Re: Broken Speed Dial?
May 24, 2006, 1:31 PM
in the Sony Ericsson W600i / W550i forum

Its not broken. This is just how SE phones are. I've got the S710a, and I thought the same thing when I first got it. Holding 1 for vm is the only speed dial that works as such. To use "speed dial #2", just press 2 (do not hold it) and press "call" (Left soft key on s710a - probably the same on this one). Holding down any other # besides 1 will simply ...

Coverage is dependant first on your carrier and then on your phone. That being said, without knowing who your carrier is, its impossible to know for sure. On the other hand - Jackson isn't exactly a blip on the map, so I think you should be fine.

I would only recommend the 6820 if you txt primarily. I used one for a couple weeks at work. Although I loved its features & keyboard, the reception sucked. I could stand in one spot & watch the signal indicator spike up & down repeatedly. Maybe it was just a fluke with that one unit, but I thought this made it an embarassment to Nokia's great reputation for putting out phones with incredible reception.

I haven't heard of anyone being able to play mp3s through a BT headset. I have a Moto HS-820. When playing mp3s with the bt headset connected it just plays through the speaker. I'm sure you could go to www.sonyericsson.com & find their 800# for telesales. They could sell you another headset without having to have the product #.

Yes, you do have to buy their BT receiver. The software download is free. I downloaded it & tried to use it with my Belkin BT adaptor, but to no avail. Upon opening the program, it immediately starts looking for THEIR BT adaptor & will accept no other. Sounds crummy to me. The only reason that there is such a buzz on PS about this god-forsaken program is b/c someone who works for the ...

I like to use iTunes (free download). With it you can adjust the start/stop times of the clip down to the millisecond. 64kbps seems to be good for a balance of quality/size.

Weird calander issues

This is the first real issue I've had with the phone. I use the calender/planner feature in my phone heavily. A couple days ago I noticed an entry was scheduled for a different time from what I remembered scheduling it for. Upon further examination, I found that literally every entry in my calender had been moved forward by 5 hrs. I fixed all of them (it took a while). Within a day, it happened ...

I still like 128kbps. I'll sometimes go as low as 92. The one time I tried 48 I thought it sounded like crap in contrast. Maybe it was just that one song. W/ a 128mb memstick in the thing, I'm not in danger of running out of space any time soon.

I'm not jumping ship any time soon either. It will take something of w800i-like proportions for me to do such a thing. Considering that the w800i is for Europe/Asia, and there is not yet (that we know of) an american version of it, that will be a long time. I'm sure that there will be an american version, but I expect it will probably not be seen here until Summer '06, by which time I *might* ...

So what do you guys think of the K750 that's posted under the "new phones" here on PS??? Some are calling it an s710-killer. I do have to admit, it may not be as aesthetically pleasing, but the specs look good. It has a 2mp camera too. Although the screen is a bit smaller, it is still the same resolution, if the info posted is correct.

You would need a GSM provider such as Cingular or Tmobile, since GSM is all there is in Europe. There are also other smaller regional providers scattered around the country that use GSM. Tmo isn't in my area - we have Cingular & SunCom. Actually, you should check out Tmobile's UK site, where you'll see that things are quite different from what you describe. In Europe, practically every non-pda phone is free w/ svc contract (even the v3 Razr). The PDA phones may not be free, but they are much more affordable there too.

I wasn't taking guesses about it. I used to work for a Cingular agent, during which time I encountered 4 individuals with this phone. 3 of those people had units in which bluetooth either wouldn't connect to anything, or would lose its connection less than 5 minutes after connecting. I'd say thats a major issue, as would many others. Don't act so offended. It's not like I'm insulting the owners of this phone.

What exactly is it about this phone (other than aesthetics) that makes you think its so much better than the v551??? Surely not the "battery life" that you refer to. Off the top of my head, I'm not aware of anything that is that much better about the v600.
