Re: MMS & Predictive Text?
To answer a part of your question I forgot is this. If the other person has a phone that is MMS capable then they will get the message as an MMS, no links to click. However when they send you a picture it will come in as an SMS with a web link to view the picture. Minor inconvenience IMHO although I do wish Sprint would roll the ball on getting MMS on WM PDA and BlackBerry's as it ...
Re: MMS & Predictive Text?
Picture Mail at one point did not work with any other carrier but Sprint however they have integrated servers which transpose if you will Picture Mail to MMS. This is the case on non-PDA phones on Sprint with the exception of Palm OS Treo's and Centros which do have Picture Mail. Windows Mobile PDA's and BlackBerry DO NOT have Picture Mail or any form of MMS however there are backdoors on how to get them to work. It does ...
Re: The lightbulb in the attic finally turns on...too late?
I love how it started out with some Sprint criticism and it ends with two people who work for the same company trying to get to know each other. I am rep for a while and I can say that everything has improved dramatically. Yes there are times where you get a lot of frustrating errors but for the most part everything is much better than during the beginning of the murger. As far as the comment about 70% ...
Re: Is that the same charging port that the V9m has?
After doing some searching it does appear that it is the same port that is currently on the RAZR II V9m. If that is the case I saw a Sprint branded car charger that was labeled as being compatible with the V9m and the Sanyo S1. If that is the case it looks like Sanyo is also planning on having micro USB on it's upcoming phones.
Is that the same charging port that the V9m has?
Is this Micro USB the same kind of port that is currently being used on the RAZR II V9m? I did notice that the port is similar to Mini USB but smaller on the V9m.
Re: nothing to do with ReadyLink
Never mind I saw it.
Re: nothing to do with ReadyLink
Really? What's the SKU?
Re: very exciting!
I mean maybe it won't work at all on 1xRTT which doesn't really bother me but what I was saying was that by the time that HPPTT is out, EV-DO Rev.O may be rolled out on all Sprint towers, therefore not having to worry about 1xRTT.
Re: very exciting!
Also by the time HPPTT is out I think that EV-DO coverage, atleast for Rev. O, will be on par with 1xRTT so it shouldn't be much of a problem.
Re: nothing to do with ReadyLink
That I am not sure about but I would believe that Sanyo definitely has a big stake in it.
Re: ...WHAT MADE DIRECT CONNECT A HIT IS...
What I said expect shorter and less details but you beat me to it. LOL
Re: ...WHAT MADE DIRECT CONNECT A HIT IS...
I would believe so especially if Qualcomm wants to stay in business. Aside from Verizon, Sprint is the other largest customer of Qualcomm (stateside) and after Verizon delivered Qualcomm a low blow, I would believe that they would try to do whatever is requested from the customer. I agree that it would be great if Sprint included Qchat in every phone. The only thing that I can see going wrong with this is being that Qchat requires Rev. A ...
Re: very exciting!
I highly doubt that you won't be able to use HPPTT outside of Rev. A data coverage. I would believe that Sprint would make it backwards compatible on Rev. 0 and even 1xRTT. It's like the Sprint Music Store, it was not an available feature on any phone unless it was EV-DO capable but you can still access and download music from the Sprint Music Store in 1xRTT data, it's just not as fast. Same thing goes for Sprint ...
Re: nothing to do with ReadyLink
It's true what Rich said, the only EV-DO Rev. A phone out on the market for Sprint right now is the Mogul, but that doesn't sport any PTT feature. These Rev. A HPPTT (High Performance Push To Talk) phones won't be available until sometime next year, Q1 '08.
Re: Direct Connect is so 20th Century
You are not thinking about the value of PTT to certain individuals, mostly large companies. For the average Joe it may not be important but for a company with a large workforce with teams that need to be able to communicate instantly without having to go through to many options it's great. For example if your company has 100+ employees and they all use PTT phones, your company is assigned a fleet number and each individual phone is assigned ...
Re: nothing to do with ReadyLink
You will need to be using an existing iDEN or CDMA/iDEN hybrid PowerSource phone or a new HPPTT capable CDMA EV-DO Rev. A phone.
Re: Rich Brome: What Ya think About This Statement?
The model number of the phone does not change because of Brew/Java. CDMA version of the Motorola phones usually end in M or C. They just implement Brew/Java depending on the carrier. Model number stays the same. Hence it usually says Brew: Carrier Specific or Java: Carrier specific.
SWEET!
No way! That is crazy. Go figure they would team up with Sprint cause KDDI has a close relationship with both Sprint and Sanyo and if any other carrier in the us is going to be using Sanyo phones it is going to be on powered by Sprint Nextel. Totally awesome. We all thought the announcement of Helio was amazing and they brought some pretty cool phones. Can you imagine KDDI? Maybe we will see those cool Sanyo phones ...
Correction on Two Media Players
Although the phone does have two media players, users can still use the Music Store Player to play the files that they loaded onto the phone via Mass Storage. The user must put the songs into the Music folder rather than the Media Folder. Some people don't want to purchase music from the music store so they don't even bother using the music player instead they use the media player. If you are someone who plans on purchasing music ...
Re: VOICE COMMAND?! and bluetooth...
It sure does and it's probably the best voice dialing software I have used to date. It recognizes any voice and is very accurate.
Re: It does have a name, not just the Alphanumeric designation
I think that is more of a pre-production name for the phone. Like the hybrid phones had code names I believe the ic502 was the Racer while the ic402 was the Racer Lite or something along those lines. If the name of the phone was supposed to stick it would show up the website like that of the RAZR, KRZR, SLVR and FUSIC.
Re: Great for Sprint
Actually most Sprint plans include M2M and most of the ones that don't include unlimited PTT. Also their $15 Vision pack includes unlimited pictures and the $15 Power Vision pack includes some media content and still includes NFL Mobile Application and I believe Sprint Power View. That is a lot more than what VZW offers and the $20 PV pack includes unlimited pictures, Sirius Hits and 1 free monthly music download.
Re: There is a person who bought a BETA version of this phone....
Same here buddy.....same here.
Re: There is a person who bought a BETA version of this phone....
Same here dude. I was told that employees get a full discount once a year rather than the normal 2-year wait for consumers but I haven't really confirmed it. If that is true I should be eligible for the discount for it. If not I will just buy it from the Wireless Advantage Club. Did you get the e-mail about the new changes happening in January to the Advantage Club? Totally cool BTW check out some of the new ...
Re: "2" Music Players?
It is a bluetooth profile that allows you to use stereo bluetooth headsets to listen to music. I believe that headset has to support the profile as well in order to work. You wouldn't normally be able to use a regular bluetooth headset to listen to music even if the phone supports it.
Re: "2" Music Players?
Agreed! Besides since the MM player is the only one that lets you use the AD2P then I believe it is very well worth mentioning. :)
PTT on some Versions?!?!
Towards the bottom of the page it says PTT on some versions. It also says something about BREW on some versions and JAVA on some versions. I wonder if the Sprint "version" will have PTT? That would be cool.
Re: Samsung Phones--Sprint Priority?
Actually when it comes to the most recent Samsung phones Verizon got them first. The A970 which is the Verizon version of the A940 was released through Verizon before it was released through Sprint. Same thing goes with the A950, the Verizon version of the A920 was also released on Verizon before Sprint released it. As far as the A900, Verizon will probably not be getting this phone as they already have the Moto RAZR V3c. As far as ...
Fantastic Article
Great job on the article. Covered everything from the pre-paid and basic phones, to high end phones. My only thoughts, nothing was mentioned about Sprint iDEN although iDEN was atleast mentioned by the presence of Boost Mobile. 7100i from Nextel would have been a great addition especially since its so sleek and has a gorgeous screen. Maybe some information on services like EV-DO (VCast and Power Vision) and ReadyLink/Direct Connect. Other than that, BRAVO. Two thumbs up.
P.S. LOL on ...
Re: Expected Arrival Date
Our store already has them on display. The phone was launched on the expected launch date (10/27) but it seems like they will not be formally announcing the launch until Monday 10/31 to coincide with the release of the Motorola i870 for the iDEN Network.
Re: $2.50???
Employee Plans no longer provide downloads free of charge and if people currently pay $2.50 for ringtones which are under 30 seconds in length I think they will pay $2.50 to download the entire track.
Re: newer version of tre0 650 ?
Treo 700w which runs on Windows Mobile 5 and had EV-DO. There is also rumored a 700p which will be the same except with the Palm OS.
Re: The PPC-6000, PPC-6600 and some treo-650 are compatible with EV-DO
What do you mean by the Treo 650 (some models)? There is only one, the Treo 650 and as far as I know, it is not EV-DO capable. Where are you getting your information from?
Re: Price
Is Corporate Pricing just Business Pricing? For Example if I am an employee of Sprint Nextel can I get the Corporate Pricing if I am doing a new activation on an employee plan?
Re: Price
Most likely but it's also a buy one get one FREE deal. If only Sprint Nextel will do such a promotion cause that phone is hot. I think the Sprint Nextel price will be lower, around $299
Re: Question
n the 3rd picture which shows the side of the phone? That I believe is the push-to-open button which opens the phone like the i860. The circle by the camera is a mirror and the circle under the camera is the LED flash.
What about the A920
Hey Rich do you have any information about the Sprint variant, the A920? It seems that this phone is due out sometime before the end of the year. Any information is appreciated. TIA
MediaFlo
I guess that leaves the door open for Sprint to go after MediaFlo. I saw a demo video that someone recorded at CTIA and it's awesome plus they can offer live video at up to 30 fps compared to the 20 fps offered by DVB-H. I was kinda hoping that Sprint would go for MediaFlo, I think it will be a much better technology anyways.
Re: Which Carrier?
It does say that it is carrier dependent and it also says that it supports JAVA. It may come for both Sprint and Verizon. All Nokia phones that come to both carriers mentione BREW in the specs so I say it's up in the air and can come for either or both. I hope it comes to Sprint cause it's a nice phone.
Yahoo Music Unlimited?
Does this mean that these cards/phones that support that cards will be able to transport music from Yahoo Music Unlimited without the per track price simply the monthly subscription price? If so that is aweseome! I have been waiting for Yahoo Music Unlimited to be supported by Mobile Phones. Watch out iTunes!
