you're selling. Excitement over the superiority of one thing over another is contagious. For many customers what you say isn't as important as how you say it. For those who pride themselves on their intelligence and education, the numbers ...

I agree, I didn't notice the red bar until several people complained about it. I do miss the alarm feature LG had on some of their other phones, being able to simply set a 10 min alarm quickly was nice, but I'll live. I am looking forward to finally talking my mother in law into giving up her nokia and getting a regular phone simply because of the similar menus on all of them. She calls ...

I got an answer and thought I'd share: Re: Is Verizon's 'crippled' BT immune to bluesnarfing? by Don.Mike Yesterday, 4:49 PM i've talked to a tech about this, and they confirmed with me that verizons implementaion of bluetooth will prevent this activity. not necessarily people getting into the phone, but making calls or sending texts (bluesnarfing) or downloading your data (bluesnatching), same as how you can't use your bluetooth ...

I understand about the bill, my last one just came to a bit over $400. Just the same, I don't have a lot of time, or patience, for TV anymore. I catch the news from the internet so I can glance over it quickly. I used to watch the Daily Show, but just really haven't had much time. I enjoy being able to catch the high points on Vcast. I've never seen the Colbert Report on TV, just ...

Are there different text/picture packages for different parts of the country? I thought the highest package with unlimited in network texting only had 500 allowed for out of network and it's $15. I hope this is true, I'd love to see a 2500 out of network with unlimited in network text & picture package. (I know a young lady who is in a bit of trouble right now because the top package is only 500.)

That doesn't have to be a virus, it's bluesnarfing and you can be over a mile away from the person invading your phone. I posted a question on this and the tech board to try to see if anyone knows for sure whether the crippling of Verizon's bluetooth will prevent bluesnarfing. I heard about it over a year ago, so I keep the bluetooth turned off on my phone. I don't keep credit card numbers in there, ...

My sister works for Tmobile (and I stubbornly refuse to return to Tmobile after multiple billing & service issues) so I tend to get an earful of cellular technology rants and raves. Wow, I'm having a flashback! I left Sprint because of ongoing billing issues. The occasional problem crops up with any carrier, it's how it's handled by customer service that counts. By the way, same problem with T-mobile. They transposed two numbers when posting my payment one month and left me with about $0.35 past due - they suspended my service. I had to fax a copy of the check - with the correct amount - showing ...

Is Verizon's 'crippled' BT immune to bluesnarfing?

I've never complained about Verizon crippling the bluetooth because I recall the ScreenSavers show on techTV where these individuals demonstrated bluesnarfing. See the link: http://loosewire.typepad.com/blog/20 04/08/welcome_to_long ... Does anyone know if Verizon bluetooth is truly immune to this? I tried the Verizon board, but I think a tech needs to answer this.

I apologize to anyone who already knew this, but I decided I'd better share the info for those who didn't. I hate to condone purchasing General Clark's phone records to make a point, but it worked. The carriers' lawsuits didn't stop the practice, the federal government is the only one that could stop this. Pity it took a decade for someone to drive the point home that this is wrong. One of the articles mentioned lawyers were one of the major buyers of these records, a significant percentage of politians started as lawyers. I'm not a ...

Several people I know would love it if you could have a phone number from the east coast and west coast share minutes on the same account rather than have the ...

I can't help thinking in many ways this would be a good idea, it may drive down the price of the phones a bit if a manufacturer doesn't have to program the same phone for three different carriers. However, I'm concerned about the impact it will make on customer service. If I buy a Sprint phone, and put it on a Verizon account, I have no chance of getting tech support on the phone. Verizon employees, whether it be ...

Well, if the federal government won't put a stop to it, it looks like the carriers will make an attempt. Too bad it will not work in the long run. Cingular filed against locatecell.com yesterday. I gather both Cingular and Verizon have filed lawsuits against various companies for this sort of thing. The problem I see is the carriers are getting stuck with court costs (which of course get passed along to us eventually) and ...

paying the ETF up front?
Jan 18, 2006, 2:51 PM

Why? Why pay $175 up front so you could leave at any time when you can just pay it if you do actually choose to leave. If you pay up front and don't leave, you've just given away $175 for no reason. As for signing up with your own phone without a contract - it's called prepay. The contract on the 'post pay' accounts is for the lower rates. Have you compared the rates for ...

Lying to a business to get this info already is a crime - fraud. Social engineering I think. The new legislation they want isn't to stop the calls to the carriers, its to make it illegal to sell the records. That will force it underground so it isn't usable in court anymore. One of the articles on this said lawyers are the biggest market. If they can't use the records in their case, what's the point? ...

People can put passwords on their VZW accounts. If you can't verify the password, then you have to go to a store and show id to change it. You don't get to 'fall back' to the last four of the ssn. I've had accounts with all four major carriers at some point, plus AT&T, all verified the last four of my ssn. I didn't even think about it being a problem until now.

Re: what's the point? just restrict an LG

On an LG6100, and some of the other LG's and Samsungs via Verizon, you go to system, then security - enter your lock code (last 4 of your phone number unless you've changed it) and go to restrict. You choose to Restrict calls. On the LG, it shows "*Restricted*" across the main screen, and if you try to call a number not already programmed into the phonebook, it says phone is restricted. Note- it does not restrict txt ...

That's better than the Asurion insurance then. For a lost/stolen phone it's a refurbished unit that you get back. A friend of mine got one that had the programming flashed on it, it was really a hassle. The phone didn't say Verizon on the front but when you turned it on it did on the screen. Verizon couldn't activate it though because the esn wasn't in the range provided for VZW from Kyocera. I gather if ...

I was with AT&T for years until I had a billing problem. Nightmare to fix something simple. Their service in my area was fine, so there wasn't a motivation to switch until the fourth time I had to call customer service. Then I switched to VZW and have been fine since. With the exception of insurance if you want it. VZW offers insurance on new phones purchased through direct channels. Indirect dealers generally can't offer the insurance option, although a few like Best Buy and Car Toys have their own insurance plans you can purchase. Also, even in a VZW store, you can only add insurance within 15 days of purchase. After that, the insurance companies won't accept it.

Re: Can I use my cell phone as modem of fax machine?
Nov 24, 2005, 7:50 AM

You can use most VZW phones as a modem, but I don't know about hooking it up to a fax machine. The phone would have to be capable of handling the type of data used by the fax. I'm curious if anyone has a definitive answer on this one. Perhaps go to Circuit City where they have the phones and the faxes on display (I'm sure one employee has an activated cell) and tell them to ...

Ok, so it's a "Shrek phone" and may appeal to little ones. My 7 year old has an LG6100. I can restrict outbound calls to the phonebook only (which I programmed and is also locked) so how is the Migo better? Its the same price, a pain to program (have you read the manual on this?) and more restrictive than a regular phone. If you reprogram the emergency button, how is the FCC, with their drive ...

Re: Sam 950 - dropped calls & leather case
Nov 24, 2005, 1:53 AM
in the Verizon forum

I'm not worried about a case for simply physically dropping the phone. What I'm thinking, from the current replies, is that the case may prevent you from interfering with the internal antenna by the way the phone is being held. I've never known an internal antenna to be quite that fussy, but I've only had Nokia and LG in the past, so perhaps it's a Samsung thing.

Sam 950 - dropped calls & leather case
Nov 23, 2005, 3:16 PM
in the Verizon forum

I keep hearing the Samsung 950 is a great little phone except that it tends to drop calls. I also heard an interesting rumor that having it in a case enhances the signal and reduces the dropped calls. I can't see the mechanism behind this, but I thought I'd ask some of you out there who have one. True or not?

VZW voicemail in Extended Network
Nov 10, 2005, 11:04 AM
in the Verizon forum

The in-network calls may not apply in extended area because the cell towers do not belong to VZW, however, the billing system does seem to pick them up at least sometimes and apply them. Also, txt usually works but may not on some out of network towers, and voicemail is a challenge. The voicemail system is just a computer, it's not associated with your handset at all. When someone leaves a message, the system tries to send ...

Re: blocking numbers from cell phones???????
Nov 10, 2005, 1:46 AM
in the Shop Talk forum

As far as I'm aware you can't block callers on a wireless network. What would be the point? They find out they're blocked, then block their number from showing and it comes up as unavailable, same problem ensues. I tell people to add the number to their phonebook under "do not answer" and change the ring to a single beep. They then don't answer/use minutes. Then they can fast fwd through any voice mail left and ...
