Re: A Metro pcs phone

Hi Deardorff, Simply put, it depends if the phone is unlocked. MetroPCS is a subsidiary of T-mobile and uses the T-mobile cellular GSM network. Cricket is also GSM, but a subsidiary of AT&T. In order for your MetroPCS hardware to work, it would need to be unlocked. If it is not, the answer is probably no. One thing you can do is check your MEID number with Cricket: https://www.cricketwireless.com/shop/byod.htm l I believe that if your MEID is locked ...

Do AT&T phones need to be unlocked?
Sep 7, 2014, 2:17 AM
in the Cricket forum

Wow, it's been forever since I've been on PhoneScoop. I'm impressed I remembered my login and password. I'm strongly considering switching to Cricket after my Verizon contract is up in December, since I hear that people with AT&T have good service in my area. (That I moved to after entering a contract with Verizon) With the iPhone 6 coming out, I'm guessing there will be a glut of used iPhone 5/c/s to buy private party. Does anyone know if phones ...

...has anyone else had this problem? The first time I just figured the battery had just died, then it shut off several times while charging it. Right after the battery fully charged, it would still do that. I just pulled the battery and for some reason, it's not repeating the shut-off. Weird. This one will be going back if this happens any more, I've only had it a month.

Any rumors of a 3rd party GPS topo map application?
Jun 23, 2008, 11:01 AM
in the Apple iPhone 3G forum

I've been thinking about getting a GPS for my outdoor adventures for a while. But they're pretty expensive, and the maps you have to buy for them are even more pricey. With IPhone 2 coming out with GPS, has anyone heard of a company that plans to build an app that utilizes the GPS chip with topographic maps for trail finding/marking and geocacheing? I could see the big screen and a reasonable price for functional GPS software be ...

I'm a Verizon customer, and I'm interested to see what people think of this service and how well it works. Do any other service providers offer something like this? I'm not aware, but I haven't looked, either. How much of a threat is this to Blackberry? It certainly is cheaper. I'd love to see Verizon provide a cheaper BB plan than $30 per month.

Not to nitpick, but I think the correct spelling is "reins." Personally, I think if Sprint had wanted to reign (read: rule) on data usage, they wouldn't have reined it in. :)

I think Jobs said yesterday that they do not intend to allow java to run on the iphone. I think they think they already have a winner. Lots of people are buying them, so I'm guessing they don't see much of a need to open up everything. Especially anything beyond the whole SDK release.

I heard that Google set up a small cell network around their headquarters to test android phones. Anyone know what kind of network that is? CDMA? GSM? Both? Something else? It makes me wonder what the CDMA vs. GSM phones will look like from the Android developers. The fact that Verizon will support it is great news, because it should give developers a more incentive to make great phones for those on ...

Your phone doesn't have Vcast since it's a smartphone. However, it does access data with both wifi and Verizon's broadband signal. The broadband access is what Verizon wants you to pay a bunch for. It sounds like you have chosen the "pay as you go" plan. The only data you're planning on using is via wifi, correct? You as mentioned in Tdrussell's reply, you need to call Verizon and have them block all data to the phone. ...

I've just done a bunch of reading up on this on howardforums. Apparently a lot of people are asking about this. Call us cheapskates, or just logical...$45 a month for unlimited data on top of what we're already paying is a lot. From what I gather, the best option is to select the pay-as-you-go service which is required, and the same price as your typical plan. For example, I have the 1400 min family plan. Transflash and Micro SD are the same thing, just different names for the same type of card. You can transfer pictures that you saved to your phone memory to the card and save them to your computer or another phone that accepts the same kind of card. Most higher-end Verizon phones use the transflash card. The best place I know of to buy a transflash card (and any memory of any kind, for that matter) is www.newegg.com. ...

Do you have Craigslist in your area? It's a good place to find people selling used phones. E815s are often one of the best deals to be had. They're still a great phone despite being out of production for a while. Try www.craigslist.org and find the city/area closest to you.

Have you or anyone else had experience with both the 8700 and the Moto e815? I have the 815, and the voice dial works awesome with my 200+ name phonebook. I save the names first name/last name. I love the look and feel of the 8700, but it would be a bummer if it was a step backward with the voice commands. Does anyone know if it's similar/better/worse than the 815? Thanks!

Better signal, more internal memory, WAY better battery life, Motorola software (a plus in my opinion) all stack up to make it a better phone. Compare the phone scoop reviews. Oh yeah, the e815 was the #1 cdma phone in February's Consumer Reports review, from what I've heard.

Re: RAZR v3m Release

No info on the release. From what I've heard, the V3m is exactly the same as the V3c except for adding a transflash card underneath the battery, and adding headphone support for the miniusb port. They didn't make the first razr music friendly, so now with the vcast music out, they want to put out as many phones as possible that can download music. (and increase their revenue) Personally, I'd give the razr back and trade up for ...

I can't stand Verizon's death grip proprietary UI that doesn't allow you to customize anything. It's getting to where there's only a few phones they offer that have a native UI. I'm not overly expectant, but this is a glimmer of hope in the direction of better software in the future.
