Re: Internet compatability = Internet obligation?

You were in the right, 4tail. The replies you have received here have been pretty rude and misguided, unfortunately. Three points your readers might consider: 1. AT&T and other carriers intentionally make it easy to accidentally initiate data transfers, with their locked-down phone menus, prominent "connect" buttons, or etc. They do this to encourage the use of their data services in order to generate revenue. It's not in their interest to allow you full control over your phone. ...

Do you see a blur in your initial capture image, or just in the picture afterward? The image is clear in the initial capture and the thumbnails, which leads me to believe that this is a software glitch.

We have a V551 (Cingular, 09/2005), and about four in ten pictures we take are blurred. They look good in the initial screen (where the still image appears right after taking the pic) and in the thumbnails, but when we view the pictures from the gallery, some of them look wavy/blurry, as though the camera were spinning and wobbling when the shutter was open. They also have that blur effect when transferred to and viewed on another phone or ...

I deleted the Voice Signal voice recognition software app. using the application manager, but now when I play the voice tags I had recorded for my contacts, it just plays an empty tag for a split second. Trying to Delete or Change the tag for an existing contact starts to delete or to let me record a new tag, but then it warns "Voice system error" and doesn't work. The voice tags work just fine with newly created contacts, ...

When I first got my phone (with the buggy firmware/64mb sim card), it lasted exactly six hours +/- 2 min.) of talk time - while using HS-850 bluetooth headset. Both died right about the same time, in fact. I know, because I had a 6-hour conversation with my fiancee' when I got home from work that day. :-) (Thank goodness for unlimited M2M.) Now, it seems to last around 5 hours of talk time, and the ...

To get the firmware details on the 6682, you'd enter *#0000# - that might work, or it may be a different code for your phone. HTH

I'll tell ya what else, I hated the shape and feel of the 6620 (including the joystick - could snag on things). I got the 6682 and like its form factor a lot better.

Re: Continuation (of the digression) - Bad English

in the Shop Talk forum

I should have added that some people are going to be lazy (or jerks) no matter what the language is. But that's life. :P English is tricky. It's not necessarily the hardest to learn - that depends on what your native language is - but it's often more difficult for anyone to learn because it evolved from more than one language. (This is due in part to historical invasions of the British Isles ...

I have to back you up, Nikoletta. It's not just happening to you. I'm a college English teacher (college, mind you), and I have to deal with lazy, poor English all the time - and not just in writing, but in speech, too. Native speakers generally are the worst culprits. Non-native speakers of English generally know the "rules" of English a lot better than native speakers do. It's pretty depressing, really. As an aside: Yes, sometimes ...

Does the agreement apply to the 6102, then? Word has it that Cingy's getting those (clamshells) in Sept. 12-ish.

I was visiting phonescoop.com for a while before I noticed it had forums. Plus this forum's focused more on Cingular employee conversations, it seems, so you might have less of an audience for the question. You might try asking the question in forums for phones that are bluetooth-enabled, like the Moto V551 or the Nokia 6230 or etc. :)

Phones still send out brief signals - a sort of "ping" response - if I'm not mistaken. What are you basing your claims on, sdnyc?

See the "6230 STOP-SHIP!" thread in this forum: apparently, if I buy any of the 6230's currently available (and the stores in my area have now pulled their stock anyway), then I'll have a phone that crashes a lot. Not the ideal solution. :?

AshDizzle, thanks for taking the time to respond, but I need a response that is specific to what I was asking. I never said I was "being cheap about it;" so the straw-person fallacy is not needed. I *am* after a phone I'll be happy with. What I just want to know is if it would be smarter, financially, to wait and buy at full price the phone that I really want, to gamble that one ...

I've had reps in three different onground stores now tell me with confidence that they'll bring back the 6230, fixed. All false confidence, then? Or do they lack information that you have? (Just curious!)

Thanks for the replies. I spoke with a retail store rep (better service :) ) yesterday and was told the same thing - after 30 days, you're stuck with the phone you have unless you pay full price for a new one or get one elsewhere. Sooo... If I get a cheap/free phone with the family plan now, I'll save $240 over the life of the contract, which I can use to justify spending full price on a ...

Just speculation, here... but I don't think people are getting any more stupid or greedy than before; I think they're just getting trained not to value personal service as much as saving every last nickel. The mindset change seems to be coming from our economy's shift to more of an on-line, automated system. (Isn't this kind of thing happening with banking, too?) IMHO, if customers were required to get all their customer service from wherever they bought and ...

Cingular's pulling these due to crashes...
Aug 26, 2005, 9:09 PM
in the Nokia 6230 forum

Has anyone here had problems with the more recent 6230s crashing / locking up? Cingular isn't selling them anymore for now (see this thread: https://www.phonescoop.com/carriers/forum.p hp?fm=m&ff=4&fi=368479 ) because the newer phones are crashing - they have some kind of conflict with Cingular's service. What I'd like to know from you all is: 1. When did you get your 6230? 2. Did you, or are you, having lock-up problems with it? 3. If so, did you find a fix? Thanks a lot for your time!

I guess another question would be, is the Nokia 6230 that good (when it's not crashing)? It looks like the best combination for me of features and size/form factor, from what Cing. has available. Also, I like the bar form factor - my 8260 has been a very convenient pocket phone. However, I was told that it would be a bad idea to carry the 6230 it in a pocket because the TFT screen can get damaged easily. ...

After 30 days, is a new, reduced-price phone possible?
Aug 26, 2005, 8:48 PM
in the AT&T forum

Our TDMA contract just expired, and I want to get the $59.99 family plan before Sept. 1 (don't worry, someone at an onground store told me about the new rates coming out, too, so it's not just leaking on here). I really wanted to get the Nokia 6230, but apparently that would be a bad idea until they fix and re-release it. Can't say that I like the other phone options all that much, either. So, we're looking at the ...
