VZW overbrands their equipment to an "Intellect Insulting" degree. The whole thing about standardizing the user interfaces on the phones, for example, is not to make transitioning easier, as they claim...they are always disingenious about their motives, but, rather, to further brand their phones beyond the large and ugly logo. Cynical? Yes. True? Definitely.

Well, you've clearly given this far more thought and investigation than I. We will see how it shakes out, but T-Mo is not standing on Edge for very much longer, which is obvious, and what might that upgrade be? We shall see... It sounds like you work for or sell Spring products. Your comment about T-Mo call clarity, therefore, seems a bit funny. Where I live (NYC), Sprint is hands-down-not-even-close, the worst call quality and everyone ...

How do you know T Mobile isn't doing WiMax? Facts? I keep hearing this from people within the company, who have reasons for saying it. Also, as I'm sure you're aware, the company spent over 2 Billion bucks on new licenses. What might they be doing with all those?

Why is that crazy? What are you basing that on? Do you work for T-Mobile? I'm reporting what several T-Mobile employees, fairly well up the chain, not salespeople, related to me. Maybe it is crazy...but why is that crazy?

I've been told by a number of T-Mo peeps that they are skipping 3G altogether in favor of WiMax, which they plan on rolling out inside of the next year. Has anyone else heard this?

This time next year T-Mobile will've skipped 3G entirely and have WiMax. After switching from VZW, to my surprise, I not only am experiencing comparable service in my area (NYC) but better reception and sound quality, hands down, then with VZW, which I agree, is solid as can be.

I wonder if you actually own a Pearl. Also, what does "Fully Functional" mean? I was extremely sceptical myself, coming from the full Querty Keyboard of the Treo. The keyboard does everything a full one does, so I don't really understand what you mean about "fully functional" which implies that the keyboard doesn't work. It does take time to acclimate to it, but now I type faster than on my treo keyboard because there are less ...

As someone who had Verizon for a loooong time (bell atlantic)...I recently switched to T-Mobile and I can tell you that I am so much happier with T-mo than MacWireless. I just hated the direction vzw has been going, their customer service is plummetting, their pricing structures are insulting. T-mo's coverage and voice quality is actually better, if you can believe that, atleast where I am, right in the middle of NYC. Its not even ...

Actually, I just switched to T-Mobile from Verizon...which I've been waiting to do for quite a while...and I couldn't be happier. The coverage, plop in the middle of New York City, is, believe or not, better. The sound quality on my BB Pearl is, hands down, superior to my old Treo 650. There are so many little reasons why I like this company better than MacWireless. Come on in, the water is fine!

So, Boogie, are you switching back to VZW? Sounds like CingaTT is working well for you...? Yeah, I used to love my palms...and I loved my Treo but I just couldn't stay with vzw anymore...AND...interestingly...BB is claiming they can get speeds close to 3g on their devices with EDGE, which sounds like hogwash...BUT, I have to say, comparing the speed I'm getting T-MO EDGE on the Pearl against evdo on a more encumbered wm device, they are ...

Thanks for this. After spending a week with the Pearl I'm thrilled. There is a definite learning curve but one of the advantages is that, since there are so fewer keys, you quickly intuit where they are and can go pretty fast. I'm also amazed at how the suretype learns your words and that makes things go faster as well. I also have to say, and this was a real surprise, that here in NYC, ...

Totally hear what you're saying and I am holding my breath just a bit. As a gadget freak I would go ATT in a heartbeat but I have to negotiate w/the wife who's whole family is with VZW...so my faves is the compromise. I'm hoping it works out because Verizon has pulled a number of things lately that feel very shoddy and disrespectful to a longtime customer. I testing out T-Mobile right now to consider switching, as, unfortunately, VZW has fell down, for me, in certain areas...but if the coverage doesn't cut it I'll continue. Let's face, it needs to work when you need it! Thanks again, most helpful.

Did you ever get used to the Pearl keyboard? I'm considering one but I'm used to the full querty of the treo...which is very well made but a bit cramped for alot of emailing...and why did you get rid of the Pearl after, presumably, a short time? Thoughts?

Thanks for this info, really most helpful. As a mac guy I certainly have to think twice before getting involved with a windows device. And I've played with them in stores and they are certainly not as efficient as the palm os. As you mention, far more steps then there should be to do something fairly simple. Thanks again.

OK...why would you prefer RIM to WM? It seems that, although RIM is easy to use, its also overly simple and antiquated. I'd love to hear why you prefer it to WM as I'm considering switching to one of these from a PalmOS device.

As someone selling this device/working in the industry I have a couple questions for you; Do you know if Verizon (always late when it comes to updating hardware) will be putting out the 750 or some Palm update anytime soon?...and secondly, have you seen good success syncing the windows-based Palms with Macs, presumably using Missing Sync...? Thanks! On Battery life, I've had my Treo 650 for 2 years and the battery life is fantastic for this ...

Thanks for this info! My contract is up in a month and I'm shopping around. I agree, for a data heavy user, despite V's evdo network, it seems almost any other carrier makes more sense. Here NY, the voice coverage seems the best...and you pay for it! But I'm shopping now and, at the very least, working on gaining leverage to get a sweeter deal from V...or leave. Thanks again. Any further thoughts always welcome.

Time out...you have Verizon AND T-Mobile? Interesting. Which do you like better? Depends where you live, of course. I'm very seriously wanting to move to T-Mo which would mean leaving the comfort of the excellent vzw coverage here in NY. How's T-Mo. I checked out the Dash the other day and was blown away. Liked it much better than the Q, no question. So I'm having phone lust...any thoughts on these two carriers head ...
