N75 ??

Sorry to be dense, but I'm intending to upgrade to the 3125 soon. Since the N75 is a flip, and since it's being discussed versus the new PDA by HTC ... Is the N75 a smartphone, and who makes it?? TIA.

MRC = Monthly rate on line
Oct 2, 2006, 12:20 PM
in the AT&T forum

Rate on line? ... hmmmm. Every dollar that I send to Cingular is for a phone line that carries voice, data, text, etc. I also spend a few bucks on special Int'l calling plans, but seems to me that my entire monthly bill relates to "line revenue." Are upgrade metrics judged solely on the revenue from voice minutes? But a customer with a data plan uses his phone for many more hours per month. By virtue of those extra ...

Torching Bridges

Maybe Cingy has decided to test the "torch strategy." They'll burn bridges until it begins to hurt. Once they've determined the market's tolerance for pain, then they'll change names to AT&T and recapture users with "just enough" incentives, but without the Cingular-legacy and bad-will. Bad guy, good guy. Brilliant!

Re: Is old $99 unlimited calling plan worth anything?

WADR, if one's willing to buy unlocked phones - availability isn't an issue; If one has unlimited calling minutes, mobile-to-mobile is redundant; If one has unlimited calling minutes, nights/weekends is redundant; Push-to-talk might be an issue for Bandit & the Sheriff (but they still have the citizens' band); Seems to me that the only issue is the area code ... or I'd I think it's a VERY generous offer; you might try posting your note to Craig's list.

I didn't realize this ... you're saying that Walmart or Best Buy can do an Upgrade to my account so I can get a new phone through them? I thought they could only issue new 2-yr contracts for new service, i.e. a new phone number ... I thought upgrades were handled exclusively through the website or a Cingular store? What about the super cheap offers by online retailers ... aren't they for new service only?

Note: observation by a 5-yr Cingular customer) I know the CSR's don't want to believe this, but Cingular does NOT grant ANY significant discounts to their customers. For example, the same SE phone is advertised on Buy.com, today, at $180, LESS $100 (for the 2-yr activation rebate) LESS ANOTHER $ 80 (rebate from Buy.com).So, the NET-NET cost is ZERO for a new 2-yr customer. SO, a current customer pays a "bargain" 200 bucks for upgrade to a new phone, IF he's willing ...

CSR commented: Cingular MADE Rollover, and they can take it away if that is what needs to be done. Obviously failing any cognizance of the concept of a "marketing contract" with the consumer. They are not literally ripping these minutes from the customers that have them. They are simply limiting the customers adjustments to try and "outsmart" the system. Once a marketing message is fully ingrained, Cingular's customers make this judgement, not CSRs, not Cingular either. If you have a customer ...

Tex, I've monitored your observations for awhile, noting a business maturity that's sometimes lacking here. I'm not trying to change minds, just impart some external perspective. Perhaps I failed to emphasize my main points ... It is counterproductive to market "YOUR minutes, KEEP 'EM" and then 'play gotcha'. After all, IT IS ESSENTIALLY a LOYALTY program - any GOTCHA is the antithesis. (Note well: airlines have figured out that even "expiring" the credits is counterproductive.) The marketing message "promised me" ...

The REAL PROBLEM here ...
Oct 6, 2005, 7:02 PM
in the AT&T forum

(just one customer's opinion) . . . is that Cingular is more concerned about being cheated by their customers than about keeping their customers. It's patently ridiculous to market a terrific industry-leading feature like: "ROLLOVER - they're YOUR minutes, KEEP 'EM" and then rip them away like some ponzi-scheme. It is brain-dead marketing. The real answer is to offer high-rollover customers a rate-change only with a 2-yr contract extension. If a few deadbeat customers figure a way to work the system - ...

I've used an earlier Jabra (model 200) for over two years. Battery life is now corrected on the newer Jabra models - most feel they are the best. A new Jabra, the BT800, has caller ID, which is an important enhancement. However, not all BT phones will transmit the CID over the Bluetooth link, not sure about your new phone. Howerd's runs a forum dedicated to just Bluetooth accessories. Google for Howerd's Forums. Good luck.

in the AT&T forum

I think the question, "To insure, or not?" has only very individual answers. Just one opinion though, you paid a (lot) less for the replacement? A phone is just too easily lost or stolen. Seems to me that insurance on cellphones is a temporary need, probably useful only for 6 to 9 months. Since it must cover all losses ... theft & carelessness ... it would be extremely costly on the latest, most desireable models. Besides, I'm ready for ...

Remember what I wrote, they should be willing to sell any phone at "cost + $25." That just means selling their locked phone at cost plus commission. The Audi5600 is available on eBay, unlocked, for less than Cingular's price with a 2 year contract. You're deluded if you think Cingular is losing money on the higher-end phones. You're also forgetting the part about competition. Shareholders expect a return, true enough. But pricing your product above the competition LOSES CUSTOMERS. Guess ...

I've followed iMate since Audiovox sold their brand in the USA. Unsure where iMate markets, maybe in Europe, but their phones are manufactured by HTC. HTC's Typhoon model is known here as the Audiovox 5600, a model offered by Cingular. It's the physically smallest Smartphone, and it has excellent customer reviews - read them right in this forum. Next/Sprint vs. Cingular - NorCal Area

During the most recent 3 years, I have close friends with Nextel and Sprint in Northern California. During that same time I've been with AT&T or Cingular. I can't count the number of Sprint calls that were dropped during freeway travel. The Nextel calls have been consistently bad call quality, regardless of locations. Cingular is Seriously "at Risk"
Jul 31, 2005, 3:54 PM

One customer ... agrees with original poster. Cingular locks the phone to their own network, right? Therefore, they should sell existing customers any phone desired at cost + $25 (pick a reasonable number) plus a six-month extension. After all, the customer is still committed and it's still monthly revenue. The idea that a company's in business to make a buck is valid only to a certain point ... the point at which a competitor is willing to offer the same ...

"... calling lots of friends and familiy also on Cingular who are covered under free mobile to mobile ..." Well, just one customer's opinion, but the M2M assumption adds little to the exercise. I never knew what the F/F program was until reading this. The stereo profile for Bluetooth is called Advanced Audio Distribution Profile, or A2DP. If you look at the 815 specs, it supports only handsfree, headset and sync, but no stereo. Handsfree profile (HFP) is for use in the car. Headset profile (HSP) is for using a Jabra, etc. It has less functionality than HFP, mainly related to voice dialing, maybe caller ID. Sync is obviously related to data transfer. Stereo is a recent evolution in Bluetooth, and MP3 is a recent development in ...

Re: Bluetooth and getting music to play in stereo
Jul 25, 2005, 2:11 PM

OOPS! Your problem is that Bluetooth's stereo profile (called AADP, or A2DP) is a more recent development. Your phone's Bluetooth software was intended only for handsfree or headset profiles (monoaural). The phone's BT software (actually called a driver or stack) probably does not support the stereo profile. Unless Moto offers an upgrade to their Bluetooth driver (unlikely) you're out of luck.

I renewed on that promo just before it expired last year (Nov). It's 1000 anytime, no N/W and no M2M. I needed it because I was constantly going a little over. I now have a Rollover balance of 2000 ... which tends to hold me as a captive Cing-customer.
