Why I returned the Droid 2.
Sep 7, 2010, 9:43 PM
in the Motorola Droid 2 forum

The Droid 2 is an awesome device but as many have stated, some of the additions are downgrades from the original Droid. Coming from a fully modded/overclocked Droid 1, it is difficult to be impressed with the Droid 2. The Droid 2 felt like a first run software device that managed to suffer in the following areas: -Battery life is pathetic and manages to be worse than the Droid 1. -After 2-3 weeks with the phone, nearly every app lags. -Flash support ...

What does this mean?
Nov 11, 2009, 12:30 PM
in the Article: Hands-On: Saygus V1 VPhone forum

They say "open development". Does this mean that they will FINALLY allow non-VZW branded handsets onto their network, or does it simply mean that they will only allow certified non-branded phones onto their network? I can't see the Saygus selling all that well considering the Droid is probably a better phone, can be more heavily subsidized, and is supported by Verizon.

Re: Barrage temporarily pulled from inventory

in the Motorola Barrage V860 forum

The phone is now available under the Push To Talk tab on VerizonWireless.com. The defective version was Hardware Revision B, and now they are shipping HARDWARE VERSION C which has corrected the speaker issues. Reviews have been very positive of the phone with the new hardware revision. You can check the phone upon arrival and as long as it says HW Rev. C on the barcode strip under the battery, you're all set

I've heard from several sources online that the phone will be re-launched on October 26 online. Hopefully by that time, the earpiece issues will have been fixed. I have high hopes for this phone.

Barrage temporarily pulled from inventory
Oct 8, 2009, 11:27 PM
in the Motorola Barrage V860 forum

Apparently the early reports of earpiece issues on the Barrage were part of a widespread problem, and Verizon is now saying they cannot order the phone until the problems are fixed. Hopefully, Motorola gets it right this time and the Barrage is re-released shortly. Aside from the earpiece, the reviews of the phone seem favorable. If they get the earpiece fixed, this phone is going to be amazing.

Re: It needs some work- not ready for launch

in the Motorola Barrage V860 forum

It has the Motorola UI with a Verizon skin over it. If you select the "Steel" display theme, you get a modern version of the Motorola UI. You can also rearrange and choose what icons to have in your main menu like the old Moto UI did. Apparently, you can read text messages from the front screen too. It seems like a great phone. As for the earpiece volume problem, some people are having the problem while others are ...

Lack of Moto support and proper updates!
Mar 3, 2009, 11:33 AM
in the Motorola Krave ZN4 forum

I've had this phone since October, and basically I feel the Krave is an unfinished product. What's incredible to me is that we've had 2 minor updates since release and they have done NOTHING to fix the major gripes: 1. No speed dials 2. No customizable shortcuts from the external flip 3. No way to recalibrate the touch screen 4. Sometimes the touch screen loses responsiveness altogether for no reason, like while texting, or when you get a message and go to hit View ...

Re: What's with the size of phones now?
Oct 26, 2008, 7:34 PM
in the Verizon forum

The Motorola Vu30 is a very small phone that's fairly well loaded with features. It's nice to see a phone that makes full use of its size. The screen is still 2.2 inches which is plenty for most users, the keypad buttons look different but give great feedback, and are work well for big fingers. It may not have the qwerty keyboard, or the fancy touch screen, but it functions very well as a a phone first. For the touch fanatics, ...

E-mail trick works
Oct 25, 2008, 1:03 PM
in the Motorola Rapture VU30 forum

Here is what I did: Opened a 23 second MP3 in Windows Media Player, saved the file with .qcp at the end of the name. Some have reported that you can just keep the file as an MP3 but I can't confirm that. The ringtone MUST NOT be larger than 300 kb. I then e-mailed the ringtone to my10digitnumber@vzwpix.com. It didn't work the first time, so I kept repeating and the third try worked flawlessly. Verizon appears to be filtering ...

Re: New Phone Time
Aug 31, 2008, 5:05 PM
in the Verizon forum

I would recommend the Motorola V750. It is marketed as a Push-To-Talk phone, but you are NOT required to add PTT to your plan. Everyone has stated that the V750 offers outstanding reception and sound quality. Battery life is poor with PTT enabled, but I know people who declined PTT, disabled it in the menus and are now getting excellent battery life.

Verizon dropped the V9m as well
Aug 31, 2008, 5:01 PM
in the Motorola RAZR2 V9m forum

Verizon has 3 new Motorolas due out within the next few months and my guess is that Verizon, along with Alltel decided to make room. The new Motorolas include: **Vu30**: Slim phone that resembles the GSM U9 that you can look at here. It will have a stylish glossy housing like the V9m and KRZR with touch sensitive icons on the front screen. The phone is much narrower than the V9m, so it may be favorable to many. It is ...

Re: Backlight on Adventure keypad- info needed, please!
Aug 29, 2008, 2:49 AM
in the Motorola Adventure V750 forum

My guess is they used a similar white light as to what was used on the Motorola V710. There are "hot spots" for the light and buttons that are further from the lights are not as bright. The RAZR, KRZR, MAXX, and possibly the V9m use a different kind of lighting which is even throughout but Motorola seems to be phasing that out again. I wouldn't worry about it though.

Re: Boulder vs. V750 Adventure
Aug 1, 2008, 12:38 AM
in the Motorola Adventure V750 forum

I'm honestly considering the V750 for a relative of mine who has a RAZR that has been dropped one too many times, and is starting to act up. I'm hoping to pick something a little more rugged for him while maintaining a relatively thin profile. He is used to the Moto UI with huge menu fonts, and easy to see icons so the improved UI and large fonts make this a very tempting option. The Boulder is not a ...

Boulder vs. V750 Adventure
Jul 30, 2008, 11:23 PM
in the Motorola Adventure V750 forum

I've used both in the store, and I can't say for certain that one is clearly better than the other. The V750 is a big phone, and the Boulder is really big, so if you're coming for a KRZR or Juke, you're in for some adjustment with either phone. Each one excels in different ways. STYLE: Tie. The Boulder has more aggressive styling which I consider eye catching, however the V750 is sleeker, slimmer, and less bulky. SCREEN: V750. The ...

Re: Caller ID, typical of Verizon UI
Jun 8, 2008, 7:50 PM
in the Motorola W755 forum

This is actually a common thing on the Verizon UI. Most LG's and Samsungs that use the postage stamp sized external screens show caller ID in this manner. The RAZR and KRZR have a centered caller ID only because they use Motorola's external screen caller ID application (it's actually controlled by the Motorola skin files). However, the W755 uses a newer version of the Verizon UI which in many respects has more Motorola elements, but in a few notable ...

Re: Non-Verizon OS Version??
Jun 2, 2008, 1:15 AM
in the Motorola W755 forum

The W755 is running a new version of the Verizon UI that incorporates elements of the Moto UI. No more red bars and you can finally choose between grid, list, and tabbed menus. Although, Moto MAY release this on other carriers, the slight differences may not make it worth the hassle to go through the flashing process.

Re: 8350 or W755?
Jun 2, 2008, 1:11 AM
in the Motorola W755 forum

I'd take the Motorola W755 over the 8350 anyday. -Better reception -Better sound quality -Better build quality -Much more UI customization (choice of grid, list, and tabbed menus)

Nice improvement over the U540 from what I can tell.
Feb 22, 2008, 1:36 AM
in the Samsung SCH-U550 forum

I got to test the U550 out for about 20 minutes. The new user interface is exceptional giving you a choice of Grid, Tab, List menu styles. The flash animation is very clean and well designed. The phone looks and feels a sturdier than the U540. It's definitely not a WOW phone but it's a good size, seems to offer some good features and it looks very user friendly. This new user interface is also on the upcoming Motorola ...

V9m Keypad problems??
Dec 3, 2007, 1:28 AM
in the Motorola RAZR2 V9m forum

I have gone through 3 Verizon V9m's (getting the 4th), used 3 Sprint V9m's and an Alltel V9m, and probably tried out 20 or so more Verizon V9m's and a real problem in my opinion is the keypad. The MAJORITY of them are loose in one or more sections of the metal sheet making the keypad crunch, creak and/or wiggle when buttons are pressed. The rest of the phone is rock solid, so this is a real letdown. Verizon ...

MAXX > VX-8300
Jul 16, 2007, 2:00 AM
in the Motorola RAZR maxx Ve forum

I've compared the MAXX and 8300 side by side: The MAXX wins in the following areas: -Better reception -Better sound quality -Better screen -Better camera -Better speakerphone -Better build quality/materials The 8300 wins in the following areas: -Battery life slightly better -More customizable interface -Slightly faster menu speed I'd say the MAXX takes the cake where it really counts.

Carrier Availability
Jun 29, 2007, 3:42 PM
in the Motorola ROKR Z6m forum

Although I have not seen any firm release dates, it appears that Verizon will be getting the Z6tv, which looks just like the Z6m but will support V-Cast TV. Other carriers such as Alltel and Sprint will likely be getting the Z6m. Verizon's is said to run on the new black/green Verizon interface, while Alltel's will probably run the Synergy UI found on the KRZR or V9m. It should be interesting to see if and what Sprint does with ...

in the Motorola RAZR maxx Ve forum

PROS of V9m -Thinner -Use of ultra strong metal -Excellent appearance -Ability to read texts on the front screen -Verizon's new UI, Alltel's will have a vastly refined Moto interface PROS of the MAXX -Camera has a flash -Larger battery so probably better battery life -Less of a fingerprint magnet The MAXX seems like a more practical phone given that the flash makes the camera usable at night. This is probably its strongest asset. The MAXX also uses strong metals, however, it's rubber coated and some people can't tell.

I wanted to give an update. I'm now on MAXX #7. MAXX #5: -Flawless software (never once froze) -Hinge was perfect -Battery life issues -Totally different screen (color reproduction/brightness was different) -Keypad loosened up and buttons got mushy and crunchy MAXX #6 -The software froze everytime I picked up the phone -Every other pic/flix message caused the phone to reboot -Black screen appeared if receiving a text while in another menu -Hinge clicked when opened -Camera was not as good as others -The keypad on that one also started crunching/sticking -The keypad had ...

I'm very nice to the reps and I clearly show them why I'm concerned. At this point, I have one that freezes when I launch the camera, so I'm going to another store and asking about a replacement. If I have anymore problems, I'm going straight to Motorola to get it worked out. I seriously am getting frustrated. I like the phone a lot though and will give it one more shot before I throw in the towel.

The backlight for the main screen and outer screen are the same length I believe. Go to Settings and Tools, Display Settings, Backlight, then select you can set the backlight time for the display and keypad. I usually go for 30 seconds as "ALWAYS ON" would probably drain the battery pretty badly. The couple second delay when accessing the music player is normal. Enjoy your new phone:)

I've had the phone for nearly a month now and really enjoy it. The overall build quality, reception, sound quality, screen quality are great. That said, I've been through 4 of them and may be getting a fifth. There are major issues with quality control and I've never seen so many problems. Below you will find the problems I've encountered. Most have been directly related to the keypad or the hardware. MAXX #1 -Left soft key was messed up -Text messages would ...

I can confirm that there is no Vibrate then ring option in the menu, however, if this is a make or break issue, some LG users have found a solution. Put a silent gap at the beginning of the ringtone, and it will still vibrate during the gap. Essentially, you'd achieve the same goal. It may be a bit of a hassle, but for someone who wants Vibrate then Ring that much, it's a good idea.

After a day with this phone, I want to give my first impressions. After a few weeks with the phone, I'll post a thorough review. PROS: -The phone is very well built; Sturdiest phone I've seen from Verizon -The earpiece is very loud and clear -The speaker/speakerphone are very loud and clear -Reception seems to be slightly better than the V3m, which was great (can't judge by those odd signal bars) -The screens are incredibly bright and crisp -The font is cleaner in appearance than ...

Re: MOTOROLA and VERIZON UI -- what's the deal???
Apr 14, 2007, 8:24 PM
in the Verizon forum

From what I understand, Verizon created the new UI, NOT LG. However, it appears Verizon took cues from LG's former interface. I've also heard that Motorolas had more difficulty implementing the UI, hence the slowness and hybridized menus. The newer Motorola interface (which is suppressed by the Verizon UI) is actually very attractive and responsive. Even the LG VX-8700 interface is not as clean and refined as what's found on the Alltel RAZR or KRZR. As to why the ...

I know several people with this phone and reception seems to be very poor. In addition the outgoing sound quality is horrible. Supposedly this area is 1900 Mhz, so there shouldn't be a problem but the phone does not perform well at all. If you travel frequently, forget this phone. It looks great, has a stylish interface, a good camera, and it fits great in the pocket, but what good is it when it can't work well as a ...

in the Motorola V323 / V325 / V323i / V325i forum

A relative has had the V325 for awhile now and really likes it. I got to use it for a few weeks, and the call quality/reception is outstanding, build quality is awesome, and it's very stylish for a mid-range phone. I'd take the V325i any day over the other junk offered. The Samsung A870 and LG VX-5300 are decent, but they're not nearly as functional as phones and can't match the great screen on the V325i.

Re: Best reception??
Nov 26, 2006, 5:12 PM
in the Motorola KRZR K1m forum

May I recommend the Moto RAZR V3m instead. In my experience, the V3m is actually slightly better in terms of reception to the KRZR. In addition, if you're used to the menu layout on the E815, the V3m is much easier to adapt to. The V3m runs a hybrid Verizon/Motorola interface that has at least a few familiar elements to the E815. The KRZR interface has no similarities at all to the E815 and is slower than both the ...

in the Motorola RAZR V3m forum

by the way, using a data cable, Motorola Phone Tools, and Bitpim, I've successfully transferred Mp3's and JPEG's back and forth from the PC to phone. It's not as efficient as unrestricted Bluetooth but that's Verizon's doing so changing phones wouldn't do much. Once you get a data cable and get this software, it becomes much easier to transfer things back and forth. You may have to do a little research on how to get everything working though.

One thing I can tell you is that bars mean very little on the Verizon RAZR. Verizon's new standard menu system uses a 4 bar meter and ironically you can often make calls on 0 bars. The best way to judge signal is to see if you actually drop calls or see "no service" in weak spots. In my experience, the greatest Verizon phones for reception are the Motorola E815 and V325i. My V3m has gotten outstanding signal but ...

From what I'm told, the traditional V and E series are being phased out for the most part, and we'll be seeing more phones like the RAZR or PEBL. The only traditional form factor Motorola I know of coming soon is the V325i. It is said to be much like the V325 but with bluetooth. It may be a step down from the V710 as far as outer screen quality, and it has the Verizon UI, but it's built ...

Re: UI
Oct 3, 2006, 2:47 AM
in the Motorola KRZR K1m forum

The Verizon UI is admittedly simple to use, but the big differences are in customization and layout. The font size for the contacts and menus is quite small, which could be annoying. No longer are menus icon based as with previous Motorolas, but rather text only that you toggle left and right through. In addition, you can't change the color of the red bars across the top and bottom. The V710 allows 6-7 color choices so this may take ...

First check which software version you have. Go into menu > Settings & Tools > System or Device Info > S/W Version. If it says .08 or .09 or .09P at the end of the software version, you have old software, and really should take it to a Verizon store and have them load the new software. The new software ends in 1CP I believe and can be upgraded for free at a Verizon store. The new software is ...

If you want a phone with an easy to read outer screen, get the Motorola E815 or V325. Both put emphasis on being a phone first. On the E815, the outer screen is STN which is very easy to read in sunlight and lights up instantly after one press. Even in standby mode, the time displays in black and white. If you want to get back to basics entirely and have tri-mode, the V325 is an excellent phone. The ...
