AT&T is smart in trying to keep the iPhone exclusive. It means more money and subscribers for them. But Apple will ultimately lose out because every competitive phone manufacturer is constantly trying to build an iPhone killer. Many of the Samsung, Nokia and LG phones are getting better and better. I've had the Dare since 7/7. The only way I would get the iPhone is if Verizon picks it up which is NOT going to happen. But the Dare is the best Verizon phone so far. I've had the Chocolate 1/2 and the Voyager and will take a hard look at the Thunder.

I don't understand the logic that Motorola uses when it comes to the phones for Verizon. The CDMA versions of the Razr and Razr2 all have downgraded components. The display has fewer colors and the processor is slower compared to the GSM versions. Look over the specs for the VM8,VM9 and VM9m. Got the adapter today and works perfectly. I use it with a set of Sony phones and the sound is amazingly good, very loud and clear. This is not meant to replace my iPod but on weekends, I'd rather not have to carry my phone and iPod together. So the MP3s on the phone will more than suffice for weekend use. Really nice setup.

I've had the Samsung 530, VX7000 and VX8100 and so far the A950 has had the best reception. I live in an older apartment building in a residential neighborhood. I ordered the Samsung adapter for $5.99 from Buy.com about two weeks ago but it was back-ordered. Just got an email from them yesterday that the adapter was shipped. I've always found Buy.com to be fairly reliable. They kept me up-to-date on status and some patience paid off. It still shows back-ordered as 11/2 but they may not have updated their site.

I'm torn between the 8100 and the a950 but to me the MP3 player is a really nice plus after a good working phone. However, the 8100 can take a miniSD card with a 1gig capacity and the a950 takes a microSD/Transflash card with a 256meg max. Sandisk promises a 512 and 1gig card down the road but when? The 1gig miniSD is available now and a 2gig will probably be available before a larger microSD/Transflash. Not too concerned ...

I'm sure there is still interest in the phone but everyone is tired of Verizon doing the Curly shuffle. No one has said anything about the built-in MP3 player and everyone is concentrating on the camera. What if Verizon releases this phone with the player disabled also and won't release a "software" update for some time? I have an 8100 but dealing with Verizon is just plain aggravating, not the cust reps, the sales reps or the tech reps ...

One possible reason why BestBuy got an exclusive promotion is to see how well they partner up. With Radio Shack ending their partnership at the end of the year, Verizon could be looking for another major outlet. Remember the last time a phone was available at Radio Shack first and then later at Verizon? Same scenario with BestBuy. This is probably a sign for many future phone releases and it seems to be the higher end models.

Same goes for me, I guess its going to be the VX8100 for now. I waited until today but who knows when the A970 will be out. Too bad.
USB Driver
For the lucky few that have the phone, Samsung has a USB driver on their website. Probably have to find a cable that is compatible with the A970 and try either QPST or Bitpim to customize the phone.

Exchange with Amazon is simple. Go to your account and select Return Item. Follow the next few pages and you can print a shipping label. Return as defective for exchange.

Most flash memory cards come formatted but you may want to use an adapter and format it with a PC.
