It seems that the report says that Android Pay will support all Android phones running KitKat or later. Really? Will the Galaxy Note 3 be supported? After all, the Galaxy Note 3 (except for Sprint's version) was incompatible with Google Wallet's Tap and Pay feature due to the NFC chip's drivers not supporting it, since at the time it was sold AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile were pushing Softcard.

Will AT&T conver Iusacell from CDMA to GSM?
Note that Iusacell is Mexico's largest CDMA carrier. I wonder if AT&T plans to convert them over to GSM. Cricket was fairly easy to convert due to their small size, but Iusacell is the third largest carrier in Mexico and Mexico's largest CDMA carrier.

Actually, Sprint does not have LTE coverage in Santa Fe, and hasn't officially launched Albuquerque yet (even though there are some towers being tested).
Apparently, this spectrum is for southeastern New Mexico, so it probably doesn't include Santa Fe.

AT&T released 4.3 on the Note II this past Tuesday (three days before Verizon), yet it didn't get any mention here on Phonescoop.
Why should Verizon get all the attention here at Phonescoop? AT&T is a lot better than Verizon regardless of what anyone wants to believe.

Based on my observations, the colors aren't really all that similar. T-Mobile's so-called magenta is more pink, while Aio's color is more purple.

I'd bet if Verizon (who has less of a need of spectrum than AT&T) were buying Cricket instead, everyone here would be praising it, but since AT&T is buying Cricket, they have to be criticized for it. Totally unfair for AT&T.
LTE 1800 anyone?
So, does this mean we will start having LTE 1800 phones? In Europe there is GSM 1800, and perhaps as 2G GSM is phased out Europe can soon follow suit with LTE 1800 as well.
Albuquerque, NM
I really hope that Albuquerque, NM isn't one of the AT&T divestitures. I understand that AT&T got Alltel's subscribers and spectrum in ABQ after Alltel's acquisition by Verzion, however, as far as I know, T-Mobile still has a larger subscriber base in ABQ than AT&T does, second only to Verizon.
What does anyone think here?

I'm guessing Green Bay might be one of the holdouts, as Green Bay is by far the smallest city in the NFL and all major professional sports. Areas such as Albuquerque, Las Vegas, and Hampton Roads are all significantly larger than Green Bay but don't have major professional sports teams.

No, it will be CDMA/LTE. I don't see what would be the point for Verizon to overlay their network with GSM, considering they have already invested billions in their CDMA network.
So, in other words:
Verizon = CDMA/LTE

As I already said, you shouldn't get too excited about being able to switch phones between AT&T and Verizon.
Verizon has built an expansive CDMA network, and will remain in operation well into the future. There is no way Verizon could immediately overlay the entire CDMA network with LTE and instantly shut down the CDMA network, otherwise they would lose millions of customers.
Because of this, chances are that the majority of Verizon's phones will be dual-mode LTE/CDMA ...

Don't get too excited. Chances are that Verizon's phones will be dual-mode LTE/CDMA, so to use one on AT&T, you must be in an area where AT&T will have an LTE network. I am pretty sure AT&T's phones will be LTE/UMTS/GSM.

Are you sure about this? Looking through the web, I found nothing confirming that USCC has shut down their TDMA/AMPS network. Not that I don't believe you, however, I couldn't find anything confirming it. I know that Alltel's TDMA/AMPS network was shut down around September/October 2008.

Sprint doesn't have the money to buy out US Cellular; they have billions in debt since they bought out Nextel, and continues to lose money today.
If any of the major carriers were to buy out U.S. Cellular, it would probably either be AT&T or T-Mobile/DT. Neither the DOJ nor the FCC would probably approve a Verizon buyout of USCC, due to their recent Alltel acquisition. While AT&T and T-Mobile use GSM rather than CDMA, they will soon ...

Don't forget, AT&T is buying out Centennial, and Centennial operates a CDMA network in Puerto Rico. I don't think it would be that hard.
Verizon sold their Puerto Rican network and subscribers to America Movil/Claro, and Claro has been converting Verizon's existing CDMA network to GSM/UMTS. I think AT&T can easily do the same with the Centennial subscribers there.

Well, AT&T did shut down their previous 2G network (TDMA/D-AMPS), however, their GSM network will remain in service well into the future.

Actually, I believe that about all U.S. CDMA carriers use BREW, the main exception being Sprint. I don't know of any other U.S. CDMA carrier who uses Java.

There were actually two major analog standards - AMPS (and its TACS and ETACS variants) and NMT. AMPS/TACS/ETACS were used in most of the Americas and mainland Europe, while NMT was primarily used in the Nordic Countries and Russia.

Well, USCC is a much smaller carrier than what Nextel was when they were acquired by Sprint. Plus, as I stated, USCC has announced plans to move to LTE, which will be the same 4G standard that AT&T will use.

Still, Albuquerque is not on the list. While I am with AT&T, Albuquerque is mostly a Verizon and T-Mobile stronghold, and it would seem strange that T-Mobile would take much longer than AT&T to launch 3G here, considering that Albuquerque was one of AT&T's first 3G markets after their mass 3G launch. There are still much more T-Mobile subscribers here than there are AT&T subscribers.

Normally, the 1xxx series phones are Nokia's cheapest models, usually being phones with basic calling and text messaging features.
There have been quite a few 2xxx series phones that have had cameras now, however, I think the 1680 could be the first 1xxx series phone with a camera. Can anyone confirm this?

Because both Verizon and Alltel operate their own networks in the Albuquerque market, I am guessing that Albuquerque, New Mexico is one of the affected markets.
Also, does anyone know if the Verizon network is being divested, or is the Alltel network being divested? Verizon has a much larger user base in Albuquerque than Alltel, being the largest carrier here. I would guess that the Alltel network is being divested.

I was wondering, while I am with AT&T, I wonder when will T-Mobile launch 3G in Albuquerque.
