I have something similar, an old Samsung that I use when I'm hiking. It's great, and I've even dropped it in a lake! Just pulling it out, and opened it up, and let it dry. I really hate the always sliding dates. I wish there was some better way to know when things are going to arrive. I'd rather that they estimate late, and come out early.

Excellent, now I just have to see if I can wait that long! My MPx220 is on its last legs....

Cingular?

There are a lot of rumors about this phone being released by Cingular. I had a new phone credit coming up, and I want this phone, but I don't want to wait for a phone that isn't going to arrive. Anyone have any good information on when it's going up for sale through Cingular?

How do I enter punctuation
Jun 8, 2005, 12:28 PM
in the Audiovox SMT 5600 / SPV C500 (HTC Typhoon) forum

I just got an unlocked 5600, and it works fantastic, except that I can't figure out how to enter punctuation. On my other phones, when I would cycle through text entry modes (abc, 123, T9, etc), one mode would be punctuation, but that doesn't seem to the case on the 5600. So how do I enter punctuation? Thanks, Erick

I am an experienced programmer (.net, sql, java, c/c++), and I'm curious about cell phone programming. What langauges are generally used? What is the platform? If anyone knows a good resource website, please let me know! A good overview book would be nice as well. Thanks! Erick

USB or bluetooth keyboard?

Does the USB and/or Bluetooth features on this phone allow me to use a keyboard? T9 (or the moto version) is ok, but it's nice to be able to use a keyboard sometimes. Thanks, Erick

Thanks for the info. I didn't figure it was a SIM error, but that was the only thing constant between the two phones (both E316s, but still). Good idea on the refurb! Thanks, Erick

No, it's happened when I have been moving, in a good signal strength area (5 bars).

I don't know if I can swap it, as I did the Amazon rebate. I had a Verizon LG 510 and had almost no problems with dropped calls. And my friends who have ATTWS don't have the problems that I do, so I'm thinking it must be the phone, or the SIM Card. If it dropped calls due to a weak signal, that would be fine, but I'm in 5 bar land when wham, there it goes. Other times, it ...

Massive dropped call problems
Sep 29, 2004, 8:02 PM
in the AT&T Wireless forum

I signed up with ATTWS about 3 months ago, as they had good rates to Canada. I got a Samsung E316 phone, and had a whole bunch of SIM Card errors, where it would ask if I wanted to send an SOS. And the phone would shut off randomly, and sometimes I would need to pop the battery to get it to reboot. So I sent the phone back and got a replacement E316. I've had two SIM card errors, ...

Damn, this phone is just not working out then. I like it, except for this problem. I feel like I can't trust it with anything, so it isn't much use to me.... a pity.

I had a V600 for a little bit, and didn't think it was worth the money. I didn't know it had changeable faceplates. Thanks for the tip on the other two; I'll check them out. Thanks, Erick

Hmmm, this isn't a good sign. I was going to swap for a new E316, but if this is going to happen often, I think another phone is in order.

I'm going to get a phone for my GF on my phone plan (GSM). She doesn't really care about features, but would like to be able to get custom faceplates/lights/etc. Clamshell, bar, etc, doesn't really matter (the plus side of a purse). Any thoughts on a good phone? Thanks, Erick

Phone lost everything

I've had my E316 for about 3 weeks now, and last Friday everything that stored on the phone vanished. By everything I mean all non-SIM phone numbers, emails, games (both downloaded and a pre-loaded), etc. Everything disappeared except for photos and videos. Has anyone else had this problem? I'm going to return it, but I'm not sure if I should get another E316, or if I should go back to the almost great V600. Losing everything was a serious headache, ...

Hacking the phone?
Aug 16, 2004, 3:03 PM

I have this phone, and while I like it, there are a few things I want to change. I don't see any place to change them in the phone, so I'm thinking I might have to learn how to hack phones. Any suggestions on docs/websites? Some of the things I want to do are change the default text entry for new text messages. Right now, the default mode is lowercase text, and I'd like it to start in T9. ...

That's a serious pity, as for those of us who don't use mMode, it's a waste of an excellent button.

Computer sync
Aug 12, 2004, 5:09 PM

I just ordered this phone from Amazon.com. I had a V600, which I found to have a lot of problems. I'm hoping this one will be better, but as there aren't many reviews out yet, but I figure it can't be worse then the V600. Anyway, the reason for my post is to find out if anyone knows about ways to sync between the E316 and my PC (Windows), and what connection options I have. Thanks, Erick

Re: VX8000?

Was he right when he said it would be for the same price if I had started a new contract then? I thought that there was a phone credit with a new contract.

I called Verizon about a question I had, and asked that exact question. The guy on the phone was trying to sell me on a new contract, but I said I was waiting for the 710. He said, go ahead and sign, and you'll still get the lower price on the v710 when it comes out. I highly doubted him, as it was the new every two program he was talking about. But maybe he was right. Anyone know?

Re: Coverage in western WA
Jul 16, 2004, 1:14 AM
in the AT&T forum

Not a bad idea on the demo phone. There's a Cingular store on my block, so I might give it a go. I like the idea of flat rate calling to Canada, but 6.9 cents/minute isn't too bad. I'll give primus a try. I've tried other LD 1-800 numbers, but the quality was always horrible. I assumed that they just don't work with cell phones... Thanks.

Coverage in western WA
Jul 15, 2004, 7:10 PM
in the AT&T forum

Hey, Does anyone here use Cingular in western Washington, especially in the Seattle area? Any comments on coverage? I'm with Verizon right now, as they have the best coverage from what I've seen. But I call Canada a lot, and $.20 per minute for LD to Canada is crazy. But I hike and go to the boonies a lot, so coverage is critical. Thanks
