I completely agree with Rich here ... I was actually afraid of getting segmented into this place where I was used to Sense and would end up wanting a phone that didn't include it. Because of this, and this alone, I got the DROID. I don't like the external keyboard on the DROID, and the internal one is not as good as the Sense version on the Eris. I simply wanted a stock UI experience on a ...

That is hogwash. You seem to make a lot of assumptions based on a little information. Tell us, what laws exactly are Toyota immune from that GM is not? Toyota has very few union plants, and GM has a ton of union plants and existing union contracts, not to mention huge sunk costs. THAT is their problem, not these mysterious laws you mention to help the Japanese. That is silly.

Doesn't the 6133 have A2DP? I have one, and I haven't used it yet, but the tag at the store said it supports "Stereo Bluetooth" and Nokia lists their stereo bluetooth headset as a compatible accessory on their site. Love the phone, btw.. ;)

What, because of the AT&T purchase? Subscriber numbers don't even matter anyway. Why can't everyone just use whichever service you like and quit harping about it? Just because more people vote for one political party or the other doesn't make what that party is doing better or worse. I just travelled 12 hours each way to an event to see 200+ Cingular customers walking around playing with these ring tones you're talking about, with no service. Meanwhile my Verizon ...

I bought that, sealed in a package and unable to open it to see how thick it was. I knew it was pretty thick, but man, it is THICK! 1500 mah, but still. I think I'll just get an extra standard battery. It truly is very hideous and uncomfortable to carry with a huge square sticking out the back. Plus, the battery doesn't even seem to be made by Samsung, which I think is sketchy. ...

You just made a whole lot of assumptions about me. I did not (and do not) affiliate myself with any party or political ideology. You just categorically grouped my beliefs along with the views of a sub-section of our population based on your narrow view of politics. Politics are not black and white, there is a large area of grey in the middle. I am in that grey. That doesn't make me unintelligent, that makes me ...

You're asking a lot from a CDMA carrier! They might give you a hint of some sort of locked proprietary memory slot that only works with their files from Get It Now or Power Vision, but A2DP? Now that's just funny. Good luck with that!

I blame Nokia because they branded it. Just like I'd blame GM if I bought a Chevrolet Equinox and realized it had an engine made in Shanghai, China. Or, I'd blame myself for buying a GM car I guess. I would take cred for that. I shouldn't compare an SK Teletech handset to a GM car, that's just mean to SK Teletech.

You're right, they haven't done anything nice for us. For those of you who are as uneducated as the poster above me, what they have just done is create an immediate 13 billion dollar hole in our budget, along with a recurring 4 billion dollar+ hole yearly thereafter. While I am not necessarily against getting rid of this tax, we need to find funds to replace that money in our budget that is already stretched farther than any other president in ...

In the FCC document LG applied for only 850/1900/2400 (north american + bluetooth) bands. Does this mean that the previous information is incorrect, or do they just not have to apply for those because the phone won't transmit on them in the US ?

This is an incredibly smart move on Samsung's part. A LOT of people want a BlackBerry flip, and RIM doesn't seem to want to make it. If you don't want to make it, why not license your keypad and e-mail software to someone else and let them make it? Enter Samsung! Awesome. Quad-band. Thin clamshell. HOME RUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There are plenty of places that one or the other works and the other doesn't. There are places around here that GSM doesn't work that CDMA does and vice versa (honestly). I would say CDMA still has a larger voice footprint (obviously not data), but that alone is not enough to make me stay. As far as I'm concerned, coverage is all they have, and that's only for now. For crying out loud, T-Mobile increased their coverage ...

By the way, before I get flamed or start a flame war, I was just saying that a you're right, a lot of their customers do just want to make calls. Before switching to "the dark side," my wife had the VX-3300, which I am assuming is the predecessor to this phone. It was pretty decent. Didn't get quite as good of a signal as my V710, but it was okay.

That's why they're with Verizon! If they want their phone to do anything else, they have to go with someone who doesn't cripple them! Sorry, had to say it. -Recent GSM convert (and yes, the network is actually just fine on the dark side!)

Is this really going to NOT be QVGA? Since it's European sister-phone is, and the T-Mobile version is, why wouldn't this one be? Hot phone, but if they take out the QVGA, it's just another thin slider.. :( The screen is what makes the T-Mobile version so amazing!

As a user with Verizon AND Cingular, who has owned multiple phones (like, 50?) for both, I'll shed some light on this person's comments. 1. I love Cingular, and would say that their network HERE at least is better than Verizon's. HOWEVER, Verizon has the lowest dropped call rate in the industry at 2% national average, which is a fact, look it up. My source is Consumer Reports. Though Cingular's network is definitely better here (and ...

Not that I am aware of, though I had 3 separate Verizon RAZRs before finally figuring out that they rushed them out for Christmas '05 and they sucked. Numerous issues with each one, plus of course the Verizon UI. Only had one phone without it (that small Nokia with no Bluetooth), so I switched to Cingular. I couldn't be happier, the service is actually great.

Gee, that was helpful. Anyway, I think the question was relevant. My wife got a pink RAZR on February 14th (yes, for Valentine's Day) and it displayed the problem. It was horrible. You'd try to make a call, and when you could, it would almost immediately hang up. The longest phone call it ever made was about 1 minute and 30 seconds. We sent it back to Cingular and got a new one. This one was different, and ...

Why does this phone have an antenna?
Mar 6, 2006, 5:01 PM
in the Samsung SGH-ZX10 forum

So, both UMTS phones that Cingular released today have antennas. Does this mean these phones NEED them, or are patch antennas still going to be fine with UMTS as they were with GSM? I know most VZW phones have antennas and it sucks. I wouldn't think that it would matter as the bands are still the same, but does the air interface require it for some reason?

For what it's worth, my Blackberry 7250 worked as good or BETTER in most places than my Motorola V710, which is often revered as the best Verizon phone for "RF." My father's Treo 600 (yes, 600) won't make calls in his house, and the Blackberry works great, even throughout the basement. I mean 100% clarity, 0-2 bars throughout. No dead spots whatsoever. Treo 600: 0%. I dig the 700, but I am VERY leery of it's reception.

First off, great article. I found it really informative! I'd like to see some info in a primer not necessarily about GSM vs. CDMA, but the differences of how the future 3G protocols are going to affect voice calls. For instance, I know that EV-DO is for data only, and 1x is still going to be used for voice, correct? But WCDMA (or HSDPA) is going to be used for voice and data transmission, is that right? Maybe some efficiency ...

I agree with the fact that GSM is a much better implementation of TDMA than the original (what we now just call TDMA) was. Sorry to imply that you have brand loyalty, after re-reading both posts, I realize that was off target. I live in a strange area (mid-Michigan). The area I live in is fairly populated, yet I often travel to what we call "up north" in Michigan, or the Upper Penninsula. Analog (and some CDMA 800) is ...
