Nope, that just brings up a search in Google. "Call dad, home" you end up in Google with a listing search for "call dad home". You're telling me that when you hold down the hard button magnifying glass on the phone and the "Speak Now" Google search box comes up you can access your phone book entries and have the phone dial them??

Please clarify which "search" button you are referring to. When I longpress voice search or any other app for that matter it tries to add or delete that app from the screen. If you could elaborate I would appreciate it.

Voice dialing

Does anyone know of a good app that will do voice dialing similar to the iPhone or Windows Mobile? One other thing, has anyone entered a pin number in an address book entry with a pause after the number? If so, does it work when you put the handset up to your face and the screen goes black? Any idea if Android 2.2 will fix the BT problem and add some hands free capabilities?

Voice dialing

It's amazing that they just can't make the perfect phone with great features for VZW. The voice dialing software on this phone sucks! The fact that you cannot voice dial from your bluetooth is even worse, aren't we supposed to be hands free these days, my old Samsung i760 PDA phone has better voice recognition than this thing and it works with my bluetooth! It's ridiculous that a cell phone company doesn't include this, forget about all the other ...

Thanks for the detailed review. If you are a VZW customer using an older WinMo 6.1 phone, is this a phone that you would buy now or wait for the nextgen 2010 phones to come out? It doesn't look to be that responsive, or it seems slow to go through the programs, is that a correct statement? I figured that I have waited a year and a half for "the phone" from VZW, I thought this would be it but ...

I have to say, the voice recognition on this phone SUCKS! I have "Mom" listed in my phone, I try to get it to call mom, it goes through ten other names that aren't even close! I have an E815 Moto and the voice recognition worked so well I never had to repeat myself. This phone never gets it right, I have tried to speak closer to the mic, then farther from it, nothing works on the first ...

thanks for the quick reply. I recently called into B2B VZW and they had no info on the release date for the 5800, even though the VZW site has "coming soon" for the Libra. Do you think that the 7th is a pretty accurate release date for this phone? Do you know anything about a WM6 upgrade to 6.1? Thanks for your help.

Distinctive ring for "Unavailable" caller ID

My old LG 6000 had a feature that allowed you to have a different ring tone for "restricted" & "Unavailable" callers. Does anyone know how to set that up for the 815? I tried saving to the phone book an "unavailable" & "restricted" call from the call log to associate a ring to it, but the phone will not allow you to save non-numeric call entries.

I had Cingular for a couple of years, I liked the true sound quality on the phones, but the coverage was just too spotty to stay with them. I live in L.A. and you would have signal in some areas and then not have signal in places you would expect coverage. You also had a lot of dropped calls. I also hated hearing that "all circuits busy" message when making a call during peak hours or ...

I changed my view options in forums to get the postings to display in chronologocal order, but I can't seem to get the User Review section to list the losts in chronological order. I will have one post from July with another directly below from June and then another on the following page from July again. Any advice?

I don't see it. On the left side of the main page you have News, Feature Articles, Phones, Phone Finder, etc.. Then Log in, About us, Advertising, Contact/Feedback, etc... Same stuff on the bottom of the page too. The top has the Jump area. Where do you see a set up, or view options tab?

Just out of curiosity, why can't the phone scoop "forums" and "reviews" post in chronological order?! You read these posts and you find a January post right above a post from July 29th. How difficult is it to get their servers to lay the pages out in order of most recent post to the oldest?

Exchanged my 815 at Verizon

I had the 815 for four days and was very disappointed with the camera, volume and a few other issues. I decided to give it another chance and wait in line at Verizon, and wait & wait. Okay, I took my 815 phone back and exchanged it for one that had a more recent production date on the box. I don't want to get ahead of myself, but after a few hours of use and a ...

Okay, I took my phone back and exchanged it for one that had a more recent production date on the box. I don't want to get ahead of myself, but after a few hours of use and a few pics, I am a much happier camper right about now! The camera seems to be much better and the phone doesn't creek. The volume is also good on this one. The jury is still out for ...

I agree, except that it's the camera that sucks. If they are going to sell a product with a 1,3 megapixel camera on it, it should work!! That's why I bought the phone, I wanted a decent camera in my pocket and at my disposal without carrying two separate devices.

Somewhat blurry on the phone, it depends if you zoom, or the lighting. The 4x zoom definitely blurry on the phone. When you send them to the computer, then you can see how bad they really are. It's tough to see how blurred they actually are on that small screen.

Does the camera work in all modes, such as 2x & 4x zoom without blur? I am wondering if waiting for a second or third round of e815 phones will be better than what we have?? Maybe I'll go to Verizon and see what a few different new one's work like. Thanks for the update.

I called Moto, they referred me to a repair center of theirs to look at the phone. I'm going to try that before returning/exchanging it. No dead pixels that I can see. I actually think my LG 6000 produced better pics.

It seems like everyone is having the same problem. I have experimented on every camera setting and every light, from indoors to out, and get basically the same outcome, blurry pictures! Don't even try the 4X zoom, very blurry! It seems the more you zoom the worse the picture gets. I have also sent all the pics to my email address and they get worse in the larger format.

I have the same set up as you. I have experimented with low res, medium res & hi res, dark rooms, lighted rooms, outside up close and far away. The pics look just okay on the camera, but when I send them to my email address as an attachment you can see how bad they really are.

E815 Camera - Bad pictures!
Jul 17, 2005, 9:43 PM
in the Motorola E815 / E816 Hollywood forum

My pictures are blurry indoors and out, sometimes grainy, and the 4x zoom is completely useless, always a bad picture and out of focus! I know there's a lot of people on this site who say that if you want a camera go buy one, but with the technology we have at our disposal today, why can't we have a decent camera in our phones. It's not like they don't promote the s#%t out of that feature, they sell it ...
