It's more like buying property and trying to build on the neighbor's property because, well, the big pink barn you're building doesn't encroach on their view, right? So they should totally be okay with it. And they should also be okay with you building on their land in the first place, even though you don't own it and only own an adjacent property.

I have an entry level Android phone, lowest of the low. 600 MHz processor, 150 MB of internal memory available to the user, 320 x 480 pixels.
I've removed the bloatware, I store all apps on the SD card with link2sd/app2sd and I have it overclocked. It's about as worthwhile and fast as the HTC Thunderbolt, a decent phone.
And guess what, it was $200 bucks full retail!
And the manufacturers embrace that. Last I heard, Apple wasn't eager to have you ...
