Re: Battery Life

in the Apple iPhone 4 (CDMA) forum

I consistently average 60+ mins/day of phone time - all using Bluetooth, 45-60 emails/day, 15+ text messages, and leave my WiFi turned on. I am usually charging my iPhone late afternoon, but by that point it's been 9 hrs or so since I took it off the charger at home. I think this is excellent for a true smartphone. My last phone was a Pre Plus, and I could watch the battery level drop on that ...

Oops! Hit submit too soon. It's actually the same processor as the Moto Droid and is a 600mhz processor. However, Palm has the Pre underclocked to 500mhz. You can find hacks on Precentral to increase the clock speed. I've been running at 600mhz for weeks - much smoother, no problems.

You don't need a separate app. Open the sms app. Open the drop down menu at the upper left corner - "Messaging". Select "Preferences & Accounts". The first line says "Show Notifications". Make sure that is "On."

Re: MMS?

You ask if you can send pictures to your friend's Pre. Do you not know if you can send pictures, or does he now know if he can receive them? I've not had anyone send a picture to me yet, but I've never read anything that says the Pre can't get MMS. Also, when I open up messaging there is an icon to attach files. When I click on that it takes me right to ...

in the Palm Pre Plus (CDMA) forum

From what I've read so far I think that's the case. Take a look at this - http://www.companionlink.com/index.html If you find any other way please post it here. That's one of the reasons I'm having some many problems picking a new phone. I had the Omnia 2 but took it back because I had too many problems with ActiveSync. I think this Companion Link product may be my solution.

I returned my O2, so can't verify this - but as I recall if you hold your finger on the screen for a long second you will get the same + - signs you are talking about. They show up as a faint yellow or white -- depending on the application you're in -- if I remember correctly.

Re: Nexus One's hardware cost $174.15
Jan 10, 2010, 12:49 PM
in the HTC Nexus One forum

No, Google is not "making" $353.85 one each unit. The $174.15 figure is just the estimated cost of all the components to build the phone. There are no figures given in that article for labor, packaging, shipping from the manufacturer to the distribution point, shipping to the final purchaser, etc. You also have to consider that Goole and HTC have how many months, man-hours of time in R & D of this product. A manufacturer ...

Re: Views after 2 weeks - RETURNED
Jan 6, 2010, 12:37 PM
in the Samsung Omnia II (CDMA) forum

Took the Omnia back yesterday. I was about over the learning curve issues with WinMo, but had other problems that led to my decision. I needed to be able to sync w/my desktop Outlook contacts and calendar via USB. This required MS ActiveSync, which quit working too many times. In 4 weeks I think I uninstalled/reinstalled about 12 times. Yesterday it never would work again. I was also having problems with text messages. ...

Epik, Do I read your post correctly - is there an app that will let you sync Outlook contacts to Google contacts? I found and downloaded the app that will keep my Outlook calendar synced w/Google, but cannot find anything like that for Contacts. I have had to export my Outlook contacts to a Windows CSV file and upload that to Google. The only reference I can find for a program to sync Contacts automatically is an ...

Re: Restocking Fee Help
Dec 29, 2009, 11:16 PM
in the Verizon forum

That's odd. The discount I get is X% on the primary line, and X2% on data. Is your plan, not including data, $79.99 or more? If so, ask why you aren't a "VIP". There is no restocking fee if you qualify for that service level. You would then also qualify for 25% off all accessories.

Not knowing I wouldn't be able to edit or submit a 2nd one, I submitted a review before I bought this phone. I've now had it 2 weeks. I might bump my 3.5 rating to 3.75, 4.0 at most. This is a pretty good phone. Much better call quality than the last 2 Palm devices I've had. BT seems to work well w/my 2 yr old Plantronics. Speaker phone is good. Screen is ...

Dec 17, 2009, 3:08 PM
in the Samsung Omnia II (CDMA) forum

You aren't being charged for using the WiFi. They're insisting on a data plan for all "smart phones". It's a business. VZW is subsidizing some of the phone cost because most people don't want to pay $400, $500, or more for a phone. You get a discounted phone, VZW get a monthly revenue stream - a greater stream if you are on a smart phone w/a data plan.

I now have the phone. Picked it up Saturday afternoon. Haven't had time to do a full review yet. I'm not "sold" yet. I did install SPB Mobile Shell, and that made a big difference. TouchWiz sucks. The browser sucks - it's very slow and is a waste of a really good screen. It does seem to be a pretty good phone so far - and I mean PHONE - for making ...

Even the VZW techs are recommending you install this very same app. They did to me, both in my local corp store, and when I called in to 611 to ask a question. I'm not sure why you consider this "snake oil" when it makes perfect sense that you eventually need to close out apps that you aren't using so as to free up system resources. This is not an example of "not understanding how a ...

This turned into such a long thread that the original posts and responses have become confusing. We DO have a Exchange Server. There are other issues that I outlined in an earlier post. Trust me, I'm not an IT person, but I'm not completely ignorant about tech. We have explored this problem in depth.

Alltell unlimited texting to My Circle plan

See below. Can someone explain why Alltell would be taking action like this without VZW doing so first? Just curious. Thanks. Gladly. I work in a small office. Out of a total staff of 20, two of us use smart phones. I have VZW, the other guy has ATT - they have a product comparable to Wireless Sync. For some of us it is the only way - or nearly so. At present, my only other option to get my work email to my phone would be to forward it to a gmail account and read that from my phone. Very inconvenient. It will be a major inconvenience not having WS.

Re: HTC Touch Pro2 in stores when?
Sep 19, 2009, 11:58 AM

I have a friend who uses T-Mo. He got the TP2 as soon as it was available. I haven't had time to see his yet, but from what he has told me it seems like that version doesn't live up to the reviews I've seen for the Sprint/VZW versions. I'm not sure what the differences are yet, but there does seem to be enough variance to have an impact on performance.

HTC Touch Pro2 in stores when?
Sep 17, 2009, 3:24 PM

I called VZW customer service today and asked when the TP2 might be in stores. The rep I spoke with said it was already shipped out and should be in those stores that are going to get it. My local store - a corporate store, Kansas City area - does not have the TP2 yet, nor do they know when they will have it. Any VZW personnel know when this is going to be in stores? ...

Is anyone buying this phone?

I stopped in my local VZW store a couple of weeks ago to play with the BB Tour. There was a MS rep in the store promoting WinMO and she demo'd this phone for me for about 20 minutes. I don't know that I personally think it's "that" ugly, but I think I would have preferred a keyboard that slid out to the side so you could have better key spacing and use the screen in landscape mode while typing.

Yes, that's what I was talking about. I have VO7, and it is still there as you described. What I was talking about, is that the EQ, such as it is, is not available when playing .wma's, through the VCast music player. It's not a big deal, I just found that the settings do make small changes to the sound and I thought it looked kind of cool.
