Are you supposed to leave it in the sun to charge??? Thats not good for batteries. If I put the phone on the dash while driving it gets hot in the sun, even if the car is cool. Office lighting charges a $3 calculator, but a phone? I don't think so.

I buy a new phone every year on my 12 month anniversary of a 2 year contract. I'm at 10 months now and today a rep told me I could get a new BJII for $149 or the new Curve for $99. You don't know until you ask.

Why does the box say: 3 hours talk?? The sales rep said that was accurate.

Looks like I will have 3 similar phones to choose from in December after I throw my Treo 680 off the Peace Bridge. I will never own a Palm again, loved them for 6 years, but I wasted a year with my crappy 680. Thanks everyone for your great comments, but which phone will win? Moto Q, Blackberry Curve, or BJII? What will the cost be?

Guys, Some very intelligent and thought out responses on this thread. If you need to criticize something, you get no credibility from anyone if you don't back up your argument, just use words with **** in them. If you understand how CR works, then you can profit from it. And thousands do. Before there was epinions, blogs, phonescoop, pcmag reviews, dpreviews, etc etc... there was Consumer Reports. If I were buying a $2,000 TV: Step 1 CR Step 2 Web reviews on manufacturers, retailers, ...

PS: asking 42,000 people is as accurate as any poll. BTW: how much credibility can the WEB have when people with bad experiences are more likely to post their opinions than people with average or great experiences? A service or product may have 10 poor reviews out of 20 (looks like 50% of everyone is unhappy!) when in fact the % may be only 1-5%.

Yes you can go ask 5 or 50 people about their experiences with a network, or you can spend 15 minutes with CR and probably feel good about making a decision based on their reviews. What did CR do? They asked the same question that's asked 100's of times on PhoneScoop- Which service is best??? And readers replied. Before there were "forums", epinions, ZNet reviews, dpreview (excellent), stevesdigicams, etc,etc,etc,etc... there was Consumer Reports!!!!

Is there any reason why anyone hasn't come up with a decent home docking system for cell phones? Eliminate your land line carrier. Come home and "dock" your cellphone to your home wiring. Make or receive calls from your existing house phones using your cell minutes. Bluetooth technology should make this easy. BTW: If you have a Wi-Fi cellphone, is there a way to make free calls with your cellphone in a free wi-fi environment?

You can use Telenav with the $99 Bluetooth receiver they sell. You can look at it at a Cingular store.

Questions about the 8700
Jan 16, 2006, 10:00 PM
in the BlackBerry 8700 forum

I presently have the Treo 650 Cingular and everything is fine with it except the VOLUME. Driving at 75 MPH the road noise is louder than the ring volume. If the radio or AC is on, you can't hear a caller. I was thinking of switching to the 8700 on Cingular. Questions: How is the volume on the earpiece, speakerphone, and bluetooth headset (different phones will have different volumes on the same headset) in noisy conditions? Call sound quality (both ways)? Ringer volume? Will ...

What's with this phone? Reviewers love it or hate it. Generally someone who buys an advanced phone like the 650 is needs it for business and will take time to learn it and get it right. You don't drive a BMW and not get speeding tickets. What is wrong with the phone. Are people trying to put 10 palm programs on at once? Will the similar Nokia be better? BTW< You can get a refurb 650 by calling the Cingular cancellation desk.

Contacts question

I love the unlimited contact list with notes. I previously had a PDA phone and wanted a system similar to the Samsung PDA phone I had and this is it. One thing I can't do with the 5600 is search in the contacts and appointments for a keyword. ex: what were the dates of my last three appointments with client X? (search keyword X) What hotel did I last use in Baltimore? (search keyword Baltimore) Any ideas?

Experiment with the 3-4 different networks you can access with your phone to see which gives you a better signal. Go to start, 9 more, 1 settings, 1 phone, 8 networks, menu, find a new network, ... 310150, 310170, 310410 are Cingular. I use my AT&T phone on the Cingular network.
