Yea it's going to be 2 distinct brands with different management, but both send money and report back to ma bell.

That is incorrect T Bone. Cricket is run under the Emerging Enterprises division of AT&T Corporate and uses the same back end systems for employees as the mobility arm. They have a President and do not have their own board of directors anymore. Granted it has different management than AT&T Mobility, Ma Bell still controls all that happens.

Re: Do AT&T phones need to be unlocked?
Sep 20, 2014, 2:19 AM
in the Cricket forum

AT&T branded phones can be used on Cricket without needing to unlock them first. 1. Make sure the phone isn't stolen 2. Make sure the phone wasn't financed. If it was, make sure the balance due is 0.

in the Article: AT&T's Cricket Brand to Cut Off Lifeline Service forum

I've seen Cricket customers go into a store and buy a 500 or 600 dollar phone and get the lifeline discount on the service... perhaps if they lived within their means and didn't buy expensive items they didn't need they wouldn't always be so broke and they wouldn't require the government to help subsidize their life...

Re: witch phone is better, the Cricket Kyocera Hydro or the Cricket ZTE x500 ? Internal storage, feat
May 26, 2014, 1:43 AM
in the Cricket forum

If I had to choose between the two I'd say the Hydro. The x500 was a trouble plagued phone while the Hydro was a dependable phone. The memory on the x500 is full after a couple decent sized apps, has a junk charging port and not a great camera, even for an entry level phone.

I've read the press release... but around half the company owned stores will close by Thanksgiving which is well before the purchase is complete. They can label it what they want; but we all know it is because of the acquisition.

Have you tried to login to gmail on a computer? If you can log in on a computer it's a phone issue. If not, it's a google issue.

It's not childish and petty. They decided that they didn't need to pay to renew the license. Why pay to put something on the phone if people can just download it from the app store anyway? Smart business move IMHO.

Re: Band difference
Feb 14, 2012, 9:34 AM
in the Cricket forum

Depending on your area Cricket uses 850/1900/1700. If you are in a triband market you would want a 1700 MHz phone. Older markets you can get away with a 850/1900 MHz device. Go to their website and look at the coverage map, it should tell you if you live in a triband area.

Yea that's probably the plan for them. I know that's the plan for MetroPCS and Cricket as well.

Re: Do they even have enough spectrum?

By utilizing existing Spectrum as they migrate people from one to the other. Believe it or not every previous tech will die as carriers move to VOIP through LTE. It's just a matter of fine tuning the tech and making it as reliable as everything that is out there now.

Re: Types of LTE networks?

Roaming agreements would mean they're using other companies towers in various areas. :o Every company out there roams on another company at some point. MetroPCS and Cricket routinely share networks in many areas since they rarely overlap.

You still have to perform a credit check since the phone isn't offered on prepaid and they won't sell it without service.

I was talking about the Bold and 8310, not any of T-Mobiles devices. UMA will be available for AT&T soon enough.

Well then they wouldn't be using it as it was meant to be used so they deserve it. There is a tethering plan for every device that is capable of it.

Re: Pricey!
May 21, 2009, 6:59 AM
in the Article: BlackBerry Curve 8900 $200 at AT&T Starting May 22 forum

Yes BB's are very popular, but everyone gets the Bold because it's the "newest thing". When you have the bold & curve displayed next to each other it helps make the choice obvious just by looking at the screen.

Re: stop insisting that your data plan is unlimited!
May 20, 2009, 2:36 PM
in the Article: AT&T Mulling Changes to iPhone Plan forum

The key phrasing is unlimited access. No where in any terms of service or any brochures does it say unlimited usage. Technical yes, legal yes, shady yes. Has anyone been charged for domestic data on an iPhone when they had the $30.00 data plan? No where that I can find...

My thought is they want to deplete the 8310's before they drop the price on the new Curve. I can also see them getting the flip pearl before the end of the summer since the existing pearls are sitting on shelves.

in the Article: Apple Considering iPhone for Verizon forum

I seriously doubt Apple would develop a CDMA version, especially when Verizon said they are moving to LTE. If anything, Apple might be a launch device for the LTE launch. I can see it happening especially since they were the "launch" device for the AT&T name change.

All of AT&T's phones are insurable now. With the exception of the iphone of course.

Re: Jitterbug type phone

The closest thing AT&T has is the Pantech Breeze. Big buttons, louder than normal and the numbers on screen are decent too. It also has three separate programmable buttons for speed dial.

Re: Now that you can buy an Iphone outright, can I get it prepaid.
Mar 31, 2009, 8:54 AM

You can do it, but there isn't an unlimited data plan for prepaid anymore, so be careful with internet use. Even with the highest data plan you will go over in a hurry...

Re: Verizon's 80 million cutomers
Feb 17, 2009, 6:19 PM
in the AT&T forum

Actually only part right. SBC bought AT&T Wireless and merged it with Cingular. Then SBC bought AT&T Inc and decided to use the AT&T name, which eventually led to the rebranding of Cingular as AT&T Mobility. Either way, both AT&T(Cingular) and Verizon Wireless bought their way to the top. It's the way of the world. The big buy other companies to grow. There isn't much patience for naturally growing companies anymore...

This kind of menu system is long overdue for Windows devices. The stylus was one of the reasons Windows was not popular for me. Once it starts to hit devices, I might actually start offering Windows devices to customers. Lets hope it doesn't freeze or bug out on us.

If you have a tax ID number, it won't let you do it in a consumer market. All of our business accounts were migrated to NBI in our market last year. Your market may not have had the migration happen yet...

We stopped giving her leads months and months ago because we weren't getting paid correctly, doesn't show on DSR and when we did get paid, it took 2 months to show up. Plus if they add any lines after the first month, you don't get credit at all. If we activate a business, we become the sole contact at the store.

You get a copy of it in the store too if you put your email address as the sales rep. It usually comes within a couple of minutes, so have them call while they are there.
