Thanks for the insight Vegainey. I forgot that there is already a shortcut for my contacts with the right soft key. However, the phone does allow you to do a shortcut for phonebook, but only for a specific contact. Perhaps this is for frequently called contacts to prevent having to scroll through the list?

Design Flaw?

I am trying to assign the phonebook as a shortcut in my menu, but it will only allow me to access one contact instead of the entire phonebook. I was wondering if anyone else is having this problem? If not, any tips on how to correct it?

I've never tried the beeps for text messages but it will do it for voicemail. However you mentioned that if you have a custom ringer in place for a particular contact, it will take precedence over the beep. Will it still remind you repeatedly in that ringtone?

What's your zip code? I've checked three different states, and it's on the Verizon site, with a $50 rebate listed.

From my experience, you have to have the phone open for the speakerphone to work. There was a way to get around that, which was posted earlier in this forum.

Apologies for bothering ya TMBS. I searched the forum and found my answer. I guess the only way to send ringtones is through vzwpix.com I got it to work.

How can I send the Midi files to my phone? I've tried sending them to my phone#@vtext.com and I can't access the midi. What am I doing wrong. Is it possible to send midi files as text messages? Or do I need to send them as pic messages?

Go to option 3-Messaging, option 9, option 1, then option 6 (alerts) Here you can select how you want the phone to alert you. You can do beeps once (low and high) beeps (low and high); custom, as well as vibrate. Here's something very intersting. If you select vibrate remind, it also beeps then vibrates? I haven't selected this one yet, but I think I am going to play with this function some more. ...

You're welcome. What's more annoying than the flashing LED is the beep that comes with the alerts (if you have it set) Somehow my phone ended up with a constant beep for missed alerts. I couldn't figure out what was happening until I realized I had an unopened text message. I quickly found how to deactivate this feature :)

Ironically, I have a program of games which has some great midi tunes. I am able to save the midi tunes as individual files, and I would like to download them to use as ringtones. The one problem is that they are too large. Is there a way to shorten the file to use as a ringtone on the phone?

Um...in addition to missed calls, it also alerts you to voicemail messages, text messages, pages, pic messages, etc...If after checking all of those things the light still flashes, give tech support a call. Perhaps it's alerting to you to some unknow problem that only tech support knows???

Okay, I don't know how true this is, but some friends of mine who work for Verizon stated that the 9900 caught them (Verizon) off guard. The response was so tremendous that both Verizon and Audiovox were overwhelmed. Audiovox (Toshiba) only made a limited number of these phones. Unfortunately, the repsonse from the public was so great, their stock was depleted in record time. From what I understand, the inventory they are using to fill ...

Perhaps it doesn't have an audible alert because the LED flashes red when you have missed a call. While my last phone did give an audible alert, I couldn't use the function while at work (phone had to be in silent/vibrate mode), so I got used to checking the screen periodically. If you just have to have an audible alert, check out the 8900, if they still have them in your area stores. The quality of the phone ...

Re: Annoying Verizon banner on the outer display?
Oct 5, 2004, 9:16 PM
in the Audiovox CDM-9900 forum

vzwtechno...there seems to be some confusion. Is it possible for you to find out if the outer LCD should show the number of missed calls, or just an icon. I could swear that when I first got my phone, it displayed the number of missed calls when I didn't answer it. Now it only shows an icon of a phone with an arrow pointing to it. Thank you.

i wanna know said: Mine does not do this, although it might be because I made my own banner on the inside. Above the time and date (small digital) has a little message (banner) I wrote in myself. That's what I get also. Can anyone tell me if that is normal? I can't find anything in the manual with regards to configuring the LCD screen except for contrast, and type of clock display.

I stand corrected. I was extremely interested in the phone, then started hearing that Verizon wasn't going to carry it, then they were, etc... I got tired of waiting and opted for the Audiovox 9900. While the phone may not be as good as a Moto, for the price, I don't regret it.

Are we talking signal strength with the antenna up or down? With the antenna down, I normally get one bar inside my apartment, except when I move near an outer wall, then it increases to two. The antenna in the up position, usually increases signal strength by one bar Regardless, I've never had a reception problem, or a dropped call. Outdoors, I normally get three to four bars (antenna down).

External LCD Question

Try finding a US Cellular store in your area and look at the phone and then compare it with the 9900. I think you'll fall in love with the larger screen. While I've not physically seen the phone, from the photos, the keypad looks small and flat, which might be a problem if your fingers are slightly larger. Besides, you don't know how Verizon will price the phone. It may be priced like the Audiovox, then ...

Re: something is fishy here

You're right something is fishy...However, I am looking at it from a different angle. Verizonwireless retail stores here in Tampa are selling all three Audiovoxes (8900, 8910, and 9900) for $50 to the new and NE2 customers. All have (basically) the same features (some better than others) except for video messaging...the 9900. Verizon was well aware that the public would get the best phone at the lowest price, the 9900. The phone, itself, is hardly costing them ...

in the Audiovox CDM-9900 forum

Here's the deal: For new customers and those who have NE2 (renewal time), the phone is only $50.00 as a special promotion. I live in Tampa, and there was a guy who came into the store to purchase this phone. Unfortunately, is contract wasn't up for renewal. Since he wanted a new phone, they gave him the option of renewing his contract another two years for the phone price $149.99 or 1 year for 219.99.

From my experience metal may seem more sturdy, but actually it is not impact resistant. Many "metal" phones easily become scratched and/or dented when dropped. Most phones are now constructed of a high impact, lightweight polymer, which are supposed to stand up to normal abuse. Yes, there are some poorly constructed "plastic" phones out there, but I am confident that since this phone is actually built by Toshiba (unlike the 8900) it is more sturdy. If you ...

Trust me, picture messaging works! My girlfriend in currently in Las Vegas for her family reunion and she sent me a picture of The Luxor Hotel/Casino. At first, it only gave me a link telling me I had to go to Verizon's vzwpix website to see it. I've been reading all of the comments on this forum and I am almost convinced to run out and purchase this phone in the AM. While I am aware that this Audiovox is manufactured by Toshiba, I am a bit weary of Audiovox phones, especially after my short-lived encounter with the 8900. I have a Kyocera-2235 and it was a great phone. I know it's time to let it go, but it's extremely sturdy. I've also ...
