Razr2 V8 Users Beware
I just dumped the old version for the new one and am getting a constant error. If you already have the previous installed I'd hold off until the razr2 v8 is officially compatible.
Re: How bug free will this OS be?
This is the first Motorola I've owned since the V635 for one reason, the moto UI.
I must say this new UI is great, it's fast and very appealing with almost the same customization moto users are used to. I've had the phone a week and it's never done that "motorola hang" when answering a call or anything. It's never restarted as well. I know in the US the carriers do a lot of modifying ...
Re: video caller id?
Unfortunately it does not.
Re: Couple questions?
-The keyboard backlighting is white.
-Battery has been good so far. Charging it every other day with a lot of data use. It's usually at one bar at the night of my second day and I seriously mean a lot of data usage. From a full charge it lasted almost 3 hours on a conversation, a little short of what they reported but this is normal in my experience.
Re: Fin keypad better than European versions

There is tactile feedback on the Fin. The keypad is perfectly flat and smooth, but when you press down on key, you can feel a definite "click". It's certainly not touch.
I know what you mean about the Ultra phone this is based on. When I tried the Ultra 9.6 (U300) at 3GSM, I was actually not sure if it had very faint tactile feedback or none at all. I suppose the fact that you could choose vibe ...

I have the m610 with these same keys and I have no problem texting quickly on the thing.
It's based in the D830 and the whole keypad is touch sensitive with no vibration feedback. I know you always say samsung can do no wrong tuolumne as you probably work for them. I'm just trying to let people know of my experience based on using the handset this one is designed from. I just want people to ...

There most certainly is tactile feedback when using the keypad. The Ultra Edition 9.6 (U300) uses a touch keypad with vibration feedback, but this phone is based off the Ultra Edition 9.9 (D830)
The D830 is what I had and it has no vibrating feedback unless that was later added.
Warning For Texters
Like I stated in the news release for this phone. There is no depression or click with the samsung touch sensitive keys. If you text a lot I highly recommend you try before you buy. I had a horrible experience with this model in it's gsm version. The keypad ruined what could've been a great phone for me.
Warning For Texters
I had the gsm version of this model and wanted to let people know about the touch sensitive keypad. The touch sensitive keys samsung is using make texting very cumbersome and slow. There's no click or feel to touching the key like other flat keypads, in my experience this led to many errors in typing. In my experience, the trade off of thin for frustration wasn't worth it. The display and everything else are pretty nice ...
Samsung Touch Keys :(
I've just tried two models with Samsung Touch Key technology. One was on the keypad and the other the U700, which I returned yesterday has them in the same place this model has. I have to say that if you use your phone a lot, text a lot and like to fly speedily through the menu system then these keys make it very hard.
-Press too hard and it may exit you out of a message ...
Re: Hmm. . .
He doesn't.
Re: Please explain and clarify about Spectrum...
Only spectrum in the 1700mhz and 2100mhz is being auctioned. T-mobile's voice coverage will not increase at all from this auction. They are acquiring this spectrum for 3G and 4G data services only. This also has nothing to do with upcoming UMA services.
Re: Try T-Mobile!
Maybe where you live but here it's quite the opposite. Cingular is last in call quality, dropped calls and customer service. To stay on topic, thses messaging plans still aren't competitive, not even with verizon.
Re: Bad Business
Actually yes it is Telephia. They released a letter via the NY Times(wish i still had the link) stating they are not sure how Cingular has come to the conclusions they are displaying on their current ad campaign. Telephia doesn't go to any one carrier and say "Hey, you guys win." They only release the raw data to the carriers to interpret for themselves and they have stated their info does not back the claims Cingular/SBC/AT&T or ...
Bad Business
Who is running this company? They can't seem to do anything right. I'm hoping the rumors i hear of Telephia suing them for their current fewest dropped call ad campaign are true as well. What a patheticly run corporation.
Re: External Display, Reception Quality, Ring/Vibrate
You can set a reminder for messages/voicemail to go off once, every two minutes or every 15 minutes and it alerts you the same way as a new message.
Re: CUSTOM RINGTONES ON THE a930!!!!
This has already been posted in the forum(read below) and on hofo, so much for your copyright but thanks anyways.
Re: pictures
No you cannot. The phone must be flipped open and if you have the flash turned off it will flash red each time a photo is taken.
Re: text ringtones
Yes, this works. The file must be saved or renamed as .mid and cannot exceed 300kb in size. When saving the file to the phone from the message make sure you have the default memory for saving set to phone. If it saves the sound to the card it won't show up in your My Sounds area on the phone.
Re: External Display, Reception Quality, Ring/Vibrate
The time stays lit at all times as well as signal strength and battery strength. Unfortunately the missed call, message indicator part does not. You have to hold the volume or one of the top keys about 2 seconds to light that part up.
It has VibeTonz, so far the only ringtones i can get it to vibe and ring with are the cheesy pre-installed ringtones.
Reception wise and call quality are very good. I also have ...
Re: V CAST music
Vcast music doesn't even play mp3's. You either have to buy the vcast music kit(more money) or convert your music to WMA format. Great idea verizon, switch to a dying format.
Re: Get Bent Over easier
Verizon should take note that Palm tried this and it failed miserably. People want expandable memory for content of THEIR choosing, not the crap Verizon deems interesting. I have a feeling that if it wasn't for their network verizon wireless would be a losing company. The people in charge really seem to have absolutely no clue.
Re: They have got to be kidding!
I think Rich meant to post this on April 1st. How dumb.
Re: DAMN $50 BILLION (CORRECTED)
HAHA You pulled a Dr Evil ala austin powers.
Re: Anybody use this yet?
It's a vast improvement over the other version. You can enter a url, do a google search and view most of your bookmarks on the front page. I also tried downloading a picture i was viewing and it worked with no problem.
Re: Beauty is in the eye of the beholder
Lenses have to get larger to get better results with the larger megapixel rating. It's a lens similar to what SE is using. Unfortunately if it goes to vzw it'll be a lamborghini with the guts of a ford focus thanks to verizons crippling ui.
Re: Very Nice!
We use the business version of this with Nextel. It's overpriced and unreliable. Great idea but poorly implemented. Hopefully this will work better.
Re: Very Nice!
If it's based upon the current location software Nextel is currently using, it's gonna be slow, full of errors and highly innacurate.
Re: April fools?
Not really, because it's not a joke.
Re: Happy Campers
You guys really need to re-read the article. It states flashes abilities, not what Vzw is planning on allowing on their handsets. Read the last line. The day vzw allows a third party technology to be used on their handsets without restriction hell will freeze over.
Re: Holy Crap Batman Thank you
Did you not read the last line of the article? It hasn't been said to what extent verizon will allow customization. Anyone who's been with vzw for any amount of time knows not to get their hopes up when something like this is announced. I remember a similar announcement for their first bluetooth handset and we all know how that went off.
Re: T-Mobile
This is the cdma razr not gsm.
Re: What a joke
Except this one has features in line with the v3i which cingular has bogged down in testing.
Re: Price
Cellular Concepts isn't known for competitive pricing either. I can't believe they are still charging 300 for the V635? Give it a month and search around, you'll find cheaper.
Re: FUNNIEST ... ARTICLE ... TITLE ... EVAR!
I always knew Samsung had eyes for me and my girlfriend. :o
Re: Fugly Phone
I agree, reminds me of a 1980's calculator. I guess it's good if you're going for that retro look ha!
Re: Gar-ba-ge
It's an entry level phone. True it has the new garbage Verizon standard UI but Pantech actually makes decent phones. I think it's probably gonna be a decent phone for it's intended audience. I'll be glad to see Audiovox/UTSC go away.
Verizon Network Overload?
Hmm, i like verizon for the network. Amp's is now using verizon's network and soon another mvno Helio. I'm wondering if verizon's greed to lease their spectrum to these mvno's will have an effect on verizon quality?
Re: overrated ampd is falling
Yeah, they keep pushing back their release date as well. I don't see much hope with MTV influencing the decisions.
Re: EV-DO ???
Yeah, everyone was signing up for vcast for the rollout last June and all of the sudden, nothing. Now they're saying late 2006. How do you miss your date by a year and a half??? It must be the network lol.
