in the HTC SDA (USA) / SP5m (Tornado) forum

Not to stand up for T-mobile, but this is really an issue with Windows Mobile 5; T-Mobile and the manufacturer of the SDA have nothing to do with it. In other words, the SDA is a mini-computer running Windows Mobile 5.0 that you can get calls on through T-Mobile's network. If the Windows operating system doesn't function they way it should (by deleting emails, and not even having the option to change the preference), you (meaning we, ...

in the Article: RAZRs Slowly Return To Retail forum

I think Verizon has better reception because most of their phones are bricks. They've got so much antenna jammed up in their, they can't help but pick up a stronger signal. The RAZR was the first phone they had that approached decent, and even the Verizon version of the RAZR is thicker than the GSM version (albeit only by 1 mm). All the innovation in cell phones these days is on the GSM side---whether or not ...

Re: $6 T-Mobile Web Plan (T-Zone)
Mar 2, 2006, 1:12 PM
in the HTC SDA (USA) / SP5m (Tornado) forum

I think you guys need to figure out what you want (and I'm just using "you" in the generic sense, not directed at anyone). T-zones will give you full internet access, but only where there is a t-zone (e.g. starbucks). If you want full intenet access wherever you get cell reception, then you have to get an internet plan. With this phone, I'd recommend starting with the lowest priced no-megabyte-restrictions internet plan, and then work up ...

It's called the Cingular 2125 over there, but the casing is different and it lacks wi-fi. Otherwise, it's the same. If you unlock either version, you can use it on any other GSM carrier (e.g., T-Mobile, Cingular). I'm not sure if anyone has figured out how to unlock this phone or not.

I've used both 256mb and 1gb Sandisk miniSD cards, though I haven't heard of any problems with any brand or size of miniSD card. I bought the 256 from ecost.com and the 1gb from amazon.com

MMS messaging settings
Feb 15, 2006, 6:27 PM
in the HTC SDA (USA) / SP5m (Tornado) forum

Can someone post the T-Mobile MMS settings for this phone? I assume that it is in Messaging / MMS / menu-->options / 4: account options / 2: MMS / menu-->MMSC Settings and then hit menu--->Edit on whichever one has the green checkmark next to it. Thanks in advance. I imported the QTEK version of this phone, but don't know the T-Mobile MMS settings.

The dedicated media buttons on the front are a little clumsy; or, rather, not as seemless as a dedicated MP3 player device, but once you get around it, there really is no point in carrying two devices, you just need this phone. First off, though, I don't use the Library function of WMP 10, so if you do, then maybe this will be different for you, I don't know. But I've found that when you press the "play" button ...

You could just wait and get a T-Mobile SDA phone (out in mid-February). Same phone, but with wi-fi. If you wanted Cingular, you could just unlock it (don't know where, but I'd imagine that it won't be that hard to figure out how if you really looked). OR you could buy a QTEK 8300 or QTEK 8310 or the imate SP5M, or any of the other phones that are based on the same architecture...they all have ...

Calendar in WM5 and syncing
Jan 23, 2006, 5:15 PM
in the HTC 2125 / 2100 (Faraday) forum

I have synced my device with my work computer so that the items are duplicated on each. Is there a way to prevent the "reminder" function in the Calendar for Outlook from going off on my device? In other words, I want the Calendar on my computer to remind me 15 minutes before an appointment, but I don't want my mobile device to also start making noise. Is there any way to do that? Check this blurb out: https://www.phonescoop.com/news/item.php?n=15 49 Same phone as the 2125, but it has Wi-Fi. Doesn't mention anything about pricing. I imported the european equivalent of the HTC Tornado (mine was the Qtek 8300), and the Wi-Fi is definately neat. My city has a few free Wi-Fi hotspots, and they are in neighborhoods with lots of bard and restaurants, so I can generally find free Wi-Fi coverage (not to mention in my apartment building where the phone seems to pick ...

in the HTC 2125 / 2100 (Faraday) forum

I've got the Qtek 8300 (slightly uglier than the 8310, but with dedicated media buttons), and it's got EDGE. I've had no problems with reception (other than T-Mobile's normal crappy coverage), but I also had no problems with reception on the SMT 5600. The Wi-Fi kicks ass. I can see why Cingular would want to cripple their devices and not offer it; if you are in a densely populated area, you can almost always find an unsecured WiFi ...

So if you have multiple numbers for one contact, how do you set which number should be the "default" number for that contact? In Windows Mobile 2003 there was a many option that set this, but I can't find it in Windows Mobile 5.0.

Upgrading from a Blue SMT-5600 to Cingular 2125 & data plans question
Dec 14, 2005, 4:16 PM
in the AT&T forum

I'm still on a AT&T Wireless plan with an SMT-5600, and would like to upgrade to a Cingular 2125 phone (wiht a Cingular plan, natch). My contract period is over. (1) Are there any discounts available because I was an AT&T customer (for reference, I went online and used the 'upgrade for former AT7T wireless customers' process)? If I could choose, I would choose a 1 year agreement even if it means spending more for the phone. Would ...

It's your lucky day! The replacement for the SMT5600 is on its way (though, when exactly it will be released is anyone's guess; according to various forums, brick and mortar stores in Texas and Flordia already have it). It is called the Cingular 2125 and it doubles the internal RAM of the SMT5600, adds a 1.3 megapixel camera, adds a bigger & brighter (if that's possible) screen, and numerous other enhancements. It basically looks exactly like ...

Re: $60--promotion price--a month?
Dec 6, 2005, 3:52 PM

Yea, but cable and/or DSL is a lot faster. I use Verizon DSL and it is 3Mbps (down) / 768Kbps (up), Cingular's 3G service is 400-700 Kbps (presumably, both ways). So its not really a replacement. It'd be like paying for both Premium Cable and Satellite TV---you're essentially paying double for the same thing, even though you get a little extra by having both (Satellite goes down, you've got Cable; you've got Cable, but you've also ...

$60--promotion price--a month?

Okay, I can see business users being okay with their company ponying up the $60 a month for this service, but what about everyone else? Unless you are a hard-core laptop-in-the-coffee-shop person, I can't imagine that anyone could afford (or want to afford) this.

your card will work. it depends on what format your songs are in, but even if media player is not able to read them, you can just download a program that will be able to read them. the phone does run the windows smartphone platform, though, so you should check around on how that interacts with macs (do some google searches). Yea, I think the idea is to limit who your children call--be it to control overages or for more parental reasons. There's definately a market for it. Also, I wouldn't be surprised, with holiday season coming and all, that you can get this phone for free or actually earn money through various rebates.

http://www.engadget.com/entry/123400043706623 7/ There are a variety of reviews on various sites concerning this phone--though I've only seen one on the specific Cingular build (I forget where it was, but found it using google, so why don't you spend 15 minutes and improve your google skills if you're really that interested). There are also a multitude of Orange SPV C600 reviews out there, so, ditto about the Google thing concerning these reviews.

what's the price (and terms) on the Cingular 2125? I'm guessing this is the HTC Tornado, that is listed as the HTC 2125 on the cingularextras.com page that was leaked last week sometime. T-Mobile has licensed it as well and is branding it as a "T-Mobile" brand phone, so I wouldn't be surprised if Cingular is doing the same thing.

I'd guess Cingular or you got a lemon. My Audiovox sounds just fine (though, after dropping it once, the internal antenna has become detached and calls get droppd when I overly-shake the phone, i.e. fast walking, no problems when using a headset, though).

At least the company listened and has since changed it: http://cellphones.engadget.com/entry/123 4000253045037/ Not that we'll see this in the cell-phone-retarded United States within the next year (if ever), but whoever is the underlying designer needs kudos for actually improving on the design.

You need a third-party program to do file transfers to another phone via bluetooth. Someone in a post below recommended Smart Explorer, but I haven't tried it. I'm sure if you spend ten minutes on Google you'll find an adequate program. Also, though, I'd set it to Discoverable rather than On if you're trying new stuff; it'll work better that way.

Re: Reception
May 31, 2005, 9:27 AM
in the Audiovox SMT 5600 / SPV C500 (HTC Typhoon) forum

Could be two things: (1) You're in a bad AT&T/Cingular spot (the 5600 will switch networks periodically if one signal is stronger---you could have competing signals). You can force it to choose one network over the other in the network settings area. (2) The internal antenna could have become detached. Easy warranty repair (though you'll be out your phone for 10 days or so).

There's nothing on that CD that you need. The manual is on the audiovox homepage, if you're the type that reads manuals. It did come with an upgrade to Outlook; it upgrades Outlook to the 2003 version, I think, so that it can sync up with the ActiveSync program. But if your phone can sync with Outlook already, then it's moot. And if you can't, you're SOL b/c the Outlook upgrade was Microsoft-provided and came ...

Detached Internal Antenna? (anyone used the warranty?)
Feb 23, 2005, 1:40 PM
in the Audiovox SMT 5600 / SPV C500 (HTC Typhoon) forum

I think the internal antenna has become detached on my phone. The reception has declined (especially when walking or otherwise shaking the phone while talking), and there is a rattling when you shake it back and forth. I think you misunderstood the question, Dale13. The screen on the SMT5600 will go dark (i.e. the backlight turns off to save power) after a set amount of time (you can change how long), and there is no external way to tell if you've missed a call without "waking up" the phone by pressing a button. What I think all of us would want is for the blinking green light (or blue, if you have bluetooth on) to change ...

the start time is really not a big deal. you can get a few days out of a charge, with moderate usage (including using it to listen to mp3s on the commute to work). and, it's not like you have to even turn it off when you charge it. so what's the big deal? still, plan on turning it off and on, though, about once a week or so. i've found that is a more effective ...
