I agree about OJ for sure. I thought Scott Peterson was guilty, but they seemed to have less to go on than they did with OJ IMO. I felt sorry for the jurors that had to sit on that case for months on end and wondered why the TVs were pre-empted with it when thousands get murdered every year. Crazy!

I personally do like the rollover and M2M features because we do occasionally run over the monthly minutes (it's actually my husband that is more the yacker than I am! :D). Mostly we don't need it and have like 4000 rollover minutes, but like someone said, when you DO have an overage, it's sure nice to not have that severe bite in the wallet. I like a phone to just be a phone too, and prefer good reception to ...

Re: Mandatory Area Code

in the AT&T forum

I know that's coming in my area. We're getting a 2nd area code, so we will no longer be able to just dial a 7-digit number, whether it's a fax, land-line, or cell. Might be the same in your area.

Re: How Cingular Ruined My Holidays!
Jan 10, 2005, 9:57 AM
in the AT&T forum

I had that same problem with Cingular and the delivery snafu. I had to do an exchange by mail on a 2-mo-old phone that went kaput, and asked them to send it to my work. I told them specifically the suite # in my bldg and this needed to be on the address, but they still left it off, so FedEx couldn't find me. As for those who you need to do this at the store, ...

The others are right, doing anything by mail is problematic. Of course, Cingular now does all their warranty exchanges by mail, and I went through a 3-day nightmare with that. You can go to a store, but if it's like where I live, you'll wait an hour to see a rep. These are the reasons I'm no longer with CingT&T. Good luck!

Dec 21, 2004, 9:27 PM
in the Alltel forum

I dunno, I've tried both the LG 5450 and the Audiovox, and prefer the Audiovox. The 8910 holds onto calls much more, even with one bar or no bars. This is true in my area and of course YMMV. Anyhow, use the 15-day trial period if what you choose doesn't work . . .

OK, I'm a woman and will reply to this since somebody was saying we weren't replying here! :) I wouldn't expect such from a guy. Does she know you're on a budget which doesn't apparently allow for gifts in that price range? If not, you need to tell her. I make twice as much as my husband does and am not into $350 purses. (I would like a RAZR though, but can't ...

Traded LG LX5550 for LX5450
Oct 4, 2004, 1:19 PM

I loved the red LX5550 and the drive mode feature, but the reception was poor. I've got an LX5450 now, and so far the reception seems much better. Anyone else used both? Thanks.

I feel your pain. I can't even get into a store to even see a rep without waiting 30 min or more. And now they're gonna take on all of ATTWS's customers when the load is already too huge. :o The next few months will be interesting indeed for Cingular customers.

Thanks for the info, MobileMerc. The LG 5550 I have now is so-so on reception. It garbles the words some, and it sounds like I'm in a box sometimes. I love the phone and its features, but I need good clear communication since I don't have a land line anymore. The LG also has a slight static most of the time, which drives me nuts. It will go back to the store tomorrow and ...

Thanks for the input. Do you travel much, or do you stay mainly in your home calling area? I know you occasionally get a bad apple with customer service, but I'm looking for coverage and relative ease of getting in and out of the store. Cingular's stores in my area are so packed now, it takes 20-30 min. to get in to see a CSR at the store, that's if you go on a weekday at ...

Thanks for the info. Those maps can be confusing as far as trying to figure out what will work where. I'm mainly interested in voice coverage. I like text messages too, and you're right, coverage is spotty in rural areas, whichever carrier you're with. I don't do a lot of data transfer. I do travel to rural areas occasionally, and I do travel out of state sometimes. So the America option will cover ...

Alltel's Nationwide Coverage
Sep 26, 2004, 5:11 PM
in the Alltel forum

I'm considering a switch from Cingular, and Alltel is the only other carrier in my area that seems to have true nationwide coverage. My SO had Alltel last year but had woeful problems with coverage once they got out of the urban area and therefore cancelled. Their coverage map on the website seems comparable to Cingular's nationwide coverage. Any experience here? Is their customer service any good? Thanks.

Thanks for the info, that's what I was afraid of. I do spend most of my time in an urban area, but also do find occasional reasons to wander off the beaten path (job esp.). Cingular's customer care seems to have take a nose dive, but unfortunately in my area, there's no competition with them as far as coverage (both nationwide and local). Thanks.

The 2nd replacement phone they sent works, at least for now. So hopefully I won't have any more problems and you won't have any to begin with! Hopefully they'll last til upgrade time.

Thinking About Switching from Cingular
Sep 25, 2004, 4:35 PM
in the Sprint forum

Hi, I'm thinking about making a change. I've been with Cingular for many years and was very pleased with them before, but have had not good experience with their service of late (that's another story, no disrespect to individual Cingular CSRs who are on this board). Anyhow, my concern is having decent nationwide coverage. Cingular is tops in that in my area. I saw Sprint's coverage map on their website, and it appears that if ...

I saw the one on their website, and I agree about thin coverage here in MS, so that's why I'm stuck with Cingular. I'm in a contract, and really have no choice here. Normally I vote with my wallet when faced with shoddy service, but this is an instance when I can't even do that. Thanks for checking for me. Unfortunately I do travel off the main thoroughfares!

I disagree about Home Depot. In the past they've been good about returns. I'm sure that too will change and go downhill, but I've had good luck with them.

In my case, they sent the first one to my house, told me I had to be there to sign for it. So I took off work, and they sent me a "reconditioned" phone that apparently no one worked on. It didn't work at all. Furthermore, I was told by the FedEx man that he needed no signature, so taking off work was in vain. So after hours on the phone trying to explain this, ...

Yes, I realize there are excellent CSRs out there, have even been helped by some. This makes me miss the real-person service of the techs that used to handle things even more. But this particular thing I'm trying to get done has been one fiasco after another. I'm actually pretty forgiving if the company will make things right. It's just that they don't seem as willing to do so as they used to. True, ...

If I buy a weedeater at Home Depot, I don't care if Homelite or Stihl made it, I'm going to take it back to Home Depot if there are problems. Cingular sold me the phone, not LG.

But if they DO still have your phone, it's much easier on us, the customers, to do it at the store.

Just for kicks and giggles, I decided to call Cingular to ask them this question re: the 6340i and the GSM SIM card. The lady said, oh no, the GSM SIM card definitely won't work in the GAIT phone. I said well, I tried it and it actually does work. She said she doesn't know how. So there you have it folks!!

Thanks for the info. I would call Cingular and ask directly, but after the incompetence with which they've handled my attempts to get a replacement phone, I doubt I'd get a straight, correct answer.

That's just great!! I don't know why they're doing this, certainly not to improve service, because it's a huge inconvenience to customers to be without service for days on end. I can't believe they need to cut costs, but I guess someone's gotta pay for the gazillion dollar bonuses for the CEO etc. They used to be the best at customer service, but that's so not true anymore. And I'm hostage to them because every ...

Mississippi. I just want to be able to go into the store and handle my business with a real technician, who can actually LOOK at my phone. This is all I ask. And they used to have this, but have cut back, I can only assume for reasons of corporate greed.

Exchange by mail sucks then. But customer service (not the dept., just the concept) has gone downhill since they no longer do repairs and exchanges at stores, causing me, the paying customer, to have to go thru all this BS. So I still stand by original statement.
