I remember many years ago at AT&T this kid came in trying to activate a Blackberry. After looking up the IMEI it looked like it was still activated on a corp Lockheed Martin account. I remember at the time just shaking my head. He was asking me how to unlock the Blackberry and I explained to him that I couldn't because it was controlled by the BES. Anyway, long story short kids are still gonna steal phones and light ...

NFC vs TouchStone Technology
Jun 13, 2011, 8:09 AM
in the Article: HP Eying NFC for Future Phones forum

I know those are buzzwords but I recall reading about touchstone using a slightly lower frequency and power than NFC. If this is the case I'm curious as to if the Pre3 was delayed to incorporate some new TouchStone/NFC tech. That is most likely wishful thinking as I doubt they'd ever change a product so late to final spec. I think both of these technologies have mass appeal as I'd love to be able to data with friends by ...

This will be interesting to see how the TouchStone technology that HP (Palm) has and if it is different than the Qi technology. A wider adoption of wireless charging means we all win.

webOS on this device seems incredibly snappy. Did you notice if the contact list still has the loading issue that plagued the first Pre? I really like how smooth the interface seems and how responsive it seems when touched.

Considering the target demographic they are going after, I wouldn't be surprised if they were. They don't really seem to be the kind of phone to compete with a $200 on contract android phone, and considering that it will most likely be parents throwing down the cash for these things I could see the possible price range being 50-75 for the one and 150 for the two.

Color me impressed. I'd have to say that I'm happy Microsoft is taking the bold steps needed to assure quality across its mobile platform. The hardware requirements and desire to leave the visuals of WP7 intact will help quality and consistency. Even if you don't agree that the interface is pretty or usable or whatever, you have to commend Microsoft for developing a solid product and standing firmly behind it. I'm a little excited to finally see some shake ...

Oh I totally forgot to add this but my money would be on either Google or Comcast. I'd say Google only because it's a shot in the dark and what I hope (even though it's probably completely improbable) and I'd say Comcast because for the past 2 years Comcast has been talking non-stop about how they want to get into wireless. Comcast has so much cash in hand they would probably be the ones to do it... and I ...

Why AT&T won't put down the cash to buy T-Mob...
Feb 7, 2010, 7:31 PM
in the Article: Deutsche Telekom Considering T-Mobile USA Spin-Off forum

I seriously don't think ATT would consider buying T-mo for several reasons. First of all, att has been doing a major major backend overhaul to prepare their network for LTE, which will conveniently help them finish the 3G rollout. By doing so will put enough fiber lines to cell sites to not have to upgrade cell site bandwidth again until after LTE. Second, even though att has more than enough cash on hand, I think the network integration between att ...

Hai gaiz, I wonder what the map is actually based on? I remember back in the day we used to hear a lot about 1x and Rev. A, but is this map to assume Verizon's entire network is Rev. A? Or do they still count areas with 1x as 3G (which it technically is) as opposed to excluding EDGE on the at&t map? I guess this is a convoluted post asking this: (these are all generalities based on speed/performance) 1x = ...

ATT does not support it, but as far as I know, ATT does not block any ports on the data transfer, so if it connects only as a data call to another phone with the same protocol, it might work. As of now, the only type of video calling ATT offers is Video Share, which is not really the same thing.

The worst part about this phone is that it will most likely sell really well on Verizon. Then more companies will make crappy detachable phones like this. next thing we know Nyko will make a keyboard attachment for the iPhone. This is the beginning of the end.

It would seem like if they wanted to sell a service that you can't really get anywhere else (except skype or something) they would of just put a webcam it in to help sell them to multiple sets of people. most likely they will never officially partner, but what will happen is they will release a full quad band gsm/tri band hsdpa version for europe/rest of world and just pick it up unlocked for some outrageous sum of dollars. almost looks worth it. and this really makes nokias latest line of phones look pretty bad. :(

Ovi is just such an amazing concept I'm surprised that major carriers haven't adopted something similar... but then again i guess its because they always just do the bare minimum to retain customers. Why should this be illegal? I feel that if anything, the airlines should just say "Hey this is not allowed." Does it have to be such a horrible act as to justify it being a crime? Are we so irresponsible as a nation that we cannot self regulate ourselves when it comes to such a trivial matter? I don't understand why something like this needs to be written in law, it should just be a rule of the airlines. Next thing you ...

I could see this being useful, but wouldn't a very lightweight desktop version of BBmessenger make more sense. I remember when I used to sell the 'ol BB's and I'd always say IM is a great way to stay in touch with a secretary or someone while you are in a meeting, but I don't really know of any companies that us windows live messenger. I think they used windows mobile because it has a lot of things built into it that they could just build on top of (example being the HTC touch). I think they just are using windows to give the phone a more full rounded functionality and maybe even business like applications. Also by it having windows mobile makes it the anti iPhone. I for one welcome this new "jesus phone" to our world.

not that i like verizon or anything, but their new fall lineup looks really sweet. vx10,000 alone. jesus, just 10,000 as a model number. motorola has a long way to catch up from the v3. only v9997 more phones. but seriously, those aren't smartphones except the pearl, which sucks anyway. maybe see if you need a new simcard. signal will fluctuate, but usually not that. maybe if you are covering up the antenna or something(which im sure you're not) it could cause a problem like that. i live up in flagstaff/tucson and never really had that problem unless i had no signal. it would go from no signal to a couple bars and back, but its like the phone is trying really hard to get a signal but ...
