Consumers have been unable to lock phones since a provision of the Digital Millennium Copyrights Act expired in January.
I'm not aware of too many consumers that want to be able to lock their phones. Maybe you meant unlock.

Or to put it another way, government telling you (being individuals and corporations) how to run every aspect of your life including financial.
So yes, socialism.
so assuming that you live in the United States you do realize that your government was created based on some socialist principles. Those Social Security checks, Welfare, Medicare, Medicaid, public schooling and others are all socialist programs, right?

I'm so excited I can't hardly stand it! I just want to hear the word IPHONE and Verizon!
Why would Apple let VZW steal their thunder and announce the iPhone? They didn't let AT&T announce the iPhone for their network. I bet it's just an announcement for WP7 on VZW.

i'm waiting for the carriers to start assessing a charging fee every time you charge your cell phone.

if that were the case then wouldn't they give some of that "monetary damage" to the people who actually got the telemarketing calls?

i can't believe it has to take congress to change this. it should be a given for safety.
hopefully other cities will get it soon.
how is this a safety issue? the nyc subway has been in operation for over 100 years and no one back then said "i need a cell phone on the subway for safety".
i'd actually be more concerned with the possibility that a terrorist could plant a bomb on a train and ...

Why not have a phone with all three GPS, WIFI and Camera in it. You make Moto Q and Curve with camera and GPS but no WIFI or blackberry 8820 with wifi and gps and no camera. Verizon seems to have better phones than u have.

Re: They'd better!
well most carriers don't get into crippling like vzw, but they all customize their phones. if you buy directly from moto or nokia you can get an unlocked, unbranded phone which is much better than some of that garbage the carriers put on the phones they sell. i can't stand that stupid orange splat and the "be safe, be courteous" on cing branded phones.
and i think selling the phones out right is the way to go. ...

Assuming the t709 has the ability to tether or make a bluetooth connection with your laptop, then yes, you'll be able to access the internet anywhere there's Wi-Fi available.
i thought the wifi feature of the phone was for UMA.

well, for $1100 you could have gotten a laptop that did more than play tetris...

Re: Why not buy the Western Wireless GSM network?
where is the logic in that? if there is no benefit in owning the network then why doesn't t-mobile just sell all of their network and then launch their brand as an mvno?
Re: maybe not.....
trust me if a back room deal was being worked on between t-mobile and some other carrier you and your director of event representatives would not be privy to that information. at best you'd find out about an hour before the press release was sent out.

besides have you seen the way parents spoil their kids today?
Re: Using CDMA Phone In China???
yeah, but at least if you have a world gsm phone you don't need to rent when overseas. you can just go to a local service provider and pick up a prepaid sim with a local number for a few bucks.
