If the person on the receiving end of the call likes the pushed ringtone or animation, they will be presented with the option to purchase the tone. And what if they don't like the pushed crap, will they have an option to ban the tone or animation and/or caller? Ring jacking sounds onerous. I don't like hearing half of the conversation from loudmouths, as it is, let alone the Nextel beeps, and the other half of some inane conversation. The ...

"Objective reporting" is a rarity.
Aug 2, 2006, 12:58 AM
in the Verizon forum

It's a common problem on any forum. The careful consumer has to remember that much of what's written is subjective opinion and personal preference that the author usually mistakes for universal truth. There's a difference between an objective review weighing pros and cons, and condemning something merely because it doesn't meet another reviewer's needs or preferences.

Clicking the Show Missing Features link seems to indicate the phone has no speakerphone and no headphone jack. The latter seems a little weird. Looking at VZW's site, I can't find a headphone jack on the 360 view. Maybe like PCs shipping with no floppy drive, this is a BT-headset only phone? Seems odd. My main concern is good reception, followed by a decent battery. In this case, the LG is a disappointment. It doesn't seem ...

Firstly, Does a name really matter that much? More importantly, does it really matter whether or not it matters to anybody? That's a condition of whether or not you provide a box of chocolates story? Interesting. The word chocolate is not to be taken "literrally", although Verizon will in their ads. And just how will Verizon take the word literally? Will they tell us it's literally chocolate colored? Chocolate scented? Chocolate flavored? This will be ...

Check phonescoop's Missing Features. I like that it doesn't have a speakerphone. The general public is harassed by idiots and morons who lack common courtesy when using speakerphones in public. If it weren't illegal, I'd pimpslap every idiot and moron 'till they understood how to use the feature properly. Granted there are time that speakerphones are useful, but they're more of a convenience than a necessity. Now BT is a dealbreaker. No BT, no phone.

As a recap, I bought mine at Radio Shack, who appears to no longer be an AA of VZW. I had: 1) The same phone for over two year 2) A two-year contract, over $35 I paid $60 for this phone since RS honored my NE/discount. As a result of this purchase, VZW says I will be eligible for NE2 in two years, if I don't change phones. All of this is contrary to what many here have stated, and in accordance with VZW's ...

Circuit City a Corporate Store? And does it have the 6256i?
Feb 21, 2006, 2:47 AM
in the Nokia 6255i / 6256i forum

I got mine at Radio Shack, and it looks like they're no longer a VZW Authorized Agent. Checking VZW's site, I see CC listed as a VZW store, and not as an AA. But some people say they got their 6256i there, though I don't see it at their site. It is shown at Best Buy's site. (BB *is* listed as an AA.) (FYI, VZW says I *do* qualify for NE2, based on my renewal for two years at RS.) I'm ...

The 6256 ships with a 1070mAH battery, so any "extended" battery has to have a higher capacity, and by a significant amount to make any difference. And the 1070 is the only OEM battery shown for this phone. That 1200mAH battery may give a slightly longer talk time, but don't bet on it. But if the battery is well constructed, it's as good as or better value than the OEM battery at $40-$50. With the 6256 having an FM radio, and ...

chinabuddie, thanks for the additional information. Exactly what do you do to make a voice dial phone call with the Jabra and the Nokia? I've got some of my numbers tagged, but I don't see any menu item that would let me dial via a headset. Are there additional menus available only via BT? Thanks again for the info.

chinab, I've got a VZW 6256, but I haven't taken any pictures with it. I *have* sent files to my Nokia via my PowerBooks BT assistant. First one pairs two BT devices. In this case I used my PowerBooks BT Assistant app to find my Nokia, after using the phones menu to make it "Discoverable". One I paired them, it was just a matter of using my BT app to select and send the file to the phone. Once there, ...

What is your favorite BT headset? Are any of you using a headset that lets you make calls *without* opening or even touching the phone? I realize this means assigning voice tags to anybody you'll want to call. But as it is, I have to open the phone, unlike my old LG4400, and press and hold the button before I say the name. In one of the earlier posts, somebody said that the Nokia has an MP3 player, and calls can ...

6256i available at Radio Shack

I got a Radio Shack catalog (#652) over the weekend and it shows the 6256i for $59.99: With qualifying 2-year agreement. $259.99 without. I've used the OBEX functionality to transfer some files from my BT laptop to the phone. I've yet to get an MP3 to work as a ringtone, but that may be because it's too big. It's not a bad phone, but I think I'll be returning mine. The call quality is very good, as is the sensitivity (It gets ...

1) Can you use the speakerphone with the phone closed? 2) If you're on a call with a wired headset and the phone is closed, will the call end if the headset becomes unplugged? This happened occasionally on my 4400, but the call would still be in progress so when I plugged the headset back in, the caller was still there. On my Nokia, if the headset is unplugged (with the phone closed) the call is ended.

This was for old customers. I had my old phone for 3 years, so I was eligible for an upgrade discount, which is actually better than the NE2 that I'm eligible for from VZW.

I wonder if that is a slight change in VZW's policy. A few years ago, I wanted to use my NE2, but the rep told me that I had the phone more than long enough, but I wasn't under contract for the last 15 months, and therefore ineligible. I politely protested and got the NE2.

then the 6245i is the only one, Did you mean the 6255? Why is that the one? It seems all of VZW BT phones lack OBEX so that you have to use their service instead (without hacking). At any rate, I've got 30 days to see if I like this phone.

I checked one out at Best Buy (Dublin CA) and it seemed OK. There was no demo, but they opened one up. They wanted me to be very careful, because they didn't want a potential customer to think it was a "used" phone. Fare enough. They wanted $259 or somewhere near there, with no discounts, so I said "Adios". I picked one up at a local Radio Shack. While it's not NE2, the RS Guy looked ...

geo, I called BB and RS employees, and the Emeryville VWZ store, and they all said that I'd get the discount. This was all concerning walk-in B&M, not the online versions. They could all be clueless, but I hope that's not the case. I'll be prepared for a different story when I go in. what agents have ne2? Well, according to the Emeryville Store (Corporate Store, not a kiosk) Radio Shack and Best Buy can give me the NE2 discount. My local BB and RS told me the same thing. So far, they're all on the same page. No Verizon reps were able to confirm that the Nokia would be coming, and they all said that they had no word at all. Would the network or reception be any dif if I got it from the Verizon in Best Buy? would it really make a dif? I don't see why it would make any difference. It's branded as a Verizon phone, sold in an area with VZW coverage. Those who've posted as having one on VZW haven't mentioned any difference. I'm going to get one, and if there is a difference, I've got 14 days to return it.

You show conflicting signs of intelligence. You show no signs of intelligence. On the one hand, you sounded good talking about why there are phones Verizon only sells through agents. VZW already has "third-party"phones. Where is your evidence that these phones "didn't pass testing"? But then you ask the difference between NE2 and upgrading.... Yes, I did. And you failed to provide the answer. anyone with any knowledge about Verizon knows this difference. Well, not anyone. I've been a VZW customer for several ...

I talked to a local VWZ store rep in Emeryville, CA about the 6256. VWZ reps don't have any listed information about this phone. None. They won't be getting it. It's not a matter of "not passing testing". That's obviously total crap, as anybody would realize. Think about it. Why would VZW let their name be put on a product that isn't good enough for them to sell, but is OK to get at third party ...
