I live in a marginal area for service. I usually get no bars sometimes it goes to 2 bars, but I do get fairly good reception with the phone regardless of the number of bars here. I'm assuming it will get even better when the complete the Verizon Wireless switch that is being built about a mile from my house and they replace the temporary tower with a permanent one.

You should be able to press and hold the little voice guy icon(don't know what else to call it)for a few seconds with either the flip open or closed, you should get a message saying Press Okay to start recording.

I've only had the phone a couple of weeks, but as far I know you can only use the speaker phone while the phone is flipped open and it comes on automatically. You can turn it off temporarily by pressing and holding the clr button until it turns off.

I never stated it was a good deal, It's just not cost prohibitive. And in certain circumstances it can be beneficial for the casual user.
You're analogy with apples is weak at best. The cost of an apple or any product that is already sold for mass consumption does equate in this instance. You're under the assumption that the monthly and daily cost are related to each other, they aren't.
The cost of setting up an account for daily use vs monthly basis are vastly different. It will cost them more to set up an account. Is the profit margin more on a daily account? I don't know, I don't work for Verizon.

I think the whole intent is for business or trial users. It's not outlandish. There were many times while on a business trip I had to stop what I was doing, find somewhere I could get access for either email access, retrieve a document, or get a download. It saved me even a half an hour of my time it would be well worth it. It would easy for me to justify a $15 charge for expenses every so ...

It may not be a phone issue. I hat the same problem with my wife's phone. Somewhere down the line your number may not be loaded in a database they have for valid phone numbers. I had the issue attempting to text my wife from my Verizon phone to my wife who was on what was AT&T Wireless. It's interesting. When I worked for Airtouch, when they were still around, there was a system very similar to this in development. It was structued a little differently, but essentially the same concept.

I'll have to wait and what it's like if it ever comes to the states. I genereally like flip phones, but I'm open to other styles. Intially I didn't like the 9800, but after playing with it a few times while waiting for upgrades on the 8100 I like it more. It's not as big as I intially thought, or maybe it was the hot blonde that had one that changed mind.

It was just a matter of time. I think it's speculative at this point, but I think any tax on the spectrum would be targeted at providers of the service. I would think Providers like Cingular, Sprint, Verizon, etc would push for this with the emergence of WiFi Voip.

My question has always been Why is it such a concern if you're on a competitive network? If you like your service, that's fine. But if I or anyone else is comfortable with their respective network ad are willing to pay price and are happy to do so why should it matter to anyone else?

I got the impression yesterday and today that each store was making their own decision on the upgrade. I think it was dependent on what kind of problems they were having.

I'm not sure if the hack as you call it non-approved. It was a Verizon rep that explained how to do it. I can't address the 1 other phone that has this feature currently.
To me the benfits of the upgrade out weigh any of the other changes that occured with the upgrade. I consider the phone more of a viable music player now with the upgrade than it was prior to the upgrade.

YOu know I'm not really sure what features are crippled. I got the upgrade last night. Yes they turned off the MP3 player, but they'll show you how to turn that feature back on, took like 10 seconds. I reformatted my memeory card. I can losf music files directly on to my SD card through my card reader in either MY MP3 folder or WMA for MY Music.And the phone is louder now, as far as playing music.

The only issue I had with the upgrade is now it says my phone is roaming. They tried flashing it twice, they said try and have it flashed at another store. I'll try tomorrow. No big deal really. Phone still works.

Did you format the card in the phone firtst? The formatting will create sub directories. YOu'll want to load your MP3's in the MP3 directory.

I feel your pain Hockeydog, seems like the updates roll from east to west. We always seem to get it last. I've stopped asking, surprisingly when v.4 came out I got a post card a few weeks later telling me that it was available. Even though it was late it was nice to be notified. I hope they do the same thing this time around.
