Gee, I guess I made a mistake. Stupid me. Phonephreak, you must be a real genius - as evidenced by the fact that you spend most of your life hanging around computer forums. Since you clearly have wonderful people skills, I'm sure you must be a great success in real life.

Re: Signal booster

in the Motorola V710 forum

I experienced the same thing after I returned my first V710 because incoming calls wouldn't ring through my bluetooth car kit. The reception on that first V710 was incredible. The reception on the 2nd v710 that I have now is nowheres near as good. I'm not saying it's bad - it's just pretty average. That first one was unbelievable - I could carry on crystal clear conversations in areas where others couldn't even get a signal.

I'm the one who made the post yesterday about receiving version 3.0 via a Live Update. Based on the responses I got, it was clear that no one really believed me. I don't know what else I can tell you - I opened MPT yesteday, it wanted to do a live update, I let it do it, and ever since I've not been able to use MPT. The version number when I right-click on my MPT ...

Well perhaps I'm reading something wrong. All I know is that when I right-click on the MPT icon, right-click on "Properties", then click the "Version" tab, it reads "file version 3.0.0.0".

Mobile Phone Tools v. 3.0 here?
Sep 8, 2004, 2:57 PM
in the Motorola V710 forum

I just opened my Mobile Phone Tools and it automatically did a live update. After completing the installation of the new downloaded software, I checked the software version, and I find that it has changed from 2.21f to 3.000. The bad news is that now I can't use MPT. Every time I try to open it, it crashes my computer. Anyone else having this problem?

I followed npitlor's instructions, and it worked like a charm for me. I was having the exact same problems as you BJJ. Are you sure that yo followed the steps exactly as npitlor listed them?

Reception problem
Aug 30, 2004, 9:54 PM
in the Motorola V710 forum

I recently returned my V710 to Verizon because incoming calls would not ring through when my phone was paired with my bluetooth car kit. They gave me a new phone and, sure enough, all incoming calls ring through fine now. But now I have a new problem: this new V710's reception is nowhere near is good as my last V710. I can't honestly say that the phone's reception is bad - it's just kind of average. ...

in the Motorola V710 forum

Just thought I'd post a follow up message for this problem. I took my phone to Verizon yesterday with the complaint about incoming calls not ringing through when the phone is paired with my bluetooth car kit. I suggested to the service tech that he try my phone with a bluetooth headset to see if the same thing happens. He said that he didn't have a bluetooth headset to try. What?!! Anyhow, he ...

Bluetooth car kit won't answer incoming calls
Aug 28, 2004, 11:25 AM
in the Motorola V710 forum

I have a bluetooth hands-free car kit in my Lincoln LS that I use with my V710. After some effort, I finally got everything adjusted so that the it works pretty good - except for one big problem. The phone will not ring when I have an incoming call. If I happen to notice the outside display on my phone when a call comes in, then I can open the phone and take the call. ...

Re: Can't get any keytone sounds
Aug 28, 2004, 11:06 AM
in the Motorola V710 forum

No. Although I have bluetooth turned on so that the phone will find my car's bluetooth hands-free kit whenever I get into my car, the silent key strokes I'm talking about are when I'm away from my car with no bluetooth connection. I can hear very faint keystroke sounds coming from the earpiece of the phone, but there are no other keystroke sounds coming from the phone. Speaking of my car's hands-free bluetooth kit, I'm having ...

Can't get any keytone sounds
Aug 28, 2004, 9:49 AM
in the Motorola V710 forum

The keys on my V710 are silent when I press them - that is, they make no sound to confirm the key stroke. I am aware of the "Keytone Volume" setting that is accessed by going to menu-settings-ring styles-detail. Even when I set the Keytone Volume to the highest setting, there's no sound when I press the keys unless I have the internal speakerphone turned on. Aren't the keys supposed to make sounds even when ...

Okay, good. As long as I know that mine's not the only phone that does it.

Re: Cover clicks
Aug 25, 2004, 7:49 AM

Thanks for the advice. The people at the Verizon store are probably going to insist that the click is normal. However, I noticed that their V710 on display does not click. Hopefully, I can convince them that the click is not normal and may lead to future problems.

Cover clicks
Aug 25, 2004, 12:30 AM
in the Motorola V710 forum

I recall reading posts a while back about whether or not the phone hinge should click when it's opened and closed. Some people said their phone clicked, and others insisted that their phone was absoltutely silent. My V710 has a very distinct click whenever it is opened or closed. It doesn't bother me, but is there any reason for me to be concerned. I've got 3 days left before my return period expires.

in the Motorola V710 forum

Thanks hcpollard, that's good to know. I just paired my friend's Sony Ericsson phone with the bluetooth system in my car, and it sounded equally as bad as the V710. That tells me that the problem is with the bluetooth system in my car - not the V710. I'm going to try messing around with the microphone location a little bit to see if that helps any. If not, then I'm going to remove the ...

I have a friend with a bluetooth enabled phone (a Sony Ericsson T616). I'm going to borrow it in a couple of hours and try it out in my car. If the sound quality is still bad, then I guess I've got a problem with my car's bluetooth system. If the sound quality is much better, then I guess the problem is with my V710. If that's the case, then the fact that your ...

Bluetooth voice quality problem
Aug 23, 2004, 9:19 PM
in the Motorola V710 forum

I have a Lincoln LS with built-in bluetooth, and I'm finding that the sound quality of my new V710 when using this built-in bluetooth system is horrible. I've had difficulty carrying on conversations with people, and I never had that problem with my Samsung and it's hard-wired car kit. With the bluetooth, people keep saying that they can't understand what I'm saying. Then when I switch off the bluetooth and talk into the phone they ...

One more question on the antenna. Is the reception really going to be noticable better with an external antenna? If so, does it matter whether it's one of those through-the-glass type antennas? My reception seems generally fine now when I'm in my car, so I'm wondering whether I would really see a difference with an external antenna.

Is there really any reason to exchange the phone for another one if they all have buttons that scratch the screen? Does anyone out there have a V710 that closes without the buttons touching? I've got 6 days left to return this phone so, if there are V710's out there that actually close properly, I'll exchange mine.

Got it - thanks! At the risk of annoying, I have just one more question. It's your comment about removing the small grey plug. That's the earphone plug, so it would make sense that you might have to remove that plug if you were using the speaker that comes with the car kit. But when you're using the car sterio speakers via bluetooth, why does that plug have to be removed? Does the pbone ...

I have the same problem. I can definitely see marks on my display when the phone is off, and the marks clearly coincide with the with centers (and most raised portion) of the 1,3,4,6,7,9, and OK keys. The center keys (2,5,8, and 0) don't seem to touch. I tried the screen protector, but it looked terrible. Maybe I don't know how to install it correctly, but I decided that there must be a better way ...

Re: HANG-UP CUP???

So Level2, if I understand correctly, the cla plugs drectly into the HUC - not the phone - right? If that's the case, then I assume you could leave the cla connected to the HUC permanently and pop the phone in and out of the HUC without touching the cla. Is that right? Are you sure that you need to connect an external antenna, or could you just use the internal phone antenna while the phone ...

in the Motorola V710 forum

Whoops. I didn't read Level 2's post until after I sent my last response. If an external antenna is actually REQUIRED (unlike my Samsung car kit), then I've probably try to stick with my Plan A or some variation thereof. I don't know - guess I need to think about this one.

Re: HANG-UP CUP???
Aug 21, 2004, 6:19 PM
in the Motorola V710 forum

I'm not sure, but I don't think that an external antenna connected to the car kit renders the phone's intermal antenna useless. If it's like the Samsung car kit that I have, the external antenna is optional and, if you decide to use it, it simply augments the signal to the phone's internal antenna by bringing a stronger signal to it. Let me know what you find out if you find that hang-up cup. Right ...

The cable shown in the pictures of the hang-up cup looks like an RF cable. Therefore, I suspect it may be for hooking up an exterior antenna - not for the plugging into the HF box. I'm just guessing though.

Re: HANG-UP CUP???

If I understand you correctly, the hang-up cup will not charge the phone battery or power the phone unless you purchase the entire car kit. So are you saying that the only purpose of the hang-up cup is to hold the phone?

Re: No NationalAccess service for V710??!!
Aug 21, 2004, 9:09 AM
in the Motorola V710 forum

After reviewing the various plans on Verizon's website, I'm confused. I presently have the America's Choice plan. Does that mean that I do not have access to 1X higher speed data service? And on their National Access plan, they show a coverage map area considerably smaller than the coverage map area shown with the America's Choice plan. Does that mean that the available coverage area for talk is really less, or are they simply showing ...

So, does this cup come with power wiring that you can hard wire directly to the vehicles 12 volt system, or do you mean that you have to plug it into a cigarette lighter?

No NationalAccess service for V710??!!
Aug 20, 2004, 11:42 PM
in the Motorola V710 forum

I note that the features shown for the V710 on the Verizon Wireless website does not list their higher speed NationalAccess service as a feature that the V710 is capable of. Does this mean that the V710 cannot only be used as a modem with a PC or laptop computer at the slower 14.4 speed?

I'm in the exact same boat. I need some kind of hang-up cup to charge the phone. I also need it to display the phone so that I can see the caller ID, signal strength, battery level, etc. Although the phone works fine with my car bluetooth system, none of the info on the phone display appears on my nav screen. Let me know if you find a solution. I'm working on some ideas, ...

Re: How do u transfer ur phone book
Aug 18, 2004, 2:01 PM

I have a Lincoln LS with bluetooth, and here's how it works on mine. I can't actually transfer the phonebook in the V710 to the car bluetooth unit, but I can access the phonebook in the V710 through my car's bluetooth control. When I press the button on my dashboard that normally prompts my car bluetooth voice, instead of releasing the button, I hold it down for 3 seconds or more. That bypasses the car bluetooth ...
