I had the S3 and just changed over to the RAZR HD, not the MAXX.The S3 will show signal in my house but I could not carry a phone call. I loved everything else about the phone, but signal is most important. Camera is better on the S3. Everything else, I love my RAZR. The HD still has a 2500mA battery. I get almost two days out of it. Verizon dies require you to purchase equipment that they approve to be connected to their network...correct. However, they do not require you to purchase the phone from them, or it be new, or any other alternative. That being said, if they offset that much money when they sell the phone, yes they can set the rate terms. Even if those rates differ from previous terms.

You do realize that Verizon is subsidizing phones more now then ever before? You do know that your wireless carrier only "owes" you network coverage? Just like your cable company only owes you cable service, walmart only owes you to have products on their shelf for you to buy, your electric company only owes you power to your house...etc.
Verizon spends more money for upkeep and building out their network so you can have the latest technology delievered ...

Monthly service 30.00 bucks for UNLIMITED (not 5gb) data and email
44.99 is IF it can sync to corporate email.
Tether is either 30 or 15 depending on the data plan and is 5gb (this is not even advertised as unlimited data).
so if you tethered the phone as a modem and used the web/email it would be 59.99

Dude, you should really try the Storm with 5.0 Had it for two weeks now. Super fast. The only downfall is web browsing. But I use opera mini and bolt for that anyway. 5.0 is rocking man.

LOL. Ok. I have now sold in 2 areas and in both markets the 3g coverage for Att was horrible compared to VZW. Just had a customer who works at a local shop. ATT and TMobile both promised her that she would have so much better service at her home and cheaper pricing.
I was at her home watching her try to connect to the "high speed" internet and it kept only connecting at EDGE ...

ETF on smartphones being higher makes sense. An ETF is to offset the subsidy. I have already seen people stating to buy the phone on a new line, pay the 2yr price plus act fee plus disconnect and it comes out cheaper then paying full retail. Yes, VZW pays quite a chunk of money for every Droid/Storm/etc. This is purely to stop that practice.

In all seriousness. I wasn't impressed with my friend's iPhone. Browser was nice. But I use Opera and Bolt in my Storm and it comes through nicely too. I wasn't impressed with the load time of apps. I could get into stuff quicker then he could. But I still will ...

ok. One issue for all you that are helping. This person has said that the government is NOT their employer, but are contracted to work for the government through another company. Boost works fine in Gainesville? LOL. Ok. Your post just lost credibility. T-Mobile and Nextel have horrible coverage around Gainesville. I know...I have many customers that leave for the cheap boost unlimited plan and come back within a couple weeks because of poor coverage in gainesville. Oh, my arguments are laughable? Ok...OP said that carriers should not dictate "exclusive" rights...carriers AND manufactures come to the agreement. Second, I would argue that the popularity of the iPhone has pressed other manufactures to produce as good a product due to the fact you have other carriers screaming for a phone to compete with. So, the exclusivity has helped pushed technology.
