Re: What willl that do for Verizon's over all service?
Someone has to pay for maintenance, and that cost is reflected in whatever fees are charged to verizon for leasing the towers. It's impossible for them to save a significant chunk of change for maintenance - someone has to pay that. Shifting things around doesn't change things.
Re: This drives me nuts.
I agree, loved how the Menu button always just brought up the menu.
This whole "I want to look trendy by not having any menus" thing annoys the hell out of me. The whole point of menus is to not unnecessarily take up screen space with a whole bunch of options that you aren't using right now. It's perfect for limited-screen-size devices.
Re: i wish google would remove those garbages!!
Yeah, in Minnesota I don't think the number has anything to do with the mile marker.
Exit Numbers are way better. Let's say you're exiting onto Lake Street. Thing is, there's usually 2 exits - one for Lake Street going east, the other for Lake Street going west. Well which one does it want you to take? You could try to figure out which one is east and which one is west - but it's easier to just use the ...
Re: Really? You have the nerve to ask $10/mo....
Are you kidding me? Here's a device which tells you where you are, and how to get anywhere else. And you're bitching about $10/month for that?
Tell you what - I'll agree with you, if you want to pay $30/month for unlimited data then it seems like navigator should come with it, just like the google stuff.
Someone is going to go "I can just buy a gps unit and it's free", but that always leaves out that you have to ...
Article Summary is Wrong
Article Summary says "The government also plans to ban truck drivers from using cell phones while driving, which includes texting and placing voice calls."
But from another source - http://www.computerworld.com/s/article/913878 1/Obama_bars_fed_workers_from_texting_and_dri ving
"LaHood also announced that his department would ban text messaging altogether, *restrict* cell phone use by truck and interstate bus drivers"
And how, again, is talking on the cell phone worse than talking to the person sitting next to you?
People get all "mommy attitude" about cell phone use while driving, but it's completely ridiculous. What's the difference between talking on your cell phone and talking to the person sitting next to you? Nothing. Absolutely nothing.
Perhaps we should also ban more than one person per car - that way we can guarantee that no one is distracted by talking to someone next to them. Next we should ban kids in cars at all - if you've ever seen a ...
Re: I'm torn - Like the coverage increase, but like TMobile's better
I think one of them is the new "Android" (google) OS phone, though...talk about everything I'd like all in one package! :D
(Well, except that T-Mobile doesn't have coverage in some of the more rural area I end up in from time to time...)
I'm torn - Like the coverage increase, but like TMobile's better
I'm torn -
On the one hand, I'd really like to see this kind of thing because it seems like no matter where I move to I have borderline Verizon coverage. This would be great for that.
On the other hand, conceptually I liked TMobile's version, where you can use any wireless internet connection, better. It's nice to be able to go over to a friends house where coverage is limited and have my phone work 100% there, to.
Re: WE WANT FEMTOCELLS!!!!
Yes! That's exactly what I want - only I also want the cell coverage Verizon has along with it. :-)
I like TMobile. I generally advise people where I live to get either Verizon or TMobile (At&t sucks here in Minneapolis MN, and I've only heard so-so things about Sprint.) But TMobile...isn't exactly known for it's huge coverage area. :-) It works good where it works, but not at, say, my grandmothers house in a small town in Iowa.
Re: WE WANT FEMTOCELLS!!!!
I have no idea what's wrong with them. ...to be fair, though, I'd prefer wifi phones that made calls over my wireless network. :-)
I think it's a great idea
The whole point of research is to find out something. The point of research on previously researched topics is to verify that the previous findings are true and that things haven't changed.
With the proliferation of cell phones being on your body 24/7, and the fact that nearly everyone has one nowadays, I think more research is a great idea. If it still says cell phones are perfectly safe? Even better!
Re: if i understand right
Yeah, I think the reason they never come out with these is that no one would actually buy them once they realized they have to get refilled periodically. What a waste of time.
Hmm
That would be completely awesome - although, sadly, I imagine that even if Verizon starts offering it, they'll charge an arm and a leg for it...
Re: good for moto
I don't know about that - Motorola's phones are typically rated the best on this board for Reception and Call Quality. Maybe a new CEO will cut costs by reducing those. :-(
Re: It wouldn't be cheap
While unplugging the charger may be the cheapest solution, it's certainly only the easiest and simplest solution for Nokia - not for the people actually using the charger. We're also talking about chargers that cost $1 to make and sold for $30.
No one, including myself, is going to unplug the wall charger to save such a small amount of little electricity. Most of the people I work with, sadly, don't even turn off their work computers when they go ...
Here's an idea - how about the charger actually stops drawing power?
It *can't* be that hard to design a charger that doesn't draw power when it's not actually charging. Seriously.
This whole thing sounds fishy.
Re: Change ring volume/style with flip closed?
Um...or guys who put it in their pocket. Or slip it into a case which hits the side button. Or anyone who actually picks up the phone and hits the side buttons...
Re: Reception
Actually, the Nokia 3589i had better reception.
Well...I can say for sure it had better reception in my house!
...(not nearly as good of voice quality, though...)
And before that there was some sort of Pantech or toshiba or something that was a flip phone, but didn't even have gps, that I heard was phenomenal to...

Re: First impressions of the MAXX
I'm pretty sure the answer is going to be "no", but have you seen an option to Ring then Vibrate on the phone?
Re: Again.....
Hell, I'm a verizon lover and I'd rather switch to Spring than listen to him all day! :D
If there's a question (that's totally off topic), it's this - why does LG make such decent phones for verizon, but such craptacular ****ty phones for Sprint?
Re: phone or sex toy
Judging from the level of vibrate on my e815, I don't think this will be a problem.
Re: Who cares
I care, it totally sucks. Nokia made some of the best reception phones you could buy.
Re: Ring and Vibrate?
Not to say that they shouldn't include Ring while vibrating on the phone, but just fyi - I've found Ring then Vibrate incredibly useful, and am a little ticked that other phones don't have it.
I keep my phone on my belt, and when I'm in a meeting or at a movie, I don't have to worry about turning my phone ringer off. If a call comes in, it starts vibrating, then I just hit the volume button on the ...
Re: Is there any way to remap the buttons?
While the phone is pretty customizable, I haven't heard of anyone being able to customize that aspect of it.
Re: If you want a Verizon E815, get it soon
Wow - I couldn't have thought up a better reason for why you're wrong than you did! Windows vs. Linux is perfect - why is it that everyone uses Windows and not Linux? Oh I'm sure you'll say you run Linux and it's because you're smart and they're stupid, right?
OR it could be that normal people like using the same interface. They don't like learning a new interface. And programmers are the same way - they often only make ...
Re: If you want a Verizon E815, get it soon
Yes, because designing a physical vehicle has anything to do with the ui on your cell phone.
It's because normal people, unlike yourself, have a life and actually have better things to do than spending 10 hours a week playing with the ui on their cell phone!
(Where's that flamethrower smiley? We really need one for this "conversation")
Re: If you want a Verizon E815, get it soon
"It is completely and utterly ridiculous that Verizon wants to put one stupid UI on every single phone."
No, it's utterly rediculous that every time someone gets a new phone, they have to learn a different ui even though their new phone does the exact same thing as their old phone. How many time do different manufacturers have to reinvent the wheel here? There's a contact book, and it holds contacts. We don't need 5 different ways to do contacts.
If ...
Re: Scratching my noggin'...
hehe - That's a great point. :-)
Re: How's the E815 in low reception or fringe areas?
That's the only audiovox I've ever heard consistently good things about! :D
Do you actually have the phone right now - how well is it working?
Re: How's the E815 in low reception or fringe areas?
I've heard on howard forums that the e815 and the razr both have about the same reception.
You could always try it and see.
Unfortunately, the only verizon phones I've heard of that might get better reception are Nokia candybar phones. If you're really desperate, you might be able to buy the old Nokia 3589i that verizon used to sell - it got fantastic reception (I can personally attest to that). Everything else about the phone was a little lacking though.
Obviously, ...
Re: 815 durability? (ie cracking at hinge???)
I can only tell you that I've had my e815 for as long as it's been out, and I don't see any cracking along the hing whatsoever.
Re: 8100 went back for b/c of problems, got 815 ,now it goes back
For anyone other than the dumbass who wrote this post in the first place, one cool thing about the e815 is that you can set up shortcuts. For example, to view my pictures I set up a shortcut and now I just have to press "Ok" then "1" and I don't have to go into the menu at all, it brings me right to a listing of the pictures!
Re: anyway to get the LG software on this phone ?
No.
Re: Does not charge with computer
I've heard on howard forums that if you install the drivers for the phone on your computer, than it can charge your phone with a usb cable. I haven't tried it myself, as I don't have this phone, but if you're interested you might try searching howard forums.
Re: I see .... more business for city wreckers ...
hehe
But seriously, having your phone say your directions to you is a lot better than the current method of trying to read the directions that you printed off of mapquest at the same time you're driving!

Re: Low battery beep
No one has figured out a way to do it, other than turning the entire phone off.
Re: Problem: Don't want to buy v325 from Verizon!
Not that this addresses your question, but if you actually bought your phone 5 minutes ago they will in fact replace it with a new phone, as part of your 15 day "grace period".
Re: Battery Life
I have no standing on whether this helps or not.
But even if it's true, you still don't need to fully discharge your battery *every time*.
Re: Battery Life
Previous kinds of batteries needed to be fully drained periodically, but cell phone batteries use a different technology and don't.
Even with the old kind though, you didn't need to fully drain them *every time*, just periodically.
