Any new phones coming?
Mar 25, 2006, 12:37 PM
in the Virgin Mobile forum

Does anyone know if Virgin will be releasing any new phones? The website has reduced the number of phones available to 5 (previously it has been 7 or more). The "Snapper" and "Slider" appear to be the newest models, but any hint on new models for 2nd Quarter?

1. Speakerphone is quite loud, it goes from the range of 1-8, and I usually leave mine on 2 if I'm in a quiet room, 3 for moderate, and 4 while I'm in the car or other noisy place. 2. Battery life is generally on-par with what they rate the call time and standby. I bought the extended battery and enjoy almost 6 hours of talk time and days worth of standby. 3. The web ...

Yes, but what I'm saying is that for the $15 you pay for the 'unlimited PCS vision' if you choose to use a "tethered" (via cable to your computer) connection they do not support that. Matter of fact, from what I've heard it is against their policy to do so, and they can slam you if you use it "excessively" (from what I heard more than 1GB/mo.) To me this doesn't make sense, but like I said ...

To my knowledg, the 'phone-as-modem' packagees are no longer available? From what I have heard Sprint has pulled these in favor of the new connection cards. They want you to pay more money to have online access. I just got a data cable and to be honest, works pretty darn good. But I'm afraid to replace it as my internet access provider since I have heard horror stories about people who use it and get charged exhorbitant ...

You will probably be unhappy with Verizon (or Cingular for that matter) because their call clarity is terrible compared with Sprint. Sprint runs at 1.9Ghz while Verizon at 800Mhz. I can understand your frustration with new phones -- I can tell you a horror story when I at one time switched to Verizon with a LG VX6100 -- I had to go back to tech support so they could perform an upgrade on the phone which took ...

How much does the 'phone as modem' package cost? What are my options there? Thanks.

OK, cool. So you are saying that I have 2 options: 1. Connect using an ISP. I can get one for about $9.95 cheaply, and get 14.4K access then? I just dial the local number, and it counts against my minutes? If I call after 9pm and weekends I get it free right? Does Sprint know I am using the phone to call the ISP and would they charge me for data usage? ...

Using phone to call ISP's

Is there anything 'illegal' or wrong about using your cell phone to call to an ISP using your plan minutes? Is there anything in Sprint contracts that specifically prohibits it's use? In other words, if I call an ISP in the evening it is free then, right?

What you use your phone for is your own business. If you use the phone to call a local access number to your own ISP I don't understand how or why Sprint would really care how you use your minutes. How can they realistically prove and go through the full investigation of calling an ISP? Is it stated specifically in anyone's contract that they cannot call ISP's as it will violate their contract, or that they ...

The MA8512P looks interesting, I have seen it on a website for around $28.99. But really, can you connect to the internet with your cell phone with this kit? I have seen in the specs a maximum speed of 115.2kbps for a cellular connection!? Is that true? Would you still need a separate ISP to login? Thanks for any more information you can provide.

Well Sprint and/or Sanyo is supposed to give you a full 1 year warranty on defective equipment. If you bring it to a Sprint store perhaps they can help you further. You must prove to them that this has not occurred as a result of any kind of abuse. Also provide your receipt if necessary. If they find this as a result of a defect, they will ship you out a replacement, usually probably a ...

Well I've had my phone since January, and have had no problems with the casing. If the phone has been subjected to extreme variances in temperature... these would present ideal conditions for such a crack in your phone. And being Christmas time since you have owned it, that may be the case. Do you leave your phone in the car, or extreme conditions such as very cold or very hot? Sanyo's have been known to ...

Basic Internet Access with a PCS Connection Kit?
Mar 1, 2005, 11:14 AM

I am curious if you can use your Sprint phone to "dial-in" to an ISP and use your cell phone as a means to get internet access. In other words, is it possible to use your cell phone to get on the internet with your laptop with a USB connection? Additionally, if you sign up for a PCS Vision Pack, do you then have to susbscribe to a separate ISP to get in? Thanks for information ...

The email address is based on the PCS Vision username. To my knowledge usually it is the first initial of the person's first name followed by their full last name and "01@sprintpcs.com". So if your name is John Doe it would be jdoe01@sprintpcs.com. Another way to check this is to have them log into their account using sprintpcs.com and look up their personal information on the website to verify the address.
