Re: I actually like the way it looks
It's the name I can't get over.
I'm not sure whether it's G (like gee!) zone, or jizz one. I'm saying the latter :D (But, it is a tough phone altogether, something only Nextel can offer--finally, something decent to compete over!).
Re: Verizon eff's it up again...NOT
The "We Want Money" argument doesn't apply; nor is the UI the cause of not being able to have open-access to the bluetooth. That's a problem directed to Verizon Wireless's wireless content provider and their restrictions placed on Verizon Wireless for their wireless phones.
And last I did, I was able to put 30 second clips for ringtones on my VX-8300. It didn't break my brain or my phone.
Your issue is not the user interface, else you would be addressing ...
Re: External Caller ID Display
The LG VX-8000 was released in March of 5. It was meant to be the Verizon flagship phone for the EV-DO rollout, but it was obscurbed instantly when they announced the 8100. The phone features a very sharp outside caller ID display that you can access an MP3 player with no (initially) conceivable way to add MP3s to the device. That display also allowed you to take pictures/movies with the phone closed, and also view your image gallery.
The phone, ...
External Caller ID Display
It's not that the screen is blurry or bad, it's that compared to the LG VX-8000, it sucks. And why wouldn't it? The 8000's external caller id display is better than most handsets displays altogether, the 8100/8300's external display is of an inferior quality, put in there to cheapen the phone's end cost and also increase battery life.
I'd only be willing to sacrifice the battery life of these phones if I can do everything with the phone without opening ...
Re: GOSH I WISH THEY STILL SAT ON THE BOARD OF CINGULAR!
Yeah, but what the hell's point but for domestic use? The FCC didn't approve a 2100 spectrum for WCDMA, so for all that extra AND the HSDPA, we're not going to get far in the roaming market.
What I think is crazy is that the Japanese have developed a data transfer rate HIGHER than most commercial Wi-fi bands and public use internet service providers.
Re: BerryRAZR
That doesn't justify a terrible neologism.
RAZRberry
First person to use it as a legitimate term for this phone will be castrated.
Wireless Internet Cards and Apple Laptops
In about a month I will be purchasing myself a wireless internet card for a laptop with the 59.99 Unlimitted National Access plan, however that's been settled already.
I'm also interested in purchasing an Apple product, laptop specifically. I want to purchase an iBook for simplicities' sake, however I run into one problem: I'm not sure if you're able to install a wireless internet card into an iBook. There are no external ports, and I'm not sure if you can ...
Re: sending pixs to email address on a computer
Depends on your e-mail service. I'm using the LG VX-8000 and I send it to my Gmail account and it receives fine... Perhaps your firewall is blocking you from seeing the attachment?
RE: Federal Excise Tax
The Federal Excise tax was imposed on telephone lines at a fixed rate of 3% in 1898 to fund the Spanish-American war.
That was a hundred and seven frickin' years ago.
Re: SOAB
Quite frankly, the average American consumer finds anything that's not in the five words or less on an advertisement unbearably impossible to read: either poor eyesight, easily bored, or just plain lazy.
They sure don't put forth the effort to read, but boy howdy do they go through such great effort that it gives them an aneurysm to complain to CSRs about it.
Though I do think (think, as in don't care either way but it'd be nice) the following:
1). Regulatory ...
Re: any info on the 8100 yet
By the sounds of it, Verizon's warranty department no longer replaces the 8000--either discontinued by the manufacturer, or perhaps Verizon no longer replaces it. So they get the equivalent model, now the 8100.
As from what I've seen and handled, the LG VX8000 is a superior phone to the 8100 in terms of what makes it good: the quality of camera, the screen quality, size and keypad functions (including external keys) are better than the 8100. The 8100 sacrifices this ...
Re: looks cool...
Chances are full duplex speaker.
I can't name a high-end phone with a half speaker.
Re: Ugly People Catalog
Phonescoop's about phone service within the American markets. Samsung and LG operate heavily in Korea and Japan, so this phone might've been out for a while before we got it.
Re: Help with Caller ID on Verizon
By the sounds of it, everyone else here's hit the point:
1). Verizon doesn't display the Billing Name on a whole, only City and State.
2). Port-Ins mean that Cingular still controls the number, but it's overlaid in the network on your HLR information--it's the diable number and it triggers a Verizon routing number, not a Cingular IMSI.
3). However, if your information appears on the caller id, and that's from Cingular's databases, then there's nothing Cing can do: They're limitted to ...
Re: ALIANT IS KING!
lol. You're funny. So, do you get coverage all the way out there in north-central Saskatchewan?
Re: Blurry Camera
I've no idea what ISO means, but it has a lot to do with lighting and framerate. The switch is all about indoor/outdoor viewing.
Re: T-Mobile USA Possible Sale Damaging Verizon
I think we're overlooking a simple aspect here.
The majority of Verizon's coverage comes from roaming agreements. The great coverage that Cingular offers, roaming agreements. Have you ever actually seen these coverage maps WITHOUT the agreements? T-Mobile owns some damn good spectrum without the agreements.
Everyone's doing it
I should so start my own MVNO. Everyone else is...
Re: Hmmm...
Are we so certain that the ETF is a recovery cost for phones, or simply masquerading as one? Or is this what justifies breaching a guaranteed check per month? A contract isn't a recovery for loss of profit after an equipment sale--though it does do that--it's a reprimand for breaching an agreement you made with the company.
In the UK, you've got no options for ETF. Your twelve or eighteen month agreement is enforceable by law.
Though I do think Cingular's ...
Re: ZERO!!!!!!
What says you can't port your number? Just means that they have to activate you phone in the New York/Upstate New York market. Shame AT&T isn't around anymore, since their GSM billing system was national not market-based.
Re: Verizon To Have a Consistent UI Across All Phones?
Lucky for us the UI for those phones is a good UI.
Wait, huh?
Does this mean that Sprint'll actually cover something?
Re: Read it or not, Verizon sucks!
I give you my applause, very well put. Sadly though Triple B can't really read as demonstrated by the response to my post.
Re: VERIZON, CAN YOU HEAR US NOW? No, Well see ya then!
To be equally intelligent, Allover deese nuts huh?
Re: VERIZON, CAN YOU HEAR US NOW? No, Well see ya then!
Not all Cingular folks come here to solely cause problems... I mean, I don't cause problems.
Re: Read it or not, Verizon sucks!
I have to agree with what you've said, but I'm not all for the snide attitude anyone's holding. In fact, I have to agree with a lot to the replies made in regarding to BBB's post. (Likewise, I have to agree with Tom that Verizon's been offering leading services before anyone else has gotten a chance. I do think that Rollover is more of a gimicky ploy than an industry revolutionizing tactic. It's a selling point and a counter-punch ...
Re: Calling Voice Mail uses up minutes
Well I'll be. Guess I'm not being billed because my voicemail calls last less than 30 seconds. Doesn't really matter, though. No one really ever calls me...
Re: Calling Voice Mail uses up minutes
Is that so? I've always presumed it was considered m2m...
Re: Verizon considering GSM
I think everyone before me's already said it, but I should reiterate some key points here.
Verizon will not move towards GSM. Much like Americans and metrics, European standards find little acceptance this side of the Atlantic. Even GSM in America operates on the FCC mandated frequencies of 850/1900 mhz, not the European 900/1800.
Granted GSM is supposedly a global standard, CDMA has the added benefit of being backwards compatible: No matter how far Verizon moves in the future they will ...
Re: Dump Cingular?
Part of the problem of living near the Canadian border is that sometimes, Canadian signal's much stronger than American signal and I'm not sure if changing carriers will fix that.
I'd say try other carriers, see if they do the same thing. You might want to see about getting a North America packs, but that's probably too expensive...
Data Q: Wait for EV-DO or get the 1x-RTT?
In the fall, I'm going out to pick up a new laptop (hopefully this time around a Mac. I'm not getting a Compaq laptop. Ever. Again.), and I'm also pondering picking up an unlimited data plan from Verizon.
However, I'm curious, is EV-DO worth the wait and should I pick up the 69.99 for the 1x-RTT?
Re: A suggestion for Verizon...
Plus it also saves you the trouble of being charged per call. (What is it? Like 1.50? I know once a month ain't bad, but being a Cing CSR, I've seen a few 411 fiends rack up their bill a dollar).
Re: I don't know; I guess it's subjective. I'm used to a much smoother sound.
Not really.
I've had the Samsung SCH-A310 before this (what an ugprade!), and the sound quality on it's comparable to the VX8000. (Now, are we talking about the earpiece, i.e. the top-flip speaker, or the ear-bud? I've noticed no difference between those two, and I've noticed no difference between this phone and others I've used).
Re: Sorry, that's how it is; I returned mine because of it...
Is it then the phone or the earpiece? (I've yet to find any flaws with mine).
Are wireless companies in trouble?
If VoIP catches on, and it will, how much trouble would wireless companies be?
Re: Why Series 40?
Consumer friendliness.
The series 70-80 are for high-end, business oriented customers. The series 40 are for more consumer-minded customers, their features while typical of high-ended phones, lack any higher functionality. The 6270 and 6265 are a good example of this, they have stereo quality sound but really come with no development tools for the music you place on it.
It's good, though, that Nokia's coming out with something for CDMA that isn't a clunker. And hopefully they're using the Qualcomm chips ...
Re: some pretty sweet phones! (But aliders?)
Much like flip phones and doorhinges, time will only help us perfect this "technology." GI Joes taught me that the more plastic moving parts, the less life the poor guy got.
Re: QPST is obsene
Yeah, you're supposed to. Apparently QPST can't just recognize your phone right off. You have to turn it off, plug it in, and then turn it on--BAM! QPST sees it. It's weird. Or you could plug your phone in and power cycle it. That works too.
Re: QPST is obsene
"Doesn't read it"? What do you mean it doesn't? Did you turn the phone off, plug it into the computer and then turn the phone back on?
