Does anyone know the number of voices the maxx Ve has for polyphonic ringtones?

It's released!!! It's called 3450 by Verizon, not 3400.

My Audiovox 8940 has that flashlight feature. I love it so much! I'm going to miss it when I upgrade this December.

Your password is usually the last 4 digits of your phone number. If that doesn't work, enter this key sequence: #5625* and then the END key. (stands for LOCK) That will tell you your password. Good luck.

Since the A990 is based on the Z710 in Europe, we can find out alot by this review. http://www.mobile-review.com/review/ samsung-z710-cam-en.shtml It goes into alot of detail with regards to the 3.2MP camera. I can't wait for this baby. Hopefully by Christmas!

Do a search on ebay for audiovox stereo adapter. There are 3/32 to 1/8 stereo plugs specifically designed for this.

faceplates
May 13, 2005, 8:26 AM
in the Audiovox CDM-8940 forum

Some internet sites have started coming out with faceplates for the 8940. I went to a Verizon service dept and talked to a tech about changing faceplates. She said not to do it yourself b/c it voids the warranty on the phone, and you can mess something up. But I've changed covers before on other phones I've had and I feel pretty confident I can do this one. It looks to me like there are four screws holding the front ...

How does it sound? Is the quality of the recording any good? Does the speaker reproduce it fairly clearly?

Re: Changing menu colors??
May 3, 2005, 2:50 PM
in the Audiovox CDM-8940 forum

The easiest way to change the ringer volume and vibrate mode is this: open the phone and press the side volume rockers, up will increase the volume of the ringer, down will decrease volume and you can select vibrate, silence, etc. Using this method however doesn't allow you to actually hear the tone/volume, but I actually prefer that. As far as I know, the colors for the menus, etc. are not changeable. The customization on this phone is actually pretty poor.

Re: Video Legnth??
Apr 21, 2005, 10:04 AM
in the Audiovox CDM-8940 forum

I don't think you can record longer than 15 second videos. The camera records straight to it's internal memory. Then if you want to move it to the SD card you can...but you can't record directly to the card. That would have been nice!

picture ID on front LCD
Apr 15, 2005, 2:47 PM
in the Audiovox CDM-8940 forum

I contacted Audiovox customer service and asked them if they knew of a planned software update to allow the picture of the person calling to appear on the front LCD, not just the inside screen. This was their response: "CDM-8940 is a very new phone, but we are not hearing anything that would indicate our engineering department intends to offer a software upgrade that would allow this. To be perfectly honest, it would be unlikely that it will happen." Very disappointing. Maybe if ...

Re: connecting the phone's mp3 player to a stereo
Apr 8, 2005, 8:29 AM
in the Audiovox CDM-8940 forum

I tried adaptors from Radio Shack and had the same problem with the plug slipping out of the jack. However, even when it did stay in and played through the stereo, I was only getting mono sound out of the right speaker. After looking at it closer, I think that the end of the tip of the plug is the right audio channel, the second tipring is the microphone input, and the third ring is the left audio (for ...

Re: Looking for new phone
Mar 21, 2005, 3:19 PM
in the Verizon forum

If you are interested in customizing themes (graphics, etc.), the 8940 is not good. You cannot change the outside LCD to customized graphics (only 3 different pre-loaded ones). You can however get any graphic you want by emailing to the phone and then setting it as wallpaper. The caller-ID only appears on the inside LCD, so you have to open the phone to see the picture of whoever is calling. The feel and design of the phone is outstanding ...

Re: Question about MiniSD card
Mar 16, 2005, 1:07 PM
in the LG VX-8100 forum

You can transfer anything you want from card to computer and vice versa, but the phone will not read certain files. MP3's are fine. It's the pix, flix, and ringtones that won't read. Same thing with trying to get a pic from your phone to computer. You can move it to the card, but the something encoded in it prevents it from being read by the computer.

Re: Question about MiniSD card
Mar 15, 2005, 9:41 AM

Judging from what Verizon did with the Audiovox 8940, the SD card will be crippled. Anything they can do to make a few extra cents.

Re: VX8100 is a downgrade?
Mar 14, 2005, 1:33 PM
in the LG VX-8100 forum

Also look at the weight. 4.16 oz for the 8100 vs. 3.88 for the 8000. The new 8100 is smaller (in heighth) which is definitely good, but a little thicker (probably b/c of the mini-SD). Interesting that my Audiovox 8940 has the mini-SD and is alot smaller and lighter than both of these phones. :o

Price jump from Verizon
Mar 11, 2005, 1:17 PM
in the Audiovox CDM-8940 forum

Anybody else notice that the price for the 8940 has gone up $20? The LG 8000 and Samsung 890 prices stayed the same. I wonder if the demand for the 8940 has gone down b/c of bad reviews, so Verizon is trying to make more money b/c of lack of sales. Or could it be on the supply side, that UTStarcom hasn't produced enough phones to keep up with demand? Either way, I'm glad I got mine on Feb. 1 ...

I have a Sandisk 256 card and it works fine. Try going into Settings/Security/SD Card, then transfer to new phone. It will format the card into a way it understands. And don't worry it doesn't erase the data...it only re-arranges it somehow. I have to do that after adding stuff from my computer.

battery life is good
Mar 3, 2005, 11:07 AM
in the Audiovox CDM-8940 forum

I'd like other 8940 owners' opinions on the battery life of the 8940. My battery lasted 7 days, making about 30 mins of calls and a few txt msgs. I recharged it the night of the 7th day cause it was at one bar, but I have no doubt it could have gone another day b4 dying. I'm pretty happy with that...how is everybody else's usage?

Re: where do u buy the mini sd cards?
Mar 2, 2005, 5:22 PM
in the Audiovox CDM-8940 forum

When you played tunes through your home stereo, did you get true stereo sound, or just mono sound? I'm curious because I only got mono out of my right speaker. I'm considering buy a cheap stereo earbud w/mic set, similar to what already came packaged with the phone, and then stripping the audio wires and attaching RCA plugs on the end; that should play true stereo sound from the headset jack. What do you think?

Search the web. They're all over the place. I got mine at http://www.bhphotovideo.com Make sure you get one with the standard SD adaptor included; it's much easier that way. If you can wait a while, they'll have the 1GB cards out this year. Otherwise, 512 is the biggest they have, but those just started to come out. ATP brand is supposed to be really good. Good luck.

Can you explain in detail what exactly to change to get the free web. What do you change the Uplink numbers to? What's the difference between the 3 uplinks? What do you use for the host names, port #, auth ID, and auth PW? By the way, how did you discover this? Great find! Any other secret menus? I'm sure we'd all like to know a workaround to get pics/vids to/from the SD card. Thanks in advance.

Email pics to phone
Feb 18, 2005, 9:45 AM
in the Audiovox CDM-8940 forum

I thought that I could cheat Verizon a little and send more than picture to my phone's email to use as wallpapers, screen savers. So I get the msg in my inbox, and it displays all the pics attached. I save them to the phone, then go to Media Gallery/Images, and there they are. The problem is that the pics are all black. Why would they display properly in the inbox but not when saved individually in the Media ...

3/32" to 1/8" adaptor
Feb 16, 2005, 10:42 AM
in the Audiovox CDM-8940 forum

I want to hook up my 8940 to my stereo system to play the MP3's. So I go to RadioShack and pick up the adaptor to go from the phone to the standard 1/8" mini headphone jack, then to RCA left/right plugs to the stereo. It kinda works. First problem is that the plug doesn't like to stay all the way in because of the little rubber cap on the phone. It gets in the way and kind of ...

Re: New Phones

I'm also interested in something new. My NE2 is March 19. I'm looking for something right at $100 (so it's free) with a camera. Right now the Samsung A670 and LG VX-7000 are top choices. But if anyone knows of a new Verizon camera flip phone coming out in March or April, please let phonescoop know about it!

I think it's interesting that the camera is CMOS and not CCD like the 8000. And the fact that the phone is WAAAAAYYYY smaller. This will be the best phone Verizon will offer...in 2010 when they release it. :P

Re: audiovox 8940 mini sd card
Feb 10, 2005, 4:15 PM
in the Audiovox CDM-8940 forum

If you're strictly wanting to transfer MP3's to listen to, you really should get a mini SD card. You transfer your songs from the computer to the card, then put the card in your phone, and there you go. Currently they haven't released a data cable specifically for the 8940; however, some people have said that the cable for the 8900 works fine. You can find it at radio shack, or almost anywhere on the web. With the cable, you'll ...

Using phone as modem
Feb 10, 2005, 12:02 PM
in the Audiovox CDM-8940 forum

There are alot of threads on the LG 8000 forum about this. Has anyone tried using the 8940 to connect your computer to the internet ? I read before that the 8900 data cable works for the 8940. What software do you use to connect to the net, and what number do you dial? Or do you have the phone set on data only? I'm a little newby on this subject. Thanks in advance.

What do they consider "reasonable" usage. What kind of MB numbers would jump out at them? What numbers do VCAST users use? Say I surfed the net for 1/2 hour or so, maybe 3 times/wk, what kind of comparison are we talking about?

Re: Here is the requested proof.. (PICS & VID)

Can someone please explain to me the .3g2 file extension. Is it similar to jpeg or mpeg? Is it used for pix or videos? And is it compatible with all 3 new EVDO phones, or is it unique to the 8000?

Re: 8940 Ticking???
Feb 9, 2005, 8:49 AM
in the Audiovox CDM-8940 forum

My 8940 just did the ticking sound last night for the first time. I did try switching to the speaker phone and did not hear it; only in the earpiece. I wonder if it's something Verizon could fix with some sort of update, or if it's in the hardware of the phone and would require the whole phone to be replaced. Either way, this phone is starting to get on my nerves.

Re: LG vx8100 - Manual Filed with FCC
Feb 8, 2005, 3:59 PM
in the LG VX-8000 forum

NOTE: the original manual for the 8940 said it was tri-mode also, but it wasn't when it was released. I wouldn't count on the 8100 to be tri. Verizon wouldn't allow it. It would be too good a phone and everybody would want it!

Re: How good is the headset?
Feb 8, 2005, 3:56 PM
in the LG VX-8000 forum

Are you able to close the flip while on a call with the headset plugged in? I have the 8940 and can do that without disconnecting; a nice feature. Just wondering if the 8000 does that as well. (Too bad the speakerphone doesn't work with the flip closed too.)

Re: Trouble transfering mp3's
Feb 8, 2005, 3:49 PM
in the Audiovox CDM-8940 forum

When I did it, I formatted the card in my phone, not through the computer. The computer should read the main file, then inside that is the files for pix, flix, and mp3. The process I described earlier remains the same. If that doesn't work, I don't know. I doubt VZW CS would help, but it's worth a try.

Re: Trouble transfering mp3's
Feb 8, 2005, 10:31 AM
in the Audiovox CDM-8940 forum

If your computer will allow you to put mp3's on the card after formatting in the PC, then do it that way. Then put it in the phone and go to Settings/Security (enter your PIN), SD Card/Transfer to New Phone; answer yes. Then take the card out, wait a second, and put it back in. That's what I had to do, and now it works perfect! Strange, but that's the way to do it. By the way, somebody previously had ...
