I don't think that there's a way to keep the light on between pictures. I not sure that it matters though because the light is virtually useless for taking pictures. On the bright side it is a nice flashlight!

Re: SEEM edit
Jun 14, 2005, 7:22 PM

Who's on first ?? What........ wnrussel's point is that there are many seem edits. A seem edit is simply doing a manipulation of some internal software switches that enable or disable certain features. A seem is a collection of related (or sometimes unrelated) software switches. Certain software which we can install on our computers, allows us to hook up to the phone and manipulate these switches. Some folks have made up seem edit files which will allow you to flip a ...

I don't know Dave's website -- but go to this link in the Howard Forum. http://howardforums.com/forumdisplay.php?f=25 4 If you look through the threads and their authors on this page -- you'll see 'SuperDaveX' listed as the initiator of several links. Follow those links and you may locate the address that you want. I've never registered at the HF -- and I don't know my way around in it very well. Hope this gets you pointed in the right direction.

Re: Move MP3's to phone?!?
Mar 31, 2005, 5:24 PM
in the Motorola V710 forum

Bluetooth now talks to Motorola Phone Tools so that's a plus. Don't have a car or headset to use with BT -- so I can't attest to that. Camera is the same at the lower resolutions -- but after looking at the highest resolution, I would say that it is slightly improved. My biggest disappointment with the camera is NOT a tilted picture or any of that -- but I feel that the focus is very poor at almost any distance. ...

Unfortunately -- you're not missing a thing. The update takes away the ability to do the 'MOVE'. Do a search of this site to find out how to do a 'seem edit' to restore this functionality. It does work!

Re: New Firmware - Charging Issues
Mar 25, 2005, 11:51 AM

Yes -- the side keys get locked. The only thing that you can do with the side keys is pop up the clock. This is great -- because I was always unknowingly turning off my ringtone. I've also got my phone set to answer on 'any key' being pressed -- and you DON'T have to unlock the keypad for this feature to work. You can still answer while the keypad lock is applied. I am very satisfied with the new firmware update. ...

Thanks for the response -- unfortunately, I've done all of that. This occurs with both the 115v and car charge cables. It seems more prevalent with the car cable though.

New Firmware - Charging Issues
Mar 22, 2005, 9:42 PM
in the Motorola V710 forum

It seems that since I've refinished the phone with the new firmware, I occasionally seem to have problems charging the phone. It comes up with a message that says 'Unable to Charge' after 5 or so minutes on the charger. At first it seems OK -- then the message appears. It seems as if this happens if I try to charge with the phone turned ON (which I usually do), but also when the keypad is 'LOCKED' using the MENU ...

With the 1.40.OR firmware release you don't have to turn off the phone when inserting or removing the transflash card. It is 'hot swappable'.

Nope -- sorry but you can't lock them forever. You just press MENU * and the keypad and side buttons lock. When you're ready to use the phone, pressing MENU * again will unlock ALL of the buttons. The only exception is answering the phone. I have mine set to answer when any button is pressed -- and this still works (internal keys only) when the keypad is locked. I used to have it answer when I opened it, ...

Get the update and don't worry about it. It's possible to unlock the MOVE feature again. Read back a few days -- I posted about it before! The updated features are too good to pass up -- especially the ability to LOCK the keys and side buttons. Before I had this feature I was always messing up the rigers or silencing them unintentionally. I posted a link to the Howard Forums a few days ago that tell ALL of ...

This is the version! There probably is a list that details all of the issues -- but I don't have it at my fingertips. I'll see if I can find a link for you tomorrow. It's not a 'great' camera -- but it's passable. I hate the fact that VZ is playing their games -- but I can live with where I'm at now -- since, with the help of others, I've hacked my way to an acceptable operating compromise. This phone ...

Latest firmware: 1. Mp3's as ringers via TF, only if you're willing and able to do a seem edit, although 1 other user has reported that he CAN do this without the edit. 2. MP3 player via TF - Yes 3. Pix for wallpaper will run directly from TF without transferring, but they can also be moved. 4. Can NOT back up phonebook to TF memory. Use Motorola Phonetools or other means to do this.

For those of you so inclined, here is a reference to the seem edit stuff that I've been talking about. http://www.nuclearelephant.com/pape rs/v710seem.html Keep in mind that the software tools used to do these modifications are engineer's tools, and were never intended for consumer distribution. That being said, they can be dangerous to use in terms of damage that you could do to your phone -- and the software used for the mods is far from bugfree and bulletproof! The best reference for any ...

I've only flashed one phone -- and it doesn't take too long except for installing the software -- but it is a time consuming process to re-establish all of your custom settings once the flash is done. I'll bet they're getting lots of complaints from people having to go back in and set up their phones a second time. If they're smart -- they are coming up with a way to save the custom settings to return the phone to ...

Re you sure that we're talking about the same firmware version?? 8700_01.40.OR Absolutely certain that this DOES NOT allow file transfers from TF to Phone memory -- without first doing a seem edit and then a restart of the phone. (unless Verizon finally came to their senses, which I highly doubt)

That's a fact. I just installed the new firmware this weekend, and ran into exactly that problem. Look back a day or two in these posting, and I talked about doing a seem edit to restore this function. A few really smart hackers on the Howard Forum figured out how to do this -- and it does work.

Sure -- that's what all of this MOVING files back and forth from TF memory to the phone is all about. You used to be able to E-mail sound files to yourself as well. I've heard conflicting stories about whether or not you can still do that -- but I'll try it out later today and report back -- unless someone else beats me to it.

I'm upset with Verizon -- but with this stuff it's all about the thrill of the chase, and seeing what you can learn. If you look at it in that framework, it's no big deal .... it's just fun to see if you can do it. With most engineers that's the way it is -- it drives us nuts, but it's a pretty short drive anyway!

Even though the phone can't read it, can you read it in your SD adapter using the computer?? If you can, you could just unload it to your computer, and then reformat the TF in the phone. Sorry that I don't have any more insight than that -- but I've never seen that one before.

Updating to 1.40.OR Heads-Up
Feb 28, 2005, 12:53 PM
in the Motorola V710 forum

Here are a few things that I ran accross when updating to the new Verizon Flash. I DID back up my directories to MPT -- but found that the directory enties did NOT get lost. The saved ring tones on the phone did NOT get lost either -- but the links betwen the ringtones and the contacts did get scrambled -- and I had to re-link to the correct ring tone for each contact that used a custom ringtone. If you ...

First goto Media Gallery/Sounds and Select it. You should see a list of the mp3's on your transflash card. Cursor down to the one that you want on the phone and Press MENU. Cursor down to MOVE and press SELECT. The song should now be moved to the phones memory. Now you can go to CONTACTS/VIEW/EDIT, and the song should be available for you to select. This is only true for the original, and Super Dave flashes -- and also the ...

When you're in the weekly view -- is it possible to scroll the times up and down to see the entire day?? If you start your day at 6AM, you can only see up until 4 or 5 PM. You can obviously put in appointments later than that -- but you can't see them without resetting the start time for you're day -- unless of course I'm missing something.

Sounds like we're in exactly the same place. I'm just about to pop for MPT, and then I'll flash with the 'Super Dave' version. I'm not sure that I'm up for it either -- but having all this phone power, and such poor connectivity is getting very frustrating. My plan is to go ahead with the flash and if it trashes the phone -- I'm just going to buy my way out of Verizon, junk the phone, and find another supplier. ...

I was thinking even beyond that Dave. I was talking about the 'phone directory' as opposed to the file directory. I guess I'm going to have to break down and get MPT and flash the phone to get the functionality that I thought that Verizon was eventually going to cough up. You'd think that these bone heads would pony up and impliment this stuff correctly, if for no other reason than to protect the integrity of their network. It can't ...

That's the way that I understand it to be. It seems pretty dumb to have done it that way -- but apparently that's what we've got. Seems that it would also be nice to be able to back up your directory from the phone to the trans-flash. But of course that's missing too.

Yes -- go to - Media Gallery/Sounds (Make sure that you are looking at the trans flash memory)If you're not sure scroll down to 'Switch Storage Device' and take a look at what's selected. It might not show up on the screen so keep on scrolling until you see it. Select the sound that you want to transfer, and then press the center 'MENU' button. Scroll down to 'MOVE' and select it. You're tune will be moved to the phone memory. Now ...

Contrary to what I had previously reported -- you can use either mp3's or mid's as ringtones. I was corrected on this about a week ago -- tested it -- and know now that it's true! When in the transflash memory you have to select the file and then 'move' it to the phone memory before you can then use it as a ringtone. Then go back to the phone memory, and it will be available for you to use.
